Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S: 1TB $364.05, 2TB $575.95 + $15 Delivery @ The Telecom Shop

102

I've used the shop before for IT/Telco supplies and they are legit. So, if you can't do what I did and do an Officeworks 5% price beat on it ($729 down to $562.83) the deal link for the 1TB or the 2TB should still be a good saving.

1TB - TheTelcoShop
2TB - TheTelcoShop
Officeworks Price Beat Guarantee
1TB - Officeworks
2TB - Officeworks

Please note this is my first ever deal post. Please provide any and all constructive feedback. Thanks.

    Nice fake prices.

    $310 on Amazon. $350 locally.

    • The 2tb looks to be the cheapest I've seen though. The 1tb I've seen for $280 many times on Microsoft eBay.

    • The 1TB isn't a deal, but the 2TB model it seems to be. $622 on Amazon

      • +2

Anyone paying either price for the 2TB has rocks in their head. These shockingly overpriced xbox ssds are easily the biggest flaw with the console.

    • -2

The $310 one on Amazon is shipped from Amazon UK as a grey import. So don't go mixing overseas stock prices with local Australian stock price.

Otherwise the Australian stock which is sold by Amazon AU and shipped from an Australian warehouse is $349 which is the same as the local store price.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08K48F6QZ/ref=ox_sc_ac…

      • +1

I didn't mix it. It's available at that price from a much more reputable company. I mentioned the local price.

$417 fake RRP down to $364 is a joke.

        • -3

Yeah it may be from a much more reputable company but the $310 happens to be the Amazon UK price. If you're going to be comparing an online store with legit Australian strock then you've got to be comparing to another store selling Australian stock for the price. You can't just say hey look it's cheaper elsewhere and then have it as overseas stock.

However i don't see it saying $417 as RRP. It's only their normal selling price. No where does it mention RRP. You'll have a case if it did mention RRP but nope it doesn't.

          • @hollykryten: It's their fake price online with a fake discount. Who cares. It's misleading.

            That's a shit company.

            • -1

@scuderiarmani: No one is forced to buy from this online store. Plenty of stores elsewhere with the same product.

              • @hollykryten: Hence the neg.

                Pretty obvious I'd have thought.

                I gave 2 options.

                • @scuderiarmani: Personally if i was going to buy the 1TB SSD i would buy it from a local JB store for the $349 with the over the counter warranty. Amazon AU is also good to for warranty but you've got ship it back to them. However JB supports Afterpay payments so it's all good there.

What a rip. Sony learnt from their Vita mistake.

    • +3

I really thought these would have gone 3rd party by now and drop in price. Sony's mainstream nvme is so much better.

      • I saw merits with the idea, most people have NFI what an NVME drive is, let alone one that meets the speed requirements and heat sink… Parents even less so.

I love the convenience of pulling it out easily and moving to another console.

But for the rest of us on the site, they obviously aren't overly attractive.

        • +3

But this is the age of YouTube, just www.youtube.com, type in ps5 storage upgrade, I think even my sister could figure it out (provided she bought a drive fast enough, that's where I think its not so obvious unless a ssd is labelled ps5 compatible on the box).

          • @reactor-au: Never underestimate the stupidity of the average person.

I can guarantee most of my relatives would call me first if they wanted to know. Let alone even knew it was possible.

        • While Microsoft has done a lot of things right on Series X (QuickResume for example), storage is one area where Microsoft mess up.

          • It is just a matter of including a better controller to enable PCIe gen 4 x4 in the internal SSD.
          • If the excuse is CFastExpress only support PCIe gen 3 x4 (or gen 4 x2), then don't block 3rd party ones with a pretty dumb whitelist. Honestly, what's so special about SN530 (which is DRAMless PCIe gen 3 x4, okay you could spin it as PCIe gen 4 x2, same bandwidth).
          • USB 3 ports are still gen 1 (5Gbps).

Not everyone has more than one Series S|X. The prices for the CFastExpress expansion cards are rip off. Also, other than Series S|X and some expensive cameras, what else can use you CFastExpress?

          • +1

@netsurfer: I won't say they aren't a rip off. But I can understand SOME premium on the price for the ease of use, installation and portability.

Obviously they are too much though.

Maybe 20-30%, fair. But NVME drives prices change on a whim, so it'll never be right.

            • +2

@scuderiarmani: It's CFastExpress so Micro$oft should stop firmware blocking 3rd party attempt. Sure, for people who really like it, they can pay for the premium, but don't block it.

$30 for the CFastExpress to m.2/NVMe adatper. Then, allow, SN750, 970 Evo Plus, SN570, or equivalent.

      • Microsoft puts a whitelist on the allowed SSDs. That whitelist is short.

A DIY solution used to exist, but Microsoft patched the firmware to block it. Even when it worked, you had to get an allowed SSD (i.e. SN530) which is a pain to get.

        https://www.amazon.com/NFHK-CF-Express-Adapter-PCIe4-0-Expan…

Reminder: people have reported Microsoft has patched the firmware to block DIY solution.

        • Sort of pointless if you are limited a very short whitelist of compatible drives

    • +2

These should be the price of the 2TB and 4TB versions, what joke.

It's annoying because there's GamePass, but there's only room for a handful of games at a time. Imagine having a Series S!

    • They make their money by charging $110 per game and making you pay to upgrade a game instead.

  • +2

This is so sad. What were MS thinking? Obviously didn't release a handheld 10 years ago and get burnt with their expensive proprietary format.

I paid like $250 for a decent 2TB NVMe for my PS5 and will need to pay well over double that for the same thing on my XSX.

    • +2

You act surprised but Microsoft has always had proprietary storage solution for each Xbox generations. It's the one feature I feel Sony gets right with each generation from PS2 onwards.

Xbox OG: Non-swappable, motherboard paired 8GB hard drive and proprietary swappable memory cards.
Xbox 360: Proprietary swappable hard drives and memory cards.
Xbox 360 Slim: Different form factor proprietary swappable hard drives, no memory cards.
Xbox One: Non-swappable, motherboard paired hard drives, but now supporting external HDD and SSD's for game storage.
Xbox Series: Non-swappable, motherboard paired hard drives (in the Series X), and proprietary storage cards (Series X and S), plus support for external HDD and SSD's for backwards compatible Xbox One and Xbox 360 games.

      • It wasn't as important on 360 and the OG, you could still play games from disc, storage was mainly for XBLA, DLC and saves at first.

Xbox One you could just use external like you say, but it really hurts this gen. I hope they get burnt by it so they never pull this crap again! Sony tried it and failed.

As time goes on it will get worse because standard drives will keep coming down in price and it doesn't really look like the Xbox ones will.

      • Xbox 360 added support for external USB storage too.

        • They did. So this is way worse

        • The weird thing is Series S|X supports only USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 gen 1 (5Gbps), just like XBox One S|X. WD released an external USB SSD storage for Series S|X and that technically supports USB 3.2 gen 2 (10Gbps), but it is pointless unless you use it on a PC or a Mac.

        • Actually, you’re right. I refreshed my memory and checked the support article.

          • @BillyG687: Yes it does, has done so for years. I store and play 100s of games on an external drive.

            Uh edit :)

  • Officeworks adds shipping costs too. Comes to $380.55 so no price match/price beat.

At $434 the 2tb was passable (at the time). $575 is a hard pass.

    • +1

Yeah that was bearable, and at the time, 3rd party drives for PS5 weren't THAT much cheaper. Now there's a gulf between them.

  • +1

Why would some one pay $364.05 + delivery for the 1TB SSD from that online store when can wander down to a local JB Hi-Fi store to buy it over the counter for $349 is beyond me.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/seagate-xbox-series-x-sto…

    • Just to tease you. Why would someone buy it from JB today when you can get it from Amazon for $310.77?

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Seagate-Storage-Expansion-Solid-St…

      • Maybe they want to have Australian stock as opposed to stock shipped from the UK. Notice how it says sold and shipped from Amazon UK. That is the actual Amazon UK price converted into $AUD.

But if we're talking about Amazon. This is the actual Australian stock which Amazon AU has (shipped from Amazon AU). It's being sold for $349.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08K48F6QZ/ref=ox_sc_ac…

        • So Amazon AU matches JB.

          • @netsurfer: Or JB price matched Amazon AU. Either way it's cheaper than what this online store on this so called deal can do.

            • @hollykryten: To nick pick, Amazon rarely sets the price for these things and tends to just match advertised prices. It’s fine when you can’t get in store, but it’s lazy competition.

  • Amazon selling this for $310.77

Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S 1TB $310 @ Amazon AU / Amazon UK is the seller though

Note: that's still NOT all time cheapest for OZB. Too lazy to post it and I still think it is a rip off price (not Amazon's fault).

  • jb hifi matched the 1tb for the 512gb for me not sure if it was a mistake or if they seen profit in it still but i got it for $240. plugged it in last night and its still only 900gb

    • If it says 900GB then it can't be a 512GB drive. You got the 1TB SSD. That's a bargain if you say you got it for $240.

      • yes ofc sorry let me rephrase jb matched the 512gb ssd price for the 1tb model for me

        • You got lucky because it's a completely different drive with another model number.

          • @hollykryten: yeah i thought so ive been sending them 55 inch tvs and trying to get them to match them as the 75 and have had no luck so far hahahah

  • Bought mine second hand for 1TB one for $250. Worked fine.

All the talk about bringing XBOX games to other platforms and MS tries to lock people with their own proprietary (approved) stuffs is just sad. It's 2022 and people still have no choice but to pay more than $360 for an inferior SSD to be able to play games on the XSX and XSS is just inexcusable really.

  • Microsoft do have a thing for proprietary, same thing with their headphones. Every time I see a headphone deal, first thing I do is Google ‘does this headphone work with Xbox?’

    • That’s because Xbox doesn’t support Bluetooth. Their own wireless system is actually much better and hence why they don’t usually license it.

But you can connect any headphones that have a 3.5mm via the controller if that helps.
