A nice bonus with these is they are apple home kit compatible, which is pretty rare at this price point.

Officeworks had these when I was looking last night. Same price. Also on special (or maybe clearance) for the 2 pack.

  • Anyone know why they're reduced to clear? I thought the brand is okay

    • I have around 6 of them, havent had an issue. Using them with google home.

      • Yeah that's why I'm surprised to see the mark down. They're normally pricey. A hunch that they probably trying to get rid of the less popular ones like B22?

        • They recently changed packaging. Maybe it’s old stock.

E: nvm this is already new packaging.

Likely related to the fact that the company that owns this tech/brand has gone into receivership. The Lifx brand though is likely to be sold off to another company and should live on.

As said already, company has been acquired by a company from USA that is pretty unknown in the Australian market.

Some of their gear has been outta stock for a while, particularly in Australia.

The existing hardware and LIFXs software is really good, it's just a bit of an uncertain situation for those who want to buy in to a smart light brand.

Hopefully it all goes well because their stuff is top notch.

I found Lifx's software to be terrible and their connectivity to be unreliable. I do love their hardware though (albeit not enough to ever buy another Lifx globe).

Back in the day, when I first got them in around 2012, they were magical.

Oh that's a shame, I found their software so much better than most other smart light brands and never had any connectivity issues with LIFX, though I had loads of problems with other vendors.

The lights are okish but can be flakey when setting up. I've had quite a few DOAs but they were replaced by LIFX support. The app is awful.

  • I shared my poor long term LIFX experience in the comments of the last deal.

TLDR: After 2 years the bulb will not turn off and sometimes not turn on as scheduled. It's not a WiFi issue, seems to be a bulb hardware issue because it worked fine for 2 years without interupption and no amount of new firmware updates fixes it. It is now permanently on a mechanical bunnings timer, glad it still works this way because it remembers hue and brightness even with power cut.

    • I have some WIFI issues with the LIFX Colour A19 E27 (It also NEVER RESPONDS TO GOOGLE WITHIN like 1 mins on turning on wall switch), on other hand Hue bulbs Never ever a single issue (may be just that its a little less bright than LIFX but that's all)

      • Yeah I have had the same WiFi system for 2+ years and a bunch of other 2.4Ghz devices which have no problem and stay connected.
2 years functioning lifespan is not what I had in mind when purchasing the LIFX LED bulb.

I expected it to work almost as long as the LED's still work, so what's the average lifespan of an LED bulb?? 50,000 hours or 10+ years with moderate use I thought.
If other components fail before then it was badly designed, and I do not want to waste it because the LED's still work.
So luckily I use it as a night light for going to the toilet which only requires it to be on scheduled the same hours everyday and the bunnings mechanical timer can do that. For those who have it integrated in smart homes I think it will be even more frustrating.

  • I have one for many years. It works fine with its own app. But in Google's Home app, quite often, it's shown as off when it's actually on, and on when it's actually off. Very annoying. Had a firmware upgrade a few months ago and the issue still persists. I also have a few Wiz bulbs and ceiling lights connected to Google Home app and had no problems at all

  • I have like 5 in my house, non homekit, been using for like 5+ years plus and still going strong.

  • Newbie query - how do these compare to the V-TAC smart globes (from Costco)? The one diff I see is the V-TACs can change colour as well…
