  • Seems to be the same price everywhere, TGG, BingLee,….

    • Yep looks like the deal is duplicated in many places.

  • Fwiw, LG CS 55" OLED was only $1435 last week.

So oled is better than qled?

      • +1

Yes, in most cases it is, except in a very bright room.

      • -5

Yes OLED is better than LCD, duh.

      • +2

I had a top shelf sony oled and sold it. Ridiculously dim. Useful for a few hours at night, but god forbid you try to watch something in daytime on the weekend. QLED for me.

  • -2

    CES soon so HODL

    • when ?

and is that so we can buy older model cheaper ?

    • You buy a better TV if you HODL 2-3 years

      • +1

The constant cycle of waiting… there's always something better upcoming; the question is whether the offer currently is a good deal generally and more specifically a good deal for you over your current hardware.

The whole hodl argument relates to the overpriced pandemic/crypto/etc. market conditions not whether something better is coming out in the next few years because of course it is…

Whether something like CES within weeks might impact current pricings is a valid argument unless the current offering is at the bottom of prices of all time.

      • +1

How good of a TV can I buy if I hodl forever? I have diamond hands.

    • With the delay in new TVs getting to Australia (I got impatient waiting for the X95K in 65 inch flavour so got the X90K) I dunno if hodl is good advice tbh.

  • +1

So there are normal LedLCD, Qled, Oled, miniLed, FALD, 120hz, anything else i don’t know. It’s quiet hard to choose a TV nowadays without doing some research.

    • +1

The picture quality of TVs has been excellent for years now. Most of it is marketing nonsense to get you to buy a new one and watch it depreciate rapidly. I can’t imagine paying $2500 for a 55” when you can get a 1 year old no frills model off FB Market Place for $250. Next to the 4-5 year old ones I have all with Apple TV, no difference except for fancy Dolby Vision logos.

      • +7

1 year old 4k tv for $250? Doubt.
Next will be “but who needs 4k tv in 2023?”, am I right?

        • +1

$250 is what I paid in the market place. Either way, $550 for the superseded model - they’re dirt cheap and have excellent picture quality. It’s completely stagnated and they’re trying hard to convince people to spend unnecessary amounts on rapidly depreciating TVs.

The only thing that matters is the UI and they’re all hot garbage, or quickly become hot garbage within a short time as they stop getting updates, or get updates with ads and spyware (looking at you LG).

          • +1

@orangecarpet-22: When my place was broken into, they stole my TV, cash and jewellery. 250 is suspicious.

          • +1

@orangecarpet-22: Yeah, you may have got lucky, or just a run of the mill budget one for $250, in which case you gut ripped off as something like that is $500 new with, warranty.

No one in their right mind sells a mid to high end TV that cheap.

            • @scuderiarmani: I said "no frills", so yes a $550 one or so for $250 a year later. I thought that was a reasonable price to pay as >50% depreciation in the first year is insane, and makes sense for someone else to incur that instead of me.

My point still stands, the "high end" is largely to extract more money from you and will depreciate at the same rate. The curve of innovation in TV has flattened, much like combustion engine cars.

              • @orangecarpet-22: You'd still be better off buying new with protection as opposed to having next to none dealing with a private seller.

                Difference isn't worth it.

      • +1

I have to agree. Ive been looking for TVs lately and anything for $500 is good. Not the best, but good and better than plasma or CRT!

    • OLED is best but it's not bright. All else are much brighter but lack the contrast quality.
Mini-LED>'Quantum'LED>LED(traditional). FALD is a control strategy not the LEDs, 'Full-Array'>'edge-lit'.
'Quantum'-OLED is the latest best thing and should see lots of in coming years. MicroLED is a possible future but extremely limited and expensive for now.

    • -6

Plasma is/was better than them all.

      • Stop living in the past. It's not now. Spoken from someone who had 3 good Panasonic models.

    • There is really only 2 main panel types in production, OLED and LCD (TFT). Everything else is a twist on those two basic panel types, and some of those "twists" are just snake oil.

"Quantum dot" panels are mostly a gimmick at the moment - it makes your colors slightly better, nothing revolutionary.

      • -2

It's not a gimmick, and it's not "slightly". The "anti anything but OLED" froth on forums, clearly from people that have never owned a decent version of both products, is insane.

        • +4

I’ve owned both, OLED blows any LCD/QLED out of the water. There is no comparison.

The dullness argument is rubbish. Once you turn off any Eco mode in an OLED, they are very bright.

I have an LG C1 in a room with lots of windows and it’s fine during the day.

You’re making out like it’s impossible to even see an OLED screen in anything but complete darkness, which is garbage.

Have fun with your QLED (presumably with the “Dynamic/Vivid” picture mode permanently on).

        • I didn't say it was a complete gimmick, i said "mostly" a gimmick. Most people don't need the (subjectively) slightly better colors qdots give anywhere near as much as proper blacks. I also don't like OLEDs particularly due to burn-in and potential longevity problems, so i'm not part of the froth you mention.

I'll take a microled or electro-emissive qdot display @ > 100Hz and be content (hopefully).

          • @ssfps: OLED burn-in risks have been mitigated to the point where it’s almost a non-issue.

I recommend someone buy an LG B7 back in the day (unwise in retrospect). They don’t have any burn in with regular TV and movie watching use.

You have to be gaming or watching a lot of the same content on earlier models for it to happen and newer models mitigate the vast majority of the risk.

OLED Panel life is well beyond the expected life of a TV, so I’m not sure what the concern is.

Everything considered, an OLED panel is going to provide amazing black levels and picture for very little ownership proposition risk.

  • This tv is not very bright, although it has both nano cell and QDOT in it, the screen isn't bright at all and it looks not much better than the BU8000.

And that refresh rate of 200hz, well its just not noticeable on a 55inch. I would get the OLED above any day

    • -1

Everything about this is wrong. 200hz is extremely noticeable if you've got something that powers it, and OLED's dimmer than this TV.

      • Not true, watched many sports channels on this and I can tell you with a certainty it make no much differences, also had this next to a bu8000 with the same 4k contents on it and bu8000 kills it with much better colours. Strange but its true.

        • +1

Sports channels are not broadcasting at 200hz. Again, if you have something that can power more than common broadcast frame rates (ie, gaming pc) it will be extremely noticeable.

The fact you don't know this absolute basic of basics about TV's leads me to believe you probably wouldn't have a clue how each one was setup with regards to color and brightness settings, etc.

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: I believe my eyes rather than all these tech specs, and I believe this is not a good tv compared to bu8000 when looking at side by side. If you did you would come to the same conclusion.

  • This or Hisense or TCL mini LED? Like the extra warranty on those and the fact that mini led. Similar price.

Not needing to spend more for OLED.

    • Any thoughts?
