I Got Scammed on eBay and Have Been Refused a Refund. Any Help?

I bought a Shure SM7B microphone from eBay at this store

According to its description, there is a manufacturer's warranty of 5 years and to get this warranty I had to contact them. Six months later after purchase, the connection on the microphone between microphone itself and my Rode PSA-1 (Microphone arm) broke.

So I went to contact the manufacturer through eBay. After a week I tried again and then after that a third time which was weird since supposedly, they should have around a two business day response time. I decided to contact Shure which then they told me it was most likely fake cause it wasn't a verified seller and there were various inconsistencies with the product itself including which one of them was that the warranty should only be for 2 years.

I then took it up with eBay where they told me they couldn't give me my money back since it wasn't within their 30day full refund policy and all they could do was flag their company. Could anyone help me with this situation and get my money back?

TLDR: I bought a counterfeit Shure SM7B off eBay, it broke and I cannot get it refunded or fixed.

How much cheaper was it than RRP?

    Refund through PayPal?

Edit - looked at the store, they just sell crappy Chinese garbage, what made you think they would be selling genuine Shure microphones alongside that crap?

This. Multiple red flags on this store:

      • sells lots of random crap
      • low volume - 3.1K items sold
      • low feedback quantity (1246) - yes, it's positive (99.5%), but there's so little of it…
      • seller located in China

The only thing I'd even consider buying from this store is some of the aforementioned cheap random crap. And even then I wouldn't have high hopes for it…

You might be out of luck, chargeback has a time limit of 120 days and paypal is 180 days.

eBay appears to be full of counterfeit products. Bought some board games last week from FleaBay local seller with a high rating, and they were counterfeit (thankfully I had the original game to compare). I identified the issue straight away and eBay's return process was pretty easy. I think they are happy to help you in the first 30 days but otherwise they wash their hands of it.

When spending that much, why not do the smallest amount of research?!? It's well know eBay is full of fakes (from electronics to shoes) :/

Genuine Shure products only available via authorised retailers :/

Very little in the way of recourse after 6 months …

  • So, sounds like you bought a non genuine shure, if shure can't verify it.
Paypal is your only avenue, if the seller won't help you.
If you did send it back to Shure, they will look at it and know straight away it was a fake, aiming it is.
There are dodgy sellers everywhere, and i got scammed on kickstarter recently. (By a product suggested on ozbargain). Check out swamp.net.au for decent copies. Otherwise visit a local music store no wonder Gerry is crying poor, and can't afford to pay staff decent wages.

Unfortunately the seller is registered in China so unlikely that they have a local company you could take to xCAT.

If you have confirmation from Shure that the item is fake you could report the item/seller to eBay as they're in breach of the counterfeit item policy https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-…

Don't believe Shure, they're BS. They'll call anything a counterfeit to palm you off because it's a grey market item.

Unless you know it's a counterfeit due to product quality then it's probably not and just a grey import. Drop shipping is popular on Ebay and the seller is trying to shirk responsibility.

eBay search returns 187 results for SM7B's in "Brand New Condition"

Taking a quick glance, 90% are fakes including your listing

Because 6 months have past, this is an expensive lesson for you as not much can be done

Amazon all time low is around $460 so wait for that to come around again to buy a legit Shure

Or better yet, buy a RODE and support Australian manufacturing

    • Gessus you are right.
I have no idea about microphone but i searched and the sellers name are horrific its imposible they are genuine

  • I’m not shure if you’ll get your money back

Why did the Irishman pay full price for his microphone directly from the manufacturer?

To be sure, to be shure.

    • +3

6 months is a long way down the Røde to realise!

    • I think OP is still UnShure

  • $400 is too much to spend at eBay

    • +2

Not really, plenty of legit stores. Just don't spend too much on some stores you don't know.

  • Ping amazon experts… is there fake stuff on amazon au?

    • Yep by some newly launched third party stores with long obscure names and no ratings. The prices are way too cheap. You see items like a Intel CPU selling for $250 less than what everyone else sells it for.
