Are There Any Places You Can Charge Your Phone in Sydney City CBD?

Was just in the Sydney cbd area lately and one thing I found that I couldn't figure out is if there are any areas you can charge your phone at in the Sydney city area basically around the Central town hall or darling harbour areas.

But really any place in the city of Sydney

Is there some sort of shop or place that is designated so you can charge your phone

I'm curious about this now

    Try Apple Store …

    • Wait does type c apple charge Android haha lol I'm on Android

      • iPad does have usb type c so they should have type c cables in store. However, the staff at the store will probably prohibit you from coming into the store as you have Android. :D

        • haha fair call

any one tried charging their android type c device at an apple store

          • @AlienC: You can perfectly fine. At most pretend you’re considering an iPhone upgrade and thinking about it.

A library? Powerbanks are handy if you don't have one.

Only reason I didn't want to bring a power bank was because I didn't bring a bag and it would have gotten pretty badly knocked around in my pockets but yeah power bank is a good idea if prepared and bringing a bag.

But I was trying to travel light.

    Power bank….

Trying to see what other options there are in the city if you forget to bring a power bank or don't have one available.

  • macxcas/?

    • Do they have outlets you can "use"?

      Is that what you mean

      • i believe they should, sometimes they got ppl w charging a laptop sitting in a specific corner

        havent done it myself

        can ask emm

Oh you are right I think and this comment reminded me that Starbucks is still a thing or at least that culture of bringing your laptop to work on while charging at a coffee place or Cafe so that might be an option.. I guess like others have said maybe a library is a good idea they should have some way for laptop users to plug in which means also phone charging capabilities now the next question is to find a rugged durable fast charger for type c Android devices because it will be stored on my person's mostly in my cargo pants so it needs some good durability.

Thanks you have really helped me so much.

      • Some maccas have qi charters in the tables

  • In Melbourne there are a few phone charging lockers you can use in the shopping centres. Well, at least there were pre covid. Surely Sydney would have some too?

    • This is what I'm looking for or something very similar to this.. Honestly I'm trying to figure out also if the new trains that advertised the usb ports are a thing now or not because then I can ride the city circle trains while charging my phone as another option.

I vaguely remember one convenience store near town hall on George Street maybe having a similar feature like this but I can't remember also this would have been over a year ago now so might not still be around so asking in case anyone knows.

      • No, never seen it on any train yet. But the yellow B1 busses that go to the northern beaches from wynyard do have them on every seat and you can just take a ride a couple of stops then come back!
Maccas on the northern beaches - some of them have plugs on the tables you can plug a cable in and charge your phone (but never seen it in the city) but you could take a plug and ask if its OK to plug into the wall near a table etc (I've often seen the delivery riders do it while waiting to collect orders)
Wynyard Train/bus station (inside near coles/escalators) have vending machines that sell powerbanks and I've also seen them in lots of other places all over the city if you ever need one. But honestly they are pretty small and do fit in a pocket - you don't need to take a bag!

        • Thanks wow this is the best answer yet ah so it is just northern beaches that has this and not the city as I thought.

          Really appreciate it thanks!

    something like
    https://www.ezycharge.com.au/locations/

CBF downloading app to see how many around cause never seem to need one

    • cheers thanks will give this a look

  • "or darling harbour areas."

I think there are fitness bicycles at darling harbour inside the shopping/food area. You could plug your phone in a pedal to charge it.
Not sure if it's still there.

    • Oh that is cool if they are still around that might be my best choice atm for the next time I am low on battery in the city thanks

      • Sorry I made a error in the comment.

"a pedal to charge it." should be "and pedal to charge it."

        • All good it's very understandable now

  • Libraries, QVB, some food courts have outlets as well as USB outlets, and hotel lobbies.

A quick google shows a Reddit post suggesting the MLC tower and friendly JB Hi-Fi stores that let you unplug your phones and let you charge.

    • How long are you going to plug your phone in at JB HiFi?!

Just go to a food court, there’s always outlets there.

    • Former JB employee here. Please don't.

  • In Perth we have solar seats.

even future proofed for the Saygus V Squared

The goods line walk has benches with outlets, outside the UTS building. I've seen people plug in their devices there when walking past.

The library in Darling square has outlets too, built into some of the reading benches

  • Byo powerbank?! Or byo charger with u and plug into a power point in a shopping centre? How crap is your phone battery if it cant last a day? Just make sure ur phone is fully charged before u leave home. All about planning!

    • Yes so very true to the victor goes the spoils so very true thank you

Down in Westfield's Sydney, next to the Escalators near Nike, is a 'Vending Style' machine where you can Rent a portable Charger for $2/30mins, and is capped at $8.

A $25 refundable bond is required though.
In saying that, ride up the Escalators to JBHiFi or walk up Pitt St to Officeworks, and you could buy a Portable Charger pretty cheap.

Plus, there are a few PowerPod vending machines around.

  • If you happen to be near, or end up in, a hospital emergency department most have charging bays for phones.

  • Regular occurrence? How long are you there for that you need to charge your phone. Best bet power bank or maybe new phone if your battery no longer lasts.

  • There are outlets along the Goods Line near Market City. I've seen homeless using them to charge their phones.

  • You can find powerpoints at many buildings, particularly shopping areas.

Also food courts tend to have USB ports. Just make sure to carry the cable and plug with you.
