Damn, that looks like a train.

    • 4070 Ti MSRP most likely around A$1500 mark:

      https://wccftech.com/nvidia-settles-on-799-msrp-for-the-gefo…

its inline with 4090 at $2900-$3000 at twice the FPS.

"Keep in mind, however, that Jensen wields the black leather jacket and all of us must submit to its power. So he could very well snap his fingers and change the MSRP at the very last moment should he want to. This is also why I am still tagging this post as a rumor - because until the marketing and documentation gets made for the launch, details like this can still change."

      • +1

Except I dont give a shite about - "Jensen wields the black leather jacket and all of us must submit to its power"

        • +1

I thought you need more sleep tonight, just don't dream of leather jacket tho…

      • +2

I like how the old 2080ti/3080 users are now 4070ti users. It's a step down every gen! I really like how all the "lets drive gpu prices up to $1500" snobs are now mid range card users. All the enthusiast/prestige bs is now a $3000 habit

        • +1

The best strategy is to buy a used 3xxx or new/used 6xxx cards. They have plenty of muscles to handle all games even at 4K and there are plenty of such used cards everywhere. If this happens, new cards prices should come down.

Instead, now there are 2000$ 80 series cards. And even AMD with thier Amputed Cards (no proper RT/buggy drivers/huge hotspot temps) are selling north of 1500$ - bascially the same card that most reviewers recommended not to buy. And worst part, people upvoting such deals and defending thier prices in the other threads. Crazy world.

I have barely upvoted these newer AMD/NVIDIA threads since a long time.

        • ive never heard of anyone except manufacturers thinking "lets drive gpu prices up to $1500"

  • +3

    that plastic covering the fan…

    • +1

Its a static pressure fan, it wont move much air around. More like force the air into the fins.If you keep your hands next to a GPU fan, you barely feel the air compared to case fans. Considering the low airflow, that opening is plenty enough for the air to go through. Its definitely waay better than what case fans must work against when covered with case dust filters.

  • +3

Decent price, but that is one awful looking card and plastic is covering a third of one of the fan shrouds.

Even if the obstruction looked good (it doesn't) why would you reduce cooling performance to make the side of the card no one ever sees look better?

    • +1

not no one would see it, many cases have horizontal mounts, but it doesnt look good

      • My 4090 technically fits in my mid tower case (Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X), although is barely 1mm from the glass and thermal throttles :(

        • +1

Just power limit to 300w, only loses 2-3% performance.

      • Generally people only horizontally mount GPUs to show off RGB. If it's just a budget card with no fancy RGB, the normal mounting and showing the backplate looks better imo.

        • There’s also sandwich cases

    • +2
    • +2

Good for those who want to waterblock it.

  • +13

Do these companies purposefully make their graphics cards look as bad as possible? Just make it black and leave it at that …

  • +7

    wow what an absolute bargain

  • Almost thought it was the Halo Infinite addition

  • +1

What I find amusing is there is no shot of the edge of it. Is noone just mounting in the usual fashion any longer!?

    • +1

You're right. Best you can get are oblique shots of the top here where it appears to have two spirit levels shoehorned into the top for some reason????

      edit:
It's a rebadged version of this abomination

      • +1

Lol that's what I thought. Spirit levels haha

  • +1

    More like cyberjank

  • Is it just me or is no one selling GTx 1660oc anymore.

  • +3

It's a rebadged version of this card.

Here's a neat video if you want a closer view of this abomination. It has two parallel built in spirit levels (in case one fails I guess?), so you can rest assured that when the 2.1KG GPU reaches the end of its life it can still be useful to level paintings!

    • +3

Bubble levels huh, sounds like a work expense to me….

  • +8

I would love to know the jobs of folks ordering these. I recall when $450 was THE premium card.

    • +5

exactly, nvidia are just taking the piss at this point,

      • -2

I mean these aren't cheap to make. The processors are totally huge.

I'm sure it's marked up though

        • Nvidia tends to have a gross profit margin of around 60%, for flagship cards like this it'd be more like 75-80%. However the margins for AIBs are much smaller.

      • Don’t buy it then.

    • +1

They're just full time workers who enjoy gaming mate. No big surprises!

  • +2

    By god, it’s ugly!

  • +6

no top of the line card should be this expensive,

      • +1

Fueling innovation by unleashing the voltage limits?

There's so many reviewers saying "yes it's the fastest, but performance per dollar doesn't add up"

        • -5

Don’t buy the card then. Buy AMD… or Intel… or previous gen…

      • This price fuels innovation.

You realize basically all the gains of this gen are from TSMC node shrink + clocking the card too high (hence huge power usage + coolers)?

Do you also realize that nobody will compete regardless of the price, because of vendor lock-in? (Software)

Did you consider that the period of the greatest leaps forward in technology were in a period where a mid range card cost $200-$300?

        • -4

          Don’t buy the card then.

          • @The Wololo Wombat:

            hurr durr

            Thanks for the ping.

I got another laugh at you mentioning "capitalism" above, as if that's some kind of guiding philosophy, which gave me a good laugh because most of our electronics come from ostensibly non-capitalistic "communist" countries - don't look up the special economic zones in china nor our tariffs, tax system, ACL, etc etc.

            > don't buy the card then

      • China are communist and develop hypersonic weapons. I think you concept of never having a high performance card to begin with is very naïve.

Just look at all the roads they're building! Jeremy Clarkson has a doco on it, Melbourne doesn't even have an eastern ring road

        • -1

If you really believe we’d have high performance GPU available for consumers without capitalism…

Lol. China extracts wealth from citizens to fund large government military projects - the average Chinese citizen can’t afford a GPU because of their economic system… nor would the CCP fund consumer level GPUs (in fact they’d be more likely to ban them, as the ban/limit gaming in general). Imagine any government putting R&D into entertainment! Just wait four years mate… you only feel entitled to progress because capitalism has conditioned you to feel that way.

          • +1

@The Wololo Wombat: lol Chinas middle class afforded to buy up the entirety of Hawthorn to Glen Waverley. Instead of listening to Reagan news try walking outside into the real world. Also public infrastructure isn't military. Be sure to watch Jeremy Clarksons doco with the roads! The one you saw on Reagan news had the potholes photoshopped in.

            • @Jimmy77: Have you been to China? The (small) Chinese middle class is the result of capitalist reforms in the 90s. Most of them own and profit from some form of capital.

Also, I’m not sure why you keep mentioning roads… Irma. It not hard to imagine the CCP maintaining great roads (at least in some key areas) it is impossible to imagine the CCP putting R&D into consumer grade gaming cards.

  • +4

That is 2899 worth of McDonald's Soft Serve. Too expensive.

    • +1

If you put that much into VAS, you could afford to have a soft serve every day in perpetuity, even with 5% inflation. If you live for another 60 years, that's ~22,000 soft serves (plus the initial inflation indexed investment - $54k after 60 years), or one GPU lol.

    • unlike mcdonalds soft serve it'll work consistently

    • If you want to loose weight then I think the 4090 is better choice because you won't be able to afford food afterwards! :)

  • Blech! Ew! Geez!

    … I'll take a crab juice

  • +2

Just keep in mind if you buy a PNY card, they are DISGUSTING when it comes to warranty. If you so much as fart in your cards general direction, they will deny you waranty due to organic material in the heat sink… google it before you buy a PNY card.
Still not a comparitively bad price for one UGLY card. At least it will come with 3Y warranty, compared to the $2799 gainward card that was a grey import.

    • Gainward was a grey?

      • +1

Gainward don't officially sell to Australia. 99% sure Gainwards are greys. So i'd say warranty will go back to seller you purchase from, and then they will need to work internationally with Gainward for warranty. I'm guessing the reseller won't want to pony up a new card for you out of their pocket, so you will most likely have international trip for your card to EU and back for warranty if any issues arise.

That's a big turnoff for me, it could be… a month? maybe more? That's if the reseller is happy to do that for you without a fight… for me that chance is just not worth it on such a big ticket item, else i would have purchased one of the $2799 cards!

    • Yeah I bought a PNY second hand. Supposedly only had one year used on the warranty, but I checked the T&Cs. Warranty's are non-transferrable with PNY. Hopefully nothing goes wrong with it.

      • Look, you will get warranty on the card, but if you are a person who likes to tinker, you can't remove the heat sink, it'll break the warranty void sticker on the screws and they will enforce that you have voided the warranty. Also if there's any marks on the cards, they'll use it against you.

Over the 3 year warranty life of the card, if you use it regularly, you will probably want to repaste it after maybe a year? Maybe 2? You can't do that with PNY cards, it'll void the warranty. If you just stick it in your machine and that's it, that's fine. I always get invoices without specific names if i can, that way if i sell a card i can give the receipt to the new owner to claim any warranty… can't always get it that way though, depending on the store.

  • Rog and aorus, palit are the best looking 4090 cards

  • +1

Damn that's one ugly card. Lucky the price didn't temp me… I'd hate to have to live with this gimp had it been cheaper

  • It would make so much sense to make 40xx series 4x slots instead of 3x.
And 50xx series could take 5x slots next year.
    [it was sarcasm]

  • Came to read the boomer gpu comments… wasn’t disappointed! /s

    • Rod the boomer!

    • +2

It's funny, those who are most critical can often be those who can easily afford it (and also don't mind waiting a few more years/grey hairs for a few hundred $ drop to play games).

I can't afford it. And don't want to not play for years. Have been buying AMD for $/frame since day dot.

These greedy companies have successfully moved the needle, and will win against me in a staring competition.

Bought the PNY 4080 on the last sub-$2k "deal" after seeing the AMD 79xx ClusterF release and haven't looked back.

Quiet, cool, no coil whine, no VR issues, no 12vhpwr issues (plugged it in obsessively with minimal side bends). It's amazing how good PNY cards really are - these guys make enterprise & professional cards, and it shows. Get the best card you can go into debt for (not a recommendation) and never look back.

  • +1

Not too far away, at $2250 it matches the 7900XTX for price to performance, keep HODLing

  • -1

Some generations don't know when they are being done in the butt.

  • So I Just ordered myself a Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 ($2184 via Samsung Gov store), any recommendation for a GPU to power it? Think I'll need to upgrade from my 1070ti for some decent gaming on it, don't really want to pay 3k for a GPU tho! mostly playing WoW, Rocket League and some other basic/indie games.

    • You'll struggle to find friends around here then (lol). If you've spent that on a monitor though truthfully something like this would be a fair match imo!

      Otherwise just grab a 6900xt/6950xt I'd say.

    • +1

Had a 3080 before with the Neo, now 4090. Mostly Dota 2 (hitting 240fps finally)

      • -2

Most people who have 3080 or faster only play comp games lol. Half of them are clueless tradies who buy the "big & fast model" (and the other half are obsessed asperger introvert). High end gpu's cost a lot due to demand, not because they're actually worth that much. I can 1440p ultra 120fps today for $349 with the 6600xt. I think I get like 400fps on dota 2 (you might need a cpu upg).

  • In stock again btw as is the other more modest option for the same price.
