Apologies re Posting of Life's Little Treasures Foundation Precious Prem Pack and Digital Prem Pack

Greetings fellow OzBargainers

I just wanted to apologise to all those OzBargainers who read and were offended by my posting, earlier today, of Life's Little Treasures Foundation's various packs. At the time of posting, I did not realise/think that this posting would have caused harm/offense. I now realise the hurt/distress that I have caused. And for that I am sorry. I will try to do better next time. Also, thank you to the moderators for acting swiftly.

Thank you for your time, patience and understanding. Once again, please accept my apologies for any offense caused.

Regards

Humilem Servum Tuum.

Tl;dr context for those that missed it?

Freebie deal posts from charities targeted at specific groups where you receive a physical item in the mail are not permitted.

      Now i have FOMO

You just need to follow the rules and also not spam and you'll do fine. And make sure your deals are actual deals, people will call you out if the same product is cheaper on Amazon or wherever else, or if the product is instant garbage.

Cheers bud, appreciate the apology! And yes thanks to the mods for removing the post quickly

Sorry - I guess I missed this, but are we really talking about a post where you get something for free from a charity?
I can kinda see how it isn't really a 'deal' - but this site allows people to post upcoming Netflix movie releases as a 'deal', so I can't really see the harm - and certainly not the need for the grovelling apology.

so I can't really see the harm

For spamming a charity for free shit?

      Srsly?

As someone who's had a prem baby who didn't make it, thank fk the post was removed

The problem isn't the value of the product but that you're taking advantage of a charity.
The free stuff is meant for specific people. Obviously posting it here would result in serious abuse of the goodwill.
While some of the deals like price errors are ethically debatable, taking from a charity is definitely crossing the line.

Oh - I see the problem.
You assume people here will abuse the offer and that those who are not eligible will take advantage.
Now I see the issue and knowing the a-holes who use this site, I suspect you may be right.
Sad, isn't it that we assume that this site is full of w@nkers.

Yeah, you got it. I think it’s fair to say that ozbargain attracts the crowd that will take a freebie no matter what. I assume the majority on ozbargain would not take from a charity but just because the size of the user base, it could devastate the stock from the charity so that those actually in need would not be able to get it.

To be honest, OP - I trust that your intentions were good and that it was meant as an FYI for those who actually needed it or are otherwise "eligible".

It's a real shame that people have to monitor their own behaviour because of the OzB mob, and it's a real reflection on the users of this site. Perhaps the onus should be on us to not take advantage of charities.

It speaks to a broader problem though, which is that as the OzB community continues to grow, the percentage of users (let alone those who just visit without ever making an account) who actually post deals and actively contribute to the community in some way (whether it's through voting, forum posts, deals, competitions…etc.) is becoming smaller and smaller. It's sad that the vast majority of people are just here to smooch off the latest deals without ever contributing anything themselves.

To be fair, the community can come off as elitist. The number of times a newbie gets downvoted into the ground for a subpar deal is saddening
I try to leave a positive comment letting the OP know that the effort is appreciated and encouraging future posts.
But I don’t blame them for never posting again after copping the all negativity

What does the voting even mean or the benefit. I read comments etc but rarely look at the voting numbers. They mean nothing to me. Why do people get offended by a few clowns hitting a plus or minus

        • -2

i just negged you for blatantly stating an opinion…for this is the ozbargain way

        • Even neutral comments can come off as negative when accompanied with a downvote. Having all the comments filled with “no deal” with a big red neg isn’t a warm welcome to the site.

  • …how dare you???

  • It is sad we have to assume there are sharks out there willing to take unfair advantage of offers for disadvantaged or affected people. When i see a post advertising a free xxx for people with cystic fibrosis (CF), my first thought is 'do i need it more than others with CF' before even applying. I very often do not apply for the financial help the CF associations offer to us as i feel others need it more than me. Like sporting allowances or a day out financial support, two examples of the many CF association offers for PWCF. Yet there are many unscrupulous people who will exploit and try take advantage of anything they can, even if they don't need it. Like the cleptomaniac who has dozens of unopened stolen merchandise in his garage…. we need to be careful in this world. Covid, Bushfire and flood subsidies regularly go to people who really weren't affected, apparently the church also gets many bogus claims about sexual abuse in the past that they just need to pay out, not to mention Centrelink and tax fraud…. humanity has gone to shit, we can't rely on morals any more.
