      I thought a director's cut implied a version of something that they couldn't release due to something like studio interference. Like the Snyder cut of Justice League.

        Studio interference could still mean time constraints. They want it out the door to meet a deadline they’ve set, and that’s what gets released, mostly not to the complete satisfaction of the director, and once enough time has passed, where money has been made to show an interest, then some of that money then can be used to give more time again to include those things the director wanted without time constraints.
