Playing High on Life currently on my Series S, soo good! don't forget game pass if you pick one of these up
If you're desperate for one of these check out Facebook Marketplace. I did this at the suggestion of commenters on previous posts and picked a near new one up for $250. I don't know why so many of them are being sold but hey, turned out good for me. I put the money I saved toward an external SSD which you WILL need for this if you want to install more than 3 games lol
$250! Now we're talking!
I know I'm being lazy, but are external drives proprietary, or can you buy any external drive and it will work?
I think most people would get a Samsung T5/T7. That's what I'm doing for my One S
External drive will work for games up to Xbox One. Series X/S games require the proprietary storage expansion card.
Jeez. Just checked and $349 for the expansion card at JB. That puts a dampner on things.
EDIT: actually reading Nugs comment below, I reckon it could be manageable.
Still, thanks for the response :)
We've had an S for a couple of weeks now.
can play non X/S versions form external providing there is not an X/S version available. The box will try and update if try and play a game that is not up to date when there is an X/S version available. This can be avoided by going offline too assuming game function not inhibited (if game still functions i.e. can't play seasons of forza horizon because it's internet driven)
You can store games on any drive, but can only play X/S versions from the internal (or proprietary external).
Installed games can be shifted back and forth as needed to keep internal space

This sums it up nicely. I bought a matching white Xbox-branded Seagate 2TB HDD soon after getting the S last year, but I imagine pretty much any decent HDD/SSD would work for storing games and playing non-X|S titles.
I don't know why so many of them are being sold
In some cases at least, probably because many have upgraded to Series X now that they’re seemingly in plentiful supply and can be had cheaper than RRP thanks to promotions (e.g. Amex $150 credit). Many people would’ve bought the Series S early last year when the X was almost impossible to find in stock, and/or to see what the fuss was about with these next gen consoles.
I mean, I'm a huge supporter for the series S as well, and I'm considering selling it myself.
The main problem for me is the lack of games that makes me excited for it. Furthermore, the lack of accessibility or controller remapping options, makes me want to use my pc instead. I haven't really used it for a month now, even though I'm still on gamepass.
i got jb to price match the 1tb ssd as the 512gb one a few weeks back not sure if they fked it themselves or just seen they were still profiting but worth a shot.
Can anyone tell me if Xbox Series S players can play with xbox series X players? Specifically, for bf2042, gotham knights, borderlands, halo etc.
Yes, it will work fine. Both consoles use Xbox Live for the online play service.
Im in the market for one of these, can anyone note how they are speed wise vs the x? I want to buy one for second home overseas.
PM me if anyone is keen to sell or swap for a new galaxy watch 5 40mm im advertising in classifieds…
Many games run at the same frame rate as the XSX, but the resolution will be far lower.
You don't need the extra res IMO, it's not like you are staring at jaggies
