  • Do they have a Johnny5?

Bought the S5 max 2 months ago. Hands down best purchase of the year. I've got hardwood floors and carpet, and it cleans up excellently. Don't use the mop function, so having the functionality of the S7 is irrelevant to me. Price seems very good compared to the prices going for the newer models.

    • Price seems very good compared to the prices going for the newer models

Yeah this is why the price hasn't really gone down on this one. It hasn't changed much in price since I bought one 2 years ago. But it's still priced competitively compared to what is around and considering the reputation of this one.

This is a beast. I kinda wanna buy a second one for myself (got one for my parents)

  • What is the suction power? I had bought one from kogan last year, and I have S2 which i had bought 4 years ago. S2 suction power is 2500 and doing good job. I am not that much impressed with the S5 max other than mopping. S5 max does good moping but not that good for dust suction.

    • I have the S2 as well. Pretty happy with it. Would love to get another or similar since it does all that I need. I have all carpet so mopping is a wasted feature. What's a good option for me ?

  • I love mine, integrates well with home assistant as well

  • Bought one, was waiting for the price on these to drop a little. Thanks OP!

  • Deciding between one of these and a Yeedi Vac 2 Pro for $384 off Amazon for a small single bedroom apartment. Can't really see a major difference apart from the LIDAR?

    • Also brand and app/algorithm.

I bought Yeedi 2 Pro when it went on sale for $260. It still hasn’t created a map of my 2 BR Unit after 7 tries. However, it runs around and cleans the house pretty well even without the map. But you miss the scheduling and no go zones etc without the map. Might work out for you in the small space. As I said, happy with cleaning performance, not happy with app and map. I’m thinking of returning it. I would say $384 is high price for it.

      • Thanks heaps, very helpful!

  • Whats better, this or a Q7? Don't really need the mopping function.

    • +1

Q7 has slightly better suction (2700pa vs 2000pa) and a bigger dust bin (in exchange for a small water tank). The Q7 comes with the new all rubber brush type which seems to tangle less but also be less effective on carpet, but you can swap either brush into both machines.

In other words, much of a muchness.

  • Anyone know where I can buy a kit to replace the filter and other parts?

    • Ebay for me. 20 odd dollars for a whole set

    • eBay or AliExpress.

This or the Dreame L10 Pro?

    • +1

Both Roborock and Dreame are both heavily invested in by Xiaomi, with Roborock being more of a "known" brand with what people think is the best app and navigation.

The biggest difference between the two is that the L10 Pro has advanced object avoidance which helps it avoid obstacles better than the S5 Max.

On paper the L10 Pro also has higher suction, but it's debatable whether that has a real world impact according to reviews.

What is the consensus on buying international 'direct import' products from Kogan?

    • Same question…
      Someone shared this recently https://imgur.com/a/FL6YEZD
I wonder if international 'direct import' would be covered by Australia warranty?

Cheers. Finally hit the bullet and bought one of these fandaned robot vacuums haha

      Lazy.

      • Got enough energy to neg you back though

  • Just bit the bullet and got one too. Read a few neg reviews on the website saying they received the S6 Pure one instead of the S5 Max so I'll make sure to check and be ready to complain if I cop that too!

  • This model is somewhat outdated so I’m still hesitating. What is other Roborock model that’s one step better than this?

    • +1

      There's quite a few. The S6, S6 Pure, S6 MaxV, S7, S7 MaxV. Also the Q7 and the Q7 Max.

This one is highly recommended because it is the best value for money and does an excellent job.

I would have purchased this if I didn't already get the S7+ deal with the auto empty dock. Even then I'm still thinking about getting it.

I have an old S5 that does a great job, had to repair the lidar system twice so it's on its last legs, or wheels. That said it's pretty easy to repair.

Here's a full lineup of the various models to compare.

      • I’m sold. Thanks. 👍

      • what was the issue with your S5s lidar and the fix? just wondering because I got one and just in case I encounter tha =). cheers!

        • +1

It come up with a random error where it would turn on, spin up as if it were about to start, then stop completely and throw an error. When contacting Roborock, they explained it was the lidar module or the motor that runs the lidar had failed after sending them some videos of the issue. I ended up purchasing a replacement from aliexpress and installed it myself.

          • @dbell: cool, thanks!

          • +1

@dbell: I had the same, the vacuum would fire up then shut down after about 10 seconds. I was about to take the thing apart. Then I found a small piece of glass stuck in the top laser mechanism that stopped it from spinning around. Removed and back to normal.
