The prices are really dropping for these UST projectors

    • +7

sooner or later since full sized 100 inch tvs are falling price faster than we thought

  • Didn’t this used to come with a free screen?

    • +1

      Not for 2K

      • +4

        This is 4K though

        • +68

Used to be 4K but now it's only 2K.

          • +4

            @dins: lol

          • +14

@dins: Shouldn’t it be 6K due to inflation?

          • +4

            @dins: I remember when 2K was 4K. Now 4K is 2K. I guess that's OK.

    • +3

      different models.

the 'L' models are fixed sized and come with screen.

the 'P' models can change the size, therefore don't come with a screen.

p.s. does anyone wanna buy my 100inch Hisense ARL screen 😅

      • Are you selling one?

        • whats arl

          • +2

@capslock janitor: Suppose to be ALR, Ambient light rejecting screen.

Basically it makes for a better picture where ambient light exists by reflecting light from the projector towards the viewer and ambient light away, providinf better contrast where an ordinary projector or screen would be washed out with ill defined blacks.

  • Any reviews on this? Isn't like a 120" ambient rejecting screen like another $1000~?

    • +4

Couple sources online you should be able to get for maybe ~$700.

That's still a rad 120" image got well under ,$3k

      • +3

can you provide a link ? all I see is ones around $1200-1500 ? thank you.

    • +6

just go cheap , shoot at wall , with curtains shut

      • +3

Looks like crap even for a HD projector - unless you have painted it with special paint which is fairly expensive last I checked.

        • +11

I had a W1070+ in my old house shooting onto a wall that I painted with a matte finish white, looked great.

          • +3

@haydio: Yeah I had mine on a matte white paint too and it was very good. I'd love to see it on one of those fancy screens though.

          • @haydio: As a comparative measure no, it didnt.

          • +1

@haydio: I used to use epson rear projector , and now change to the samsung UST
the UST needs a projector screen, else it will feel very uneven on the same wall.

            • +1

@uccoffee: I think I'm not getting your terminology. Did you use to have an Epson long throw projector direct to wall and the picture was good? And now you are seeing issues with the same wall due to the ultra short throw projection angles etc?

          • @haydio: model "W1070+ is not UST tho yurrr

        • perhaps sand your wall flat and paint it.. white or off-white/ /grey?

which special paint you talking called ??

      • +2

Yeah I don't have one of these laser UST models, but screenless can be a great option for projecters.

Don't get me wrong, a proper screen is definitely slightly better image quality (you gain some brightness, etc).

But having a blank wall can be a much better look for your living room, when it's off, than a massive screen is.

Screenless may also be a better option if you are renting and don't want to drill holes to install a screen (or big TV).

      • +2

Blitz wolf vp6 on a high shelf, class D amp and a pair of Edifiers wall mounted high up in the corners and the wall some light eucalyptus green grey colour that was there when I moved in.

Cheap fun, awesome bedroom movie setup.

Looks clean when off as well.

    • +3

Im so tempted. I have a big project thats only HD - been waiting for the lasers to come down or big tvs to come down…..

Recently saw an 85 for 4K and now this…..sooo close

      • +1

some reviews say 2100 ANSI Lumens is not bright enough to see during daylight. Better choose TV if you really want to watch it at all time

        • +1

          Or get a UST Screen.

        • +1

Yeah im good eitgher way, home theatre is fine for blocking out light

        • how much is bright enough for daylight? 2500 ?

          • +2

@capslock janitor: Nobody can properly answer that for you because it's very subjective, and depends on what you mean by daylight which could be filtered or it could be full sun from an adjacent wall of glass. You do need a UST screen for bright daylight. Everyone will have a different acceptance threshold so best to go to a store and have a look at a 2100/2200 Lumen model, take into account how much artificial ambient light it's in and translate that to your conditions at home to estimate if it will be acceptable to you. Obviously more lumens are better but in filtered daylight with some 'close to the screen' light control (drawn curtain for example) 2100 lumens could be enough, again depending on your situation and what you consider acceptable. You could also look at some youtube videos which show others using them in daylight, there a a few videos at https://darkenergyscreens.com.au but with videos you may not know exactly what the lumens are.

I want, missus says no. There's some battles you just don't start.

For this price no better projector out there. Will need be much better with an ambient screen to protect onto though.

    • +33

      Time to upgrade your missus.

    • -1

Just buy it and have Love island on it when she sees it for the first time. She’ll soon come around

      • +2

If only she were into easy rubbish tv like that, I'd have a projector for every wall.

      • +1

Love Island? Lol! Only six pack wannabe gonna watch it, the majority of ladies will hate it with a passion, unless they're barbie sizes, and when she's at that level she will smirk at those chicks.

    • +3

It's better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission

(** I am not responsible for any negative outcomes that may happen.**)

    • That's right. You launch a surprise attack…. buy now, deal with the fall out later.

    • +3

These steps always work for me:

      1) buy it anyway, the missus will find out eventually when the product arrives.

      2) Show how the product works then introduce an option to return the product (check the return policy).

      3) if she is not convinced then return the product

It is a win/win experience for me. I meet my buying impulse and keep the missus happy. :D

      • Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. YMMV tho

      • 1) Buy it and wrap it as a present
        2) Go to a nice dinner and give the present
        3) Make some excuse why do you think it's a great present
        4) Let her unwrap and enjoy it

    • +2

I could never, ever imagine even thinking about agreeing to having to get 'missus approval' on my tech and purchasing decisions.

      Perhaps that's why I'm single, I guess.

Goes in the opposite direction too though. I wouldn't care what my potential missus buys, either.

      • Nothing wrong with being single mate, I'm loving the freedom!!

      • +4

If you're in a proper committed relationship, like a marriage, you have to make decisions about finances, whether that's keep your money separate, having a joint account, or both (joint account and 2 pocket money accounts).

Only the two of you can decide, but most people will want to split rent/mortgage, food, kid expenses, furniture, etc.

        • I didn't say I didn't understand. I said I couldn't imagine doing it myself (and probably never will, happily).

      • +1

if she using her own splurge money then whateverr

      • It is very nice when you get out of a committee and two houses if parliament for every decision situation and become a benevolent dictator in your own life.

  • +1

for the lamp, how many hours can it last? can it replace?

    • +8

      25,000 hrs, yay laser projectors.

      • +1

        25000 / 2.5hrs / 365 days =
        ~ 27 years

based on personal daily expected usage

        • Careful, once we got a projector, watching at 100 inches was just so great that we ended up using it closer to 7 hours a day (kids in arvo, parents at night).

So that'd be closer to 10 years for us.

  • +1

2K for a laser projector! damn!

  • +2

I prefer LCD over DLP any day…, but this price is great !

    • whats dlp

      • +1

        Digital Light Processing.

The technology nearly all cinemas use, and what this model uses.

Laser projectors can be DLP or LCD.

    • Yep and it seems they don't want people noticing it uses DLP. No mention of it on product page. If you're going to get a fancy laser projector, don't hold it back with DLP.

      • I assume those that are susceptible to rainbow effect will also see it on DLP laser set like this?

  • I was watching a review for these as I am trying to upgrade my portable Xgimi 1080p Halo+ to a 4k option. It didn't quite fit my use case as the screen needs to fitted making it not very portable. Plus some reviewers said that a screen is a must to avoid bumpy / wavy image.

    • Where did you find the review?

    • +2

I have optoma P2 straight to the wall. When cust rain closed image is quite good. No bumps or wavy picture. Though making the picture straight when you set up takes time as slightest of tilt impact the picture big time

  • +4

What’s the game mode latency like on this model?

  • +3

Great brand with affordable price tag, I love my Hisense TVs. Will give this Laser one a try. Thanks for sharing.

  • +11

    No 3D I presume. Boo!

    • +7

Don’t know why you got the neg. I upvoted you as I’m on the same boat :)

      • +64

I can't believe both fans of 3D TVs are on Ozbargain!

        • The worst fad in cinema history.

I'm surprised to see it even mentioned in 2023.

        • +3

As an owner of 7 3D Blu-rays and no way to watch them, this comment stings too much.

          • +2

@ChiefAJ: I've still got an old Sony W900a 55 with the Active 3d- no 3D content, but great Television.

            • +2

@Millikano: I'm sure it would do my copy of Hotel Transylvania 3D justice!

  • +1

    This or Xiaomi 4K ?

    • +3

      I've had a Xiaomi 4k since late 2020

I would say this as tuner built in and Xiaomi doesn't have Android TV, so you'll need a media player

      • +1

Thanks! Picture/video quality wise though? They seem very similar in specs at a glance.

      • +4

What!? Bro nobody cares about tuner and smart TV features, you can add those for 50 bucks.

(First is frequently like $35 and way better than any built-in smart TV anyway).

We want to know about the picture quality.

        • how are people adding a tuner these days? I have a Vodafone TV but they don't make them anymore, and the Foxtel/Binge versions is terrible

          • @Jackson:

how are people adding a tuner these days

Lots of people on OzBargain aren't, the ability to read and use the internet cuts out most of the free-to-air TV audience these days, but you can buy a TV tuner with antenna in, HDMI out, and a remote for $30 or so.

            • @GandalfTheCheap: Agree that most don't need it, but that's not better than a built in tuner, it's no where near as integrated and all the interfaces I have seen on those look like they are from 1997 and are slow and buggy.

        • I don't own both so I can compare.
There was no other 4k laser UST projector back in late 2020 for $2400 so I bought the Xiaomi online

        • add those for 50 bucks.
          (First is frequently like $35

can u elaborate what products u referring? @GandalfTheCheap

          • +3

@capslock janitor: Google tv.. or fire stick 4k

          • +1

@capslock janitor: Sorry, I typed "FireTV", not "First", meaning the Amazon FireTV 4k, but autocorrect messed it up.

It's better than most (all?) Smart TVs and often on sale cheap. Mine was $35 delivered, black friday before last, I think.

            OzBargain comment locking strikes again.

    • I was in the same boat. I ended up with Hisense because of their warranties, UI, seller (JB vs Kogan) and price. Xiaomi was $500 extra when I purchased it.
