Just bought this deal. Don't forget to use the code HONEY to bring it down to $49.56!

  • Is there a "Best character class" to play this game, or recommendations?

    • +6

The "class" doesn't matter so much as what build you decide to go with. There are a few weapons in this game that are undeniably a lot stronger than others, so you could always go for those if you want the "easy" way through, though I personally think it ruins the experience a bit. This game is difficult, but using some certain weapons can make it a LOT easier, though they are absolutely not necessary. I know it might be hard to do, but if you want the best possible experience playing this game, try not to look up guides or strongest builds online as that will only set you down a rabbit hole of just babying through the entire game. Although, my friend does like to say that killing the bosses by any means necessary is perfectly acceptable in a Souls game, only you can be the judge of whether or not it still feels rewarding for you. I do know that some weapons I used did make some bosses too easy, but sometimes I reached a breaking point where I just wanted to kill the thing and get past it before I rage quit lol.

If enemies cheese me, you'd better believe I won't feel guilty about cheesing the game back

      • +1

I think the game is unfair at times, therefore checking guides etc is ok.
I chose samurai as starter based on a guide, but I didn’t really enjoy the play style and re-respec’d to a incantation build

    • +3

You can respec your skills at some point in the game. Just pick something fun.

      • +3

Can't modify your starting spec stats however.

    • -1

The best class is the class you have the most experience with. Choose one and just learn it.

    • +2

You can pretty much make any build from any starter class, but it definitely does change the way the first few hours of the game plays.

Samurai would be a good a pick since you get good armour and a cool katana right out of the gate, plus a ranged option with your bow. I went prisoner, you get a great helmet and some offensive spells, it's a good start for a spellsword mage kind of build. The confessor looks like a cool way to do a faith/strength build.

Deprived is great if you really want you start from nothing and work for every new piece of gear. It's a rewarding way to play, but very hard.

It doesn't matter too much. Pick one you like the look of, go hunting for a better weapon, upgrade it often, and just try out different stuff. You can respec your character after a few major bosses so don't worry about choosing the "wrong" build.

  • Ok now just need Amazon to match $49 and done

    • +1

Does Amazon really price match games?

      • Yes but because this is a PC key, unlikely. I'm holding out for $49 boxing day from s.o.m.e.w.h.e.r.e……….

Otherwise I might as well wait for the GOTY edition next year.

    Just a heads up:

I have read up on the PC performance of this game and apparently there has been next to no performance fixes since launch. This means the stuttering is still there. It means there is no ultrawide support and that it’s capped at 60fps.

Sounds like it isn’t worth buying on PC based on its technical shortcomings.

    • I don't mind the capped 60fps in this type of game as it is not a fast-action FPS game, but I would really like support for my 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor.

      • There's a mod that adds ultrawide support and allows you to unlock the framerate, but the downside is that you have to play in offline mode.

    • The game is a bit of a technical mess. It has performance issues on all platforms, but I'd take the poor framerate issues the PS5 version has over the awful stuttering that I had on PC. From Software is notorious for this, and rarely do they ever fix any performance issues.

I'd recommend buying it on Steam, so that you have the option to refund it if you have any issues.

Similar price at humble of you have choice subscription

  • Elden Ring is what all the cool kids are playing. Don't miss out.

  • Hanging out for an Xbox deal

Just Imho and fyi even though this game won GOTY awards. If you don't like game like dark soul, where it's about gameplay fighting boses and lot of dungeons without interesting stories like skyrim/witcher then you shouldnt buy this game. I find this game is very boring for me even though is good gameplay for me i like game like skyrim/witcher 3 with interesting storyline

This game is sooo good. Can’t recommend this enough
