Wow…I have the 700s but they are a few years old now! This is tempting

    • +1

Got both and I feel they're on the same level and not worth buying the other if you have one already.

      • I think the 700 sound better.
        Probably Personal preference
        Maybe. Maybe not.

    • I tried the 700's on briefly in store, they felt so uncomfortable

  • +4

Purchased these in the recent JB deal. I loved the look and sound of the Sony's but they just don't fit well on my big head / ears.

The Bose fit so nicely over my ears and have deeper earcups. I can wear them without any fatigue.

    • +1

Did you buy the Sonys? I did as they were fine in the shop but after wearing for more than 10 mins they hurt my head

Guess I will resell them since I can't imagine I can return for this reason alone.

      • +6

        I bought the Bose QC45.

I owned a pair of QC35 II's and they were great and comfortable. I then moved to the XM4's. The sound was better (I preferred it at least) but they were never quite as comfortable.

So when I needed to upgrade this time I actually really wanted to like the fit of the XM5's. I went to JB twice and tried on both but I couldn't go past the QC45's. Happy with my decision.

        • +3

How do you find them compared to the Q35ii? I've been tempted to pull the trigger on the 45s every time they come to the $306 price, but there's nothing wrong with my 35ii to justify the buy …. unfortunately.

          • +1

@hodgey: I would agree with what others have said in it not being a huge difference.

USB-C is a big winner for me. Also the new Bose Music app is much better than the old Bose Connect app that I used when I had the QC35's. I do like a bit of extra bass and I have them set at the maximum +10 and find that sounds pretty good to me.

            • @AdamFury: 'I do like a bit of extra bass' - What's that you say … ?! Speak up - I can't hear you … !

        • Hi. I also have the qc35 and was thinking if this is worth the upgrade. Hid you qc35 break or just to update.

      • +2

I've had the QC35 II's for nearly 5 years and they're still going strong. Whilst not the best sound quality, the noise cancelling is quite good and most importantly they are SUPER comfortable and can be worn for very long periods of time without issues. I'll probably upgrade to these or the next model once my QC35 II's die.

        • +1

They're a good standard, all Bose typically sound fairly robotic though (mostly treble and bass, lack mids etc). As long as the battery is around 30h, USB C, good apps and codecs the not much to worry about. These days the haptic controls are a lot better than buttons imo.

People should try them all on and see what suits thou, and ideally listen to them too

          • @G-rig: I mostly use them to listen to Youtube videos, not so much music so they work really well for me, especially on planes.

Even after 5 years, the battery life is still excellent, I used them nearly every day for the first 2 years of its life. There is some physical wear and tear which is to be expected, and the original ear cups wore out, so I purchased some aftermarket ones (which were horrible) and ended up buying the official Bose ones and they're significantly more comfortable.

            • @ozb88: Yeah they are great for that, Must be a lot better than the cabled qc25 I had. Mind you cell batteries were handy on the go.

Some aftermarket pads are great for $10, hit and miss though.

Most bt headphones aren't that musical compared to wired audiophile headphones anyway, but the NC technology is pretty cool. A few others look ok but are heaps more (>$600).

    • +1

I think we had the total opposite experience.

I have a big head/ears, and I felt way more comfortable in the Sony's over the Bose.

      • +1

That is strange. I found that the Sony's felt more of like an on ear fit rather than the Bose that sit over the ears.

      • +1

Definitely a hot take. The XM4 have much smaller and shallower cups than the QC’s (I have both).

The QC’s have a smallish opening, but are designed so your ear sits inside without touching anything.

  • +1

The white ones don't show finger prints as much compared to black

    • -5

      That's what she said

  • +8

Just made the upgrade to these and I'm pretty happy with them. Although if you have the QC 35 it's not a huge upgrade unless you want all your electronics to be USB C.

    • The only loss was the less noise cancel option. The new aware one's affect seems somewhere between this and basically being off.

    • Cheers, I just asked this question before I read your post.

  • +7

Since when did &$30 off become a great deal in OZB? The RRP is $339 literally everywhere.

    • +5

Historically it's a pretty good price to be fair. RRP seems to be higher than $339, just the big tech retailers are selling for $339

  • +1

i returned mine unopened.. too many reviews stating that it can't handle windy environments (amplifies wind).

also.. a little concerning is my bose soundlink mini 2. I think the BMS dies if you try and diy replace the battery cells (rather than entire pack).
so I was worried bose may be one of these companies that's thwarting right-to-repair efforts..

I couldn't find tutorials for DIY battery replacement for the QC 45 (or many parts), but it's only a year since it's release.
I'm hoping this isn't something they've made difficult..

  • +4

These are $305 with JB staff pricing, so this is a great price

  • +2

damn it! so close to the magical $300 mark for tax !

  • The mic is really quiet compared to the xm5s I find them unusable for teams calls in a noisy environment

    • I used them the other day in my noisy office and no one complained about the sound volume from my mic. Very happy with mine so far.

    • People don't get that they all have pros and cons.. not one pair is perfect.

Depends how big your head and ears are as well.
I had the qc25, the Sony's are way better, both going to hurt after hours flying. Most headphones have clamping issues unless nice open back home sets (massive but breathable and comfortable).

  • oh damn didnt expect to see a step up from qc35ii

  • +2

It was for $305 few days ago

    • +1

Time machine? $309 is still pretty good.

  • +1

thanks, bought them in white now too, had black already

    • +1

      are they that good?

      • +1

No. Just had some room left in my cupboard.

  • Temped but I have QC35 and still going strong.
Very comfy. Apart from peeling earpads nothing wrong. Trying to convince myself here :)

    • You can just replace the earpads…

  • What does perks mean?

    • +3

Pretty much JB membership, it is free to join and you get discounts every once in a while.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/698451

Everyone who joined from yesterday or earlier (with verified phone number and subscribed to perks) would have received an email today with a $30 off code (min spend $250). There are also a lot of people in the megathread giving codes away too.

      • Thanks a lot! I just bought!

  • How is Anker Soundcore q45 compared to these? Have really good reviews.
    On special for$165?

  • Anyone had issues with the sound dropping in and out on QC35's? It's a PITA. I barely get more than 5m and it's pathetic. Sounds quality when it works is great, but I'm not a fan of the poor distance. I'm waiting to see if it's more environmental when I move though.

  • I 'upgraded' from QC35i to QC45, they were a huge disappointment, I returned them and am very happy with a second hand set of QC35ii.

…bear in mind there’s no way to disable the active noise-cancelling without enabling Aware mode on the QC 45. At least with the Bose QC 35 II, which lacks an Aware mode, you can turn off ANC and enjoy your music.
    AndroidAuthority

imo they're unsuitable for use in a light breeze of if you have a fan on your desk.

It is normal to have some crackling in excessively noisy environments… we recommend doing your best to move away from the loud noises. For example if you are flying choosing a seat further away from the engines will reduce this effect.
    Bose website

Not sure if I just had a dud set of QC45 but I found a lot of everyday noises in the workplace must be considered 'excessively noisy' by Bose.

Happy to answer any Qs comparing QC35i, QC35ii and QC45!

  • guys, I adore my QC35ii, the only complaint is that I don't need NC at home and every time I turn them on I have to double click the button to turn off NC. Has something changed in this regard on 45 (NC off by default) ?
(or if you know how to do that on 35 I'd appreciate if you share)

    thanks

    • If it's for music I'd consider getting a pair of wired open headphones to compliment the ANC portables. You'd get a great improvement in soundstage, separation, more breathable (cooler).. kind of more airy and less closed in. Just an idea.

If they are anything like the qc25 I had, they sound way worse with the ANC turned off.

  • Has anyone compared the QC 45s and Sony XM4/5s to Jabra Elite 85H - in terms of comfort (ear fit), sound, etc. I have Jabra Elite 85H for the past 2 years and they are brilliant ! I also have the XM3 and I believe the Jabra is comparable to the best.
