Looking for a laptop purely to use while travelling just to watch shows and movies.
Not necessarily streaming but mostly using media players.

Look where?
Into space?
Go to office works, just came from there and there was a lot of good laptop with reduced to clear. Fairly good discount.
An iPad really for just consuming media.
If op is not streaming and using a media player, a tablet with large and expandable storage would be better than an ipad.
Get a tablet as it will be easier for you to use.

imo, you want cheap, get a Chromebook. Generally the best value for laptops, especially on sale. You would easily get something much better than on Windows in that price range.
Really cheap chromebook screens are crime against eyesight, but a 1080p one you should be set. Asus CX1 is good, HP ones are good as well imo.
Alternatively, you can get a refurb old laptop for a few hundred.
Or just get an iPad.
edit: MX Player for Chromebook, will play anything.
just sort low to high on all the retail sites and pick one that doesn't have garbage specs and looks nice to you?
Personally I'd go refurbished.
A 2017+ Lenovo T or X series, or Dell XPS would be in that price range, super reliable, and generally a good value.
In my experience selling both new and used laptops for many years, a decent used one is miles more reliable than a cheap new one.
Chromebook would also likely be good, but does mean you're limited in alternative uses for the device at a later date.
Laptops are uncomfortable for sitting on sofa/bed. Tablet much better.
A really good portable computer was the old 12" Macbooks from 2015-2018, which would be a few hundred bucks 2nd hand. Just need to find one without keyboard issues, and a newish battery.
They are awesome to travel with. Less than 1kg with a great screen. They failed because they were too overpriced and underpowered, and the keyboards were problematic, but I travelled with one for nearly a year and it held up well. I was pretty disappointed when the new Macbook Airs weren't a revival of the design.
Lenovo duet 5 is pretty good when on sale, has an Oled screen
I purchased a dell latitude for $100 off fb marketplace for $100 couple years ago, has a big screen. Loaded ChromeOS-Flex/FlydeOS on it, works great. Even tried Flex on a super old laptop from 2008 and runs smooth as butter. Highly recommend.
Have you actually looked?
