        • If you cancel home nbn and replace it with this plan then yes is quite possible to use the 300 gb a month. My home nbn was costing $109 a month for 250 Mbps download speed.

        • Exactly right 👍

    • My NBN is FTTN and suburb is not even in the list for upgrade by 2025 (so basically a hot piece of poo). This 300GB plan has been a life saver. 4K Dolby Vision + Atmos works like a beauty on my 85" TV. I primarily use my phone data for TV and mostly end up using 80% or 90% each month. Once I even ran out of data a couple of days before the reset.

      • So have you kept your home nbn as this plan is a great replacement.

      • +1

I have fttn and get full speed 50mbps day and night. More than enough for 4k. But I guess it's a cheaper option than having internet and mobile at the same time. Mind you my 50/20 plan is $53 and 150gb year mobile is $10 a month so it's still dearer for me.

        • I had 50/20 and I get buffering when watching Dolby Vision and Atmos content. NBN just can't cut it unless it's more than 50. I was getting ~40/43Mbps downloads, 4G goes to 200+ Mbps easily anytime of the day. During late nights I have seen 400+ speeds.

      • For most people its going to be not enough to replace nbn, or too much to have just as a phone plan though. In your case yes, its good value, but yours is a rare case I reckon. I sure as hell dont know, but i reckon. There is a reason they can afford to give away a $1200 voucher with it, and its because most people just rip themselves off by purchasing this plan.

        • +1

Yeah I guess… also icing on the cake when your employer sponsors part of the bill as a monthly entitlement which would be lost otherwise.

    • +1

      Agree.
Whilst a $1200 GC might sound enticing, it'll be forgotten like a fart in the wind once you've used it then you're left paying for a phone contract you don't need for 2 years.

      • +1

I agree, many ozbargain badges should be handed in for being suckered into this one

      • If you sell the $1200 GC for $1000, over 24 months is a $45/month discount.

So basically you will be paying $45/month for 300 Gb data on the best Network in Australia.

  • +3

DO NOT touch JB Hifi Telstra plans if you intend on making international calls.

    • Very true

    • +1

Hey Willi, Can we get some clarity on this? I've got 2 Trips booked for next year, Both Zone 1 so I'm not sure how this will affect me.

      • I travelled to USA on a JB plan in September. It wasn’t an issue. I enabled the travel pack feature which was $10 a day.

I assume the comment above was referring to international calls made from Aus.

    • How come?

    • Not an issue if you call over FB messenger or WhatsApp etc, but yeah a concern for those that still call lines directly.

  • please check my math. 79 (after10off) X 24months. 1896. take off GST 172. take off 30 percent tax from 1896 =569 so. total deduction 172+569= 741+1200=1941. 1896-1941=-45

    -45dollar money back?

    • +1

If you are taking the gst off due to input tax credits, then the amount you can claim back at 30 % is the ex gst price X 30% which is $1724 so the deduction will be $517 not $569 which results in zero benefit. Also have you checked that you can get a further $10 off for port in credit?

      • What would be the working if the employer reimburses $80 per month in monthly entitlement for using your own phone? :)

        • i am a ABN worker. just sole trader. i can get 10percent off gst. and takeoff tax 30percent. because its work related. :)

  • We can get 550 mbps where i live from the Telstra 5g tower. This plan is not speed capped like some 5g being sold through mvno 3rd parties.
It means that we can downgrade our home nbn to a slower speed with a saving so it's a good move for us.

  • +4

I checked with telstra chat and this is a $99 plan which already has the $10 port in credit applied to give $89 a month. I can't see how you could get it down to $79 a month.

    • I was on Telstra website just then. There is no $99 plan. It's $89/mth with 300GB on the website. I'm not sure if JB prices are marked up though.

  • If we have a woolworths mobile plan which uses the telstra network at the moment are we entitled to this offer?

    • Yes, you are. Tried it previously and am on a woolies plan waiting to port in with one of these offers. Aldi (Telstra network as well) works too.

  • Can you data share off this plan? With a second Sim?

  • +1

$89 a month, who in there right mind pays this without getting a free phone. Telstra sucks so many people in. The average user doesn't exceed 150 GB a year. Why don't they just reduce the price and get more people on board in an instant. Just get a cheap boost contract. People are so suckered in with gift cards.

    • +6

You could always… you know… use the voucher for a phone

      • -3

And support jb hifis profit margin. Even buying a phone makes the deal overpriced

        • +2

Whats wrong with supporting jb hifi profit margin? i know people hate Harvey Norman but first I've heard this one. JB are actually decent and have great after sale support. You could wait for the next sale on a phone you want and use the vouchers for it. $45/month is good for Telstra which has better than most in terms of coverage

    • Many options, you can sell the GC for around $1000 and at the end you would be paying around $45/month for 300Gb Telstra service without any cap.

      Have you done the math??

    • Im getting a Google Pixel 7 Pro 5G 256GB so $39 for endless 5g data with the best network in Australia seems ok to me.

  • My 12 months contract with JB/Telstra ends today and was able to cancel the plan since yesterday.

I’ve doing the math since yesterday and whilst I was about to jumó ship to Belong’s 200 Gb/month at $45/month (double data for the first 12 months), this deal had me thinking.

Even if I sell the GC for 10-15% less than value, that means that I would be paying around $45/month for this deal.

I’m even thinking about getting a new service (new number) and replace it with my Current number.

I do use a lot of data and only have 400 Gb Mobile broadband at home.

    Mmmm decisions decisions……..

Right I posted this last time this offer was available and I will post it again for a bill waiver promo for $69pm https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740346?page=2#comment

Step 1) Dont go to sales or to the general department, go to the billing team as this worked for both the $10 and the $20 responses
Step 2) Go off the lines "G'day I am wondering if there would be any issues going forward when I have activated my plan with Telstra, JB Hi Fi $99 promo that if I am going to be eligible to receive your Telstra $20 pm port in credit for the remainder of my contract, this is probably my determining factor in choosing Telstra"
Step 3a) If saying yes you are eligible or something that confirms the waiver - you can buy the plan
Step 3b) If they say no, repeat
    Step 4) Buy the plan
Step 5) Once you have got the phone, contact Telstra and use a screenshot of the convo as proof and see if you can cross them over IF they say no
Step 6) You have unlocked a $69 (nice) p/m plan for the next 24 months and a $1,200 JB GC

  • Has anyone claimed the $10 or $20 credit through the live chat after porting in?

    • +1

I pre-claimed it thru chat last night for $10 for 12mths but it sounds like you could do better, but I wasn't gonna be greedy / spamming chat requests

      • Thanks for the feedback mate.
Just found a comment down below saying he got rejected by customer service when asking for $10 pm

    • I tried 3 times through sales - no luck. Switched to Accounts and Billing - worked first time $20 credit promised by copying the above wording.

Have not contracted or applied credit yet. But promised and screenshot.

      Thanks!

      • +1

So you're getting $69 per month?

        • Update. I signed up yesterday, spoke to two telstra chat team members, first one claimed $20 was a mistake and said he would add $10.

The second one said he would add/honour $20 port in credit no issue. So $69 per month for 24 months correct.

I usually do the $69 per month ($10 port in credit on top), $500GC 12month promos. But havent seen one in a while. This works out about the same anyway.

  • Anyone know if they will have 69 per month with 500gc for 12 months like that have for last 2 years

    • think they have a 69 per month with 300 gc for 12 month if not mistaken

  • Argh. I did this for an $800 gift card not long ago.

  • +1

How long can i hold the gift card before it expires? Can i wait to use it and apply it against an S23 Ultra when it comes out?

    • Jb giftcards don't expire. So as long as they don't go under 😅 should be all good

      • +1

WOW sight and sound vietnam flashbacks

  • +1

While the plan is expensive, it gets you an iPhone 14 for $200 upfront.
Or, you're buying an iPhone 14 for $1400 and a top of the range Telstra 5G plan for $29/month. (W/ $10 PIC).

Just about how you wish to think about the deal. Then there's also the maths you could do about how much you're already spending on a plan, and how much extra this one is (and whether that difference is worth it for upgrading to basically a holy grail plan)

This deal is also suitable for those who are happy to realise they are getting what they pay for. - and most importantly for those who have something they are already going to spend on at JB (a new phone)

    • +1

      Too true!

  • ah - looks like a great plan, but unfortunately no data share available on these plans :(

  • Is there any way to get this deal if you're an existing Telstra customer on month to month?

    • Get a new service and then transfer your number to the new plan.

  • Unsure if a Boost customer can switch to another non Telstra provider (via eSIM) and then port back in? In a day?
I know it depends on the store but I am not sure if Telstra backend systems have become any smarter ;)

    • I am on boost currently and would like to know if porting out to non telstra provider for a day and back to telstra (as a new customer) would make me eligible for this deal?

  • +1

i keep hitting up the chat and get denied for extra $ off the plans… anyone have any luck?

  • The catalogue shows the gift card offer on $99 per month? Has it changed?

    • I took it from the JB newsletter email

  • Can you add an Apple Watch plan number/data share plan to this? I spoke to someone on Telstra chat and they said no, but I am seeing on different forums including OzB that is possible. Anyone tried this?

    • I had the earlier $49 p/m JB deal and adding a watch for $5/m worked fine.

  • The Goodguys have the same deal going, but doesnt mention new Telstra customers. If i want a new number, would i be eligible for the deal there?

  • Have any pre existing Telstra customers got access to this deal? Ive gone into JB and theyve said i cant get this deal, even if i get a new service or port out and back in.
    Cheers

    • Boooo :(

Thanks for saving me the time visiting a store though. Hopefully there'll be some new deals when the S23 comes out.

  • +3

Anyone been in store yet to see if there is any deals for the 12 months $69 plan. Cheers

    • Same question here

    • +1

only 24 month $69 plan, you get a $700 gift card.

      • Boo. I’m out

  • Tried a few Telstra rep in chat but they all said they can't change JB's offer/unstackable, any tips in getting the $20 port in credit?

  • Anyone had luck getting $20/10 credit from Telstra rep on phone or love chat tried both and told they can't do anything

    • nope, 5 people all said no.

      • Yes. $20. Read my comment above.

  • I am pushing even I kept the screen shot with the live chat yesterday before port in. Looks like they are kicking the ball.

    • Did you end up getting the port in credit with the screenshot?

    • Please share the screenshot so we can all use hahaha

  • if anyone manages to get $20 of for 24 months on tops of this then it becomes a great deal

    • +1

If you get an extra $10/mth on top of the $10/mth JB is already giving, then it's the best you're going to get.

  • Port issue, apparently my residential address does not exist. No eta on when port will occur but the contract has started so I’m currently paying for nothing -_-

  • Can confirm that, over Telstra chat support, I get 20$ credits per month for 24 months. Even though I have to reach out to them again after 12 months to remind them to apply it again.
This means I pay $69/month for 300GB per month equals 19$/month after deducting the gift card.

    • What did you say to them? I was rejected a few times by them

    • Please share the magic words you used

    • Can you please share the chat screenshot or transcript?

    • i was rejected 3 times… dont know how u guys do it

    • Tried again today for my mate. 3 reps rejected it. Even when I said and prove the screenshot of yesterday convo

    • Finally did it. 5th attempted. 20$ off monthly for first 12 months. After that, I have to reach out again to applied the second 12 months (Finger cross that they will honour it with screenshot convo).
I used my yesterday Discount Reference number and they gave in

      • You inspire us all Goz!

When you say $20 off month for the first 12 months - that's in addition to the JB $10 credit? ($99 down to $89 - then additional $20 all in total = $69 a month?)

    • Spent an hour with 1 rep after port successful and even though I contacted them first and got it recorded on my account, they refused to honour the port-in credit.. Gonna have to try again later…urgh.

  • I tried to go to Telstra chat support first and the person just keep directing me to go back to JB Hi Fi support about the plan. And that was after I was already advised by the JB Hi Fi support person to contact Telstra directly….

  • Update:

Went to JB to do this deal.

I was told that if you are an existing Telstra costumer and want to get a new number/service IS NOT possible to get the promo.

But then the rep told me to:
    - Buy a new $2 sim from coles (Optus/Vodafone)
    - Activate a new number
    - Go back to JB to do the deal.
    - Deal was done in about 10-15 min

The only downside was that My address gave an error so, the order was placed but service is not activated yet.

So, the rep told me that he would fix everything with Telstra and once the service is activated they will call me to collect the $1200 GC.

  • +4

So…. I did the chat with Telstra last night (at like 3am when I couldn't sleep!) and they offered me $20 off port in credit.
I went to JB and signed up, then msg'd back and they turned around and said, because JB gave you $10, we can take that off and give you $20…. I said that $10 is a separate offer that JB Hifi is made and TELSTRA have offered me an additional $20/month port in credit…. Currently they're saying I can get all $30/month, but I need to msg them each month to get the additional $10…. I said just give me $240 account credit, so hopefully that'll happen… BUT… it is POSSIBLE to get a total of $30 off the $99 plan..

    • Ok…. It may have taken 2hrs and 2 different staff on chat, but I've got $30 off the $99 plan per month ;)

      • +1

I'm on the same boat.. they confirmed credit before I signed up and now they turned around and saying it is JB's deal and to contact them.

I have a screenshot of the agent confirming $20 credit. Do you have a screenshot of getting $30 credit that I can use to push them?

        • I think he included the already discounted $10 off from $99 to $89 as part of the total discount
So $20 credit from Telstra and $10 from JB :)

          • @BargainsGrabber: yep! That's what I told them! I said - You've offered me $20 port in discount and JB have offered me $10 off the plan :)

    • I could only get to $79 cause it was an original $99 plan

  • Looking to buy J.B hifi gift cards worth $1500 with 10% discount
