  • can i use this for telstra long life?

    • Yes you can. :-)

  • Just phoned my local store he said 7/11 policy is one per customer ?

  • Are these always standard sized sims?

  • can i use this for blackberry?

  • I know it's 7/11's phrasing, but SIM starter kit would be a more apt description in the title, because bare SIMs are normally $2. Any idea which plans can be used with the starter money?

  • usually you can choose, should be the same as the woolworths starter packs that they occasionally have for 10 bux, (and JB had them for 10 the other day too)
basically when you set them up you choose your plan. and its only good for new users, IE can't have an existing number.

    • But I think you can port a number from another provider (and they would like you to).

      • yep, you can, its part of the set up process… cant remember if you have to call them for that though.

        • you just contradicted yourself a little bit there

        • He didn't really, you can port a number from another provider but you cannot use this $10 for $30 credit deal if your number is already with Telstra. As posters below have noted though you can use credit me2u to send credit but it's only really good for offers where you don't get a bonus ie simplicity and long life. It won't give you the bonus Credit or data you normally get on the popular cap encore offer for example.

  • So you can stick this one into your unlocked USB broadband modem ?

how much data can you get for $30 ?

Is the Huawei E173 good for Telstra SIMs ? I mean does it support the NextG network ? or is it mobiles only ?

  • How many days until the credit expires? Can you still receive calls after the credit expires?

    • Not sure about max credit validity, usually it depends on the plan you choose.

However I have had my SIM stay active for 6 months after credit expires.
e.g. the current one I have is
      Credit expired 12 May 2012
      SIM Exp: 24 Nov 2012

  • According to Telstra $39 gives you 1GB of pre-paid data
    Expiry: 30 days

  • Anyone knows if the 3GB option for ipad/ipad2 still applies for this sim starter kit?
(I was referring to the deal on http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61487)

    • +1

Yes but the call center specifically asks you if you purchased an ipad sim (full price) or a phone sim and makes you agree to their terms and conditions. The terms say you have to buy an ipad sim to get the 3gb deal.

  • Anyone knows if the $30 credit is tied to the SIM?
In another word, can I use the $30 on my existing SIM?

    • -1

no, only for new accounts… not transferable. (well the bonus isnt atleast)

    • +3

Sign up with a Pre-Paid Cap Encore, and use Credit Me2U to transfer the $30 across…

      • It's not necessary to be on cap encore any of the offers will do. though you can use credit me2u to send credit but it's only really good for offers where you don't get a bonus ie simplicity and long life. It won't give you the bonus Credit or data you normally get on the popular cap encore offer for example.

        • As I've mentioned below…

Assuming you've already got a SIM card set up with "Long Life" – for the long expiry, that you've recharged with $30 cash/voucher for 6 months, or $60/$70 for 12 months. Also assume that you've converted over to "Simplicity" for the low rates.

Set each SIM up as "Cap Encore" and use Telstra Credit Me2U to transfer each $30 that you bought for $10 across to your main Telstra SIM.

NB, there is a maximum of $300 credit on a Telstra Prepaid Account…

  • Get woolworths to price match or Officeworks!! And beat ot 5%!!!

  • I just went into three different 7-11s around Melbourne and I couldn't see any $30 starter packs at all. One had signs up about "Get a $30 starter pack for $10" but was told that I could get that offer at the Telstra store on the corner of Swanston and Bourke. Despite there being a sign there (this was the one just down from Hungry Jack's on Bourke, nearish JB.

Are they $30 packs specifically or does it just involve getting a $2 SIM and $30 recharge for $10?

    • They are Telstra $30 starter sim packs with a sim loaded with $30 of credit once you activate it. The same thing from previous Woolworths specials.

      • Yeah, I had a look and saw them on Telstra's website. Those same packs I couldn't find in any of the 7-11 stores I went to. Sucks because I just ran out of credit on my Woolies SIM and was looking at switching over.

Anyone know if a 7-11 anywhere has honoured this yet? It's been going for a few days so it's not like it's just started.

        • The telstra store on swanston and bourke won't honour this deal its a 7-11 promo not telstra. If you desperately want this deal the JB-HIFI on bourke st was still selling their kits for $10 like the previous deal.

  • I have just learned that there are no 7Eleven's in Perth?! Well, not according to the website anyways.

Anyone know if the same deal is available anywhere in Perth?

  • I went to four 7-11's in the eastern suburbs of Sydney in the last hour, they only had (sheepishly) the $2 sim kits, with instore signs saying that the $30 kits are $10. methinks the store owners have bought them up and are waiting for the promo to finish so they can sell them then.

    • +1

Same as my experiences in Melbourne. Plenty of $2 SIM packs and $30 recharge vouchers/flyers, but none of the packs I've seen on Telstra's website. Sounds VERY shifty.

      • Does sounds to be. I wonder if a memo has gone around Mr. Brunby CEO style?

  • Got two of these. Manager didn't know about it until we scanned one up for $10!

    • Epsom & Maribyrnong, Rd. They only had one left after the 2 I bought. And that was at noon.

  • Is this a deal if no one here can buy it? Can anyone please let us know if they've been sucessful in getting one? Dare I say it might be bait advertising? Does anyone go into these stores unless they want chewing gum, krispy kreams, slurpees, smokes, use the ATM or they have stoner munchies?

  • i got 3packs from bourke st 711 and thats the only stock they have.

    • Which Bourke St one? There's at least five that I can think of, and that's b/w Elizabeth and Spring St.!

      • its between elizabeth and queen st. went to the spenser st station 71 the guy said they are bringing more stock in but no idea when its become available.

  • +1

Thats bourke st melbourne. Anyone in sydney get any?

    • yes, bought one from 64 Clarence Street store yesterday. They still have around 8 starter kits left that I could see.

how can a 30 dollar sim card be a 10 dollar sim card? a 30 dollar sim card is 30 and a 10 is 10. think about it.

    • +1

it's a $30 sim card sold at $10, does that make sense?

    • Seek professional advice Dr. Tenma :)

    • +4

Just like someone with an IQ of 30 talk like they only have one that hits 10.

  • FWIW, I managed to find two back in Geelong. The new one near Kardinia Park on Latrobe seemed to have a few micros and another had a single full-size (for my tablet). If desperate, people should be able to hit up that Latrobe one.

  • I just got 2 sim pack from 409 Collins Street. there are still a few there.

  • How is Telstra?

  • Here's how to get MOG music streaming for a third of the usual price.

Just bought some Telstra $30 Prepaid Starter Kits for $10 each at 7-Eleven.

Once you've got sufficient credit, redeem them for Big Pond Music Vouchers at activefun.telstra.com/telstramusic/gift_voucher.aspx on your mobile. Make sure to charge it to your account.

That should give you MOG music streaming for a third of the usual price.

  • I found a bunch at the 7-11 in Caulfield, picked up 2 of them. I'm thinking about setting one up on Cap Encore and then transfer the $30 to my mifi datasim which is on the $180/365 day plan. Does anyone know, would I be getting the same rate per MB? I guess it would be but not sure about the expirery… kinda confusing.

    • yes, if you recharge before it old rate plan expire.

  • So can you set it up for use just as a data SIM ?
    Don't want any calls.

All I read is Encore, Simplicity,Long Expiry, which is Prepaid Talk plans….
