Dick Smith Sydney - Kensington iPhone, iPad & iPod Car Charger - $12.95 (Elsewhere $29.95)

170

Hi guys,

My first post with a good deal.

This is a great car charger and sells for around $29.95 at other places such as the Apple Store.

It's a great little charger to have in the car or when travelling!

  • That doesn't look like a 2.1A charger for iPad?

But I can get the same thing: charger for $2
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-car-cigarette-powered-1000…
    and
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-charging-cable-for-ipa…
    cable for $2.70
So the same thing for less than $5, delivered to my house!
Edit: actually you can get a cable for $1.60
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-cable-for-iphone-4-whi…
So I beat my first price $3.70 !

Ever tried that in the car mate? I bought I few things from deal extreme and I still do, but I wouldnt use the chargers they have for cars. Frys the iphne

      • Yep, I've got two of em, with an Iphone 4s and they're fine.
Older iPhones use 0.5A, and the 4s needs 1A. Sounds like you bought a charger too powerful for your phone. Trying to charge a 4S on an old .5A car charger won't work either (first charger I bought - ok for Ipod but no good for 4s phone)

      • Frys the iphne

I've bought 3 or four and they all work fine.

How many phones have you had fried ???

    • cheap charger and cable $3.70, short-circuited ipad $500, wife/girlfriend telling you "I told you so"…priceless

      • +1

so you've had your ipad short-circuited? have you actually tried them???

these circuits are so simple, you could easily make your own, but when you can buy them for $2, why would you bother…

    • I understand people feel that these things are safe (Kingston branded ones should be okay).

However, be careful with cheap ones. My friend used one of those cheap eBay ones for about a day (on his HTC phone - using it as a GPS). The next day, he tried again and the phone wouldn't turn on anymore. It was a costly experience for him. Also, I tried cheap FM transmitters and there were 2 where the fuse inside keeps blowing up (which means the circuit was poorly done and it relied on the fuse to safeguard your device).

You need these devices to properly convert 12V to 5V, preferably with smooth constant 5V.

Good price for Kensington brand. Ebay sells at about $24.50 or more
OR you can get the cheaper alternative

    superforever,

yes, it's a 2.1 amp charger for the iPad.

Here's the link to the Kensington website:

It's a good price for a brand name car charger with 2 years warranty.

  • I bought mine a few weeks ago from ebay for $6
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251088091679?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

    working well.
so i dont think this is a good deal

  • I use an eBay charger. Works fine.

As much as I love DealExtreme and eBay chargers like the next guy, I'm a big fan of Kensington, Targus, Belkin and the like. Warranty support is phenomenal, I was travelling in the USA with some Australian purchased kit that failed, and had a replacement overnighted to me. Likewise for travel chargers that have failed here in Aus.

I don't often pay full retail and wait for things like this to come on sale as they have here, and although you pay a little more than DealExtreme/eBay etc, but for me, the peace of mind and quick turnaround time for support is worth it!

    • Hardly any of the cheapies have enough current for a tablet. Some are good for phones though.

  • I couldn't agree more with you HowardWolowitz!

  • yeah nah still a rort compared to the cheapies on ebay/dx

  • There was also a couple of other kensington discounts in Dicksmith Pagewood. One was an iphone charger with auxiliary plug for $20 and the other was an iphone desk charger with mini battery to extend the iphone life for $30.
