Jetstar - Change of travel times < 3 hours - refund possible?

Jetstar has changed the flight times for an upcoming trip in February and the new times are less than 3 hours, however, they really don't work with what we had planned for the rest of the trip.

Are there any thoughts or tips on cancelling these flights for a refund if they don't automatically meet Jetstar's requirements, ie more than 3-hour difference?

Yep as long as the arrival time is different by 3 hours even on starter fare. 4+ in my case they changed our perth direct flights to flight going via melbourne this added 4 hours to our trip. So opened up a online chat session and 24 hours we received our refund vouchers just in time for japan return for free sale, we booked 3 tix to tokyo return for much cheaper than going to perth.

Yes but the changes are less than 3 hours so can't get a refund under this section of their policy.

  • Should be possible: https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/help/articles/compensation-and…

Customers are entitled to a refund in the following situations:

    • If we change your scheduled departure time by less than three hours for a reason within our control but you are unable to use the booking for its intended purpose and we are unable to book you on an alternative flight that is acceptable to you.
    • Yeah, I read that but the chat was less than helpful when I contacted them about this option. Any suggestions on how to go about it, given the change of times is less than 3 hours?

Try again & see if you get a different agent.

  • You wont get a refund only credit in the way of vouchers

They have to give you a refund if that is what you request, as this is what is stated in their policy.

      • if they dont just do a chargeback

  • I'm never travelling with them again. Too many cancellations. No compensation.

Travel insurance wont cover cancellations by the airline. Only if you cancel it for a valid reason.

    • you able to get compo from other airlines jv?

ive had VA delay my outbound flight for 26hours. was just told to go home and send them receipts for travelling home to get reimbursed later. when i asked for compo, the answer was along the lines of "sht happens, deal with it"

you able to get compo from other airlines jv?

Based on info on their website, very unlikely…

But chance of cancellation is greater with Jetstar

        • All the airlines are doing it. I’ve had multiple changes to flights booked early this year to travel to and from NZ from July in March. Virgin have twice had us stopping over in Syd for a night instead of us travelling onto our destination the same day.

Merged from Jetstar Moved My Flight Time - Any Tips to Cancel for Refund

Jetstar moved my flight to depart 10 minutes later and I wish to cancel the flight. Jetstar's terms state "If we change your scheduled departure time by less than three hours for a reason within our control but you are unable to use the booking for its intended purpose and we are unable to book you on an alternative flight that is acceptable to you."

Has anyone succeeded in cancelling a flight and getting a refund for a change in departure time of fewer than 3 hours? If so, what were the reasons you stated? Someone mentioned something previously but I can't find the post.

I'm fine foregoing the airfares as it's only a couple of hundred bucks anyway.

10 mins? Don’t like your chances. Pretty hard to argue the flight will no longer be suitable for its original purpose because it might arrive 10 mins later.

      • Yep, totally agree. But I did read something somewhere (I thought on OzB) for someone who had done so successfully, hence my question.

      10 minutes later. Lol

It was probably not going to depart on time anyway.

Surely this has to be a troll…

LOL tell me you have buyers regret without telling me……

      • Actually, not at all. I avoid travelling with JQ whenever possible but these were super cheap fares and when you have 6 kids, life gets pretty expensive. The dates were booked mid 2022 and we have just found out our kids have school camps during the time we were supposed to be away. Sadly schools don't plan that far ahead. So we'll wind up not going as it doesn't work with drop-off times for camp etc but it's only a couple of hundred bucks so not too much invested.

You claim Schools don't plan that far ahead but back in Dec over 2 months ago you had been asking the same thing.

No reasonable person will say a 10 min change in time is a valid reason to get a full refund.

The best you might be able to do is move the dates to a more 'acceptable' time for you, but most likely you'll have to pay the fare difference.

        • You might be able to get back the taxes and fees you paid to Jetstar.

        • Your OP states the departure doesn't really fit with what you have planned for the holiday and now you're saying you simply can't go because kids have school camp lol

          Dishonesty never works

    • 10 mins dude, common, that's just straight up being mean. I don't think you'll even have slight chance for a refund (for reason of 10 min delay).

    • I always take the FareCredit option with Jetstar.

      It works great IMO.

Especially when you know that school camps can pop up at any time.

Do you really think that's a reasonable excuse to use to cancel your ticket? Most flights don't even depart within 10 minutes of its scheduled time.

What do you mean they don't work anymore? Jetstar only moved the flight 10 mins later…… You had been pretty dishonest to claim the flight no longer works for you be now departing 10 mins later.

  • So I can only get a refund for 10 minutes if it causes me significant disruption….try arriving 10 minutes late for your flight and see what happens! Also, why advise me with that I have options concerning a changed flight time when their criteria precludes this option?
