DF64P/DF64E Coffee Grinder US$445/US$480 Shipped (~A$658/A$710) @ DF64 Coffee Grinder

131

These are the updated versions of the classic DF64, with some significant improvements offering single dose capability out of the box as well as timed-dose grinding via a hopper on the DF64E. I've been using the DF64E purchased from them for about 3 months and have enjoyed it (upgraded from Breville SGP)

These are a limited time deal shipped from Asia. I think the stated RRP on the website is a bit overblown but for comparison Espresso outlet sells the DF64E for $448 and doesn't ship to Australia. Only place to get them locally seem to be $1149 each from Coffeeparts and currently out of stock, so a significant discount from retail.

These are a bit more expensive than the Eureka Mignon Specialita grey market from ECS in Europe, but offer a few improvements in terms of single dosing as well as aftermarket burr compatibility. Note that they are espresso only grinders unless you want to open them up and set them manually. Probably similar caveats apply with regards to after sales service and warranty whilst buying internationally.

  • Wow surprised SSP burrs cost so much as an extra. Is that standard pricing?

    • +1

Yep. I think its comparable to buying it separately and seeing how reviews of the stock burrs are pretty good there's probably no need to upgrade for the avreage coffee snob. Just get it alter if you want them.

    • SSP burrs cost around $300.

Is that paint flaking off in picture 9??

Good price but honestly, I heard a new model releasing soon - HB64 so..

    • Yah I have almost pressed the buy button as they are available on alibaba right now, have you heard good things?

    • The HB64 looks to be more of an update on the DF64 standard. The DF64P is a substantially different design.

From what I can see the HB64 will have more adjustment range (being similar to the DF64), adjustable RPM and (probably the most important thing for me) a better positioned power cable/ standard kettle cable design.

For me, with the tool-less cleaning, if its anything near as difficult to clean as the DF64 I think the DF64P is better.

  • There's black and white options but the model pictured is grey?

    • I think it's just the lighting. Mine is quite a bright white in real life.

      • Ah ok. They need to get somebody better with the product photos. Those camera angles are terrible.

        • I putchased from them recently. I ordered black then sent them an email saying i couldn't work out how to order carbon fibre and they sent me carbon fibre instead. Im sure you can do the same with the grey or any other colour.

Is that like a commercial product, or something for coffee douches?

  • alternative brewing selling it for $799 with 1 yr Aust warranty and Aust plug.

    • +2

That is the DF64 standard not the p or e models above.

      • yes true, the DF64 from Asia cost AUD630 + 3% bank surcharge, so saving of $153 for the no warranty and no Au plug.

I have purchased a DF64E through these guys and have had an absolute nightmare. Please avoid at all costs!
I negging this because of the seller not the poster.

    • What happened?

      • +3

Whilst the grinder was great to use, per dose I was loosing about 1-2g per dose.
Then I noticed lots of grounds coming out the bottom of the grinder.

I contacted DF64.com and they were aware of grinders shipping without the chute seal.
They wanted me to repair the grinder myself. They wanted me to remove the electronic screen and bottom, clean out all the grounds and they'll send a chute seal.
Whilst I'm capable of doing that, I don't think it's reasonable to get people to repair there brand new grinders. Also coffee through the grinder would attract moisture and reduce the life of the grinder.
You may get a good one but there help is very poor. On the DF64 forums other resellers seem to take more ownership of faults.

        • So…awesome QC eh?

        • That’d have to void warranty as well, yeh?

          • @0jay: I would say warranty through theses guys is non existent.

        • That sucks mate, sorry to hear. Logistics of sending such a heavy item to and from Asia will always be a nightmare, but you would think they might offer you a nice partial refund or something for your trouble with an item that was DOA.

@Save Medicare: I cant even tell you how much the Mrs loved this debacle. It once again proves- always buy local where possible.
TBH I'm pretty devo'd on how this has paned out. I saved up a while to drop $600+ on a grinder. Plus I'm still waiting on the replacement chute nearly 2 months now, at least they replied to me. I assumed once they had my money good luck on hearing anything.
Just putting my 2 cents in, I didn't want any of my fellow OzB getting burnt.

@trowlz: I bought one recently too. I haven't had any issues except with postage. It said 4-6 days delivery and they still hadn't posted it after a week. They did post it as soon as they responded to my email a couple of days later though but they used a postage service called Amerax who received it in their sydney warehouse and it didn't move for over a week. I was worries that it was a scam company and i jad lost my money but then it rocked up. Havent had any issues. Also, i changed over the declumper which you need to take it apart as you have describer. It is really easy to do. Hope that helps you feel a bit more secure.

              • @haggertm: They sent mine via Fedex. Received 4 days later. Total 5 days from the order. I changed the declumper too.

                • @carlJack: Man this company seems to be all over the place haha. Im still glad i got it but was sweating that it may have been a fraudulent website or something.

  • Thought on this or niche zero for espresso?

    • +1

An extremely polarizing point of discussion you've brought up.

DF64 (original and these new ones) are renown for their flat burrs which allows lighter (medium to light roast) beans to shine. Typically gives a cleaner taste to the espresso due to the uniform way flat burrs grind.

The Niche zero is popular for it's near zero coffee grind retention and easy of use (workflow) but it uses conical burrs which produces drink with more texture, slightly more muddled/more bodied shot. Works great with medium to darker roasts.

Ultimately it comes down personally preference, personal tastes and personal workflow.

I'm gunning for a Niche as I like a drink with more texture and full body flavours as well as the ability to switch between multiple beans in a day without having to redial in.

      • Thanks for the replies! I actually own a niche and have been using it for the past year but a friend is building out an espresso setup mainly for milk drinks so I've been exploring the grinder options in the 500-800 range. I managed to get my niche brand new for about 1000 and have been quite happy with it, but I'm always on the hunt for bigger and better things :P

        • I absolutely LOVE the look of the white NZ, by far the most beautiful grinder on the market.

If I was in the market now, I'd get the the DF83 from Coffee Parts. It's quite a bit higher than the range you have, but not much more than getting a NZ imported. Probably can get it far cheaper importing yourself, but something I avoid.

The Lagom Mini is a good option if you'd ever consider taking out of the kitchen…

        • Between 500 and 800, its probably Specialita ( Espresso). If looking for both Filter and Espresso nothing can beat DF64 in that price range.

    • I own a black Niche for a few years, used daily but at 1.7k+ these days it is overpriced for what it is. It's almost 2023. I wouldn't go back to it unless u like that simple workflow. Flavor profile is pretty average to be honest, flat burrs and speed control are the way to go if I'm considering one now YMMV

You can consider Eureka single dose as well, they have 2 models:

EUREKA MIGNON ZERO COFFEE GRINDER - euro 327 delivered (AUD 510)

EUREKA ORO MIGNON SINGLE DOSE ESPRESSO GRINDER - euro 499 + del

    • Lance Hedrick recently reviewed the Femobook A68 and gave it a pretty good review. Looks better than the DF64 (IMO) and a similar price bracket ($765aud). Also a lot cheaper than the Niche.

On the down side, it's an new product and not out till at least Feb 2023.

I wish I had the money to throw at some of these products but just like the Niche, i'll wait, people will love it, the price will skyrocket, and I'll kick myself for not jumping on it early.

    • What sort of coffee you would like to drink? NZ is a conical grinder so the flavour profile is mostly caramel and choclatey with good body. DF64 has flat burr so the clarity is better ( good for fruity light roasted coffee beans) but body much less. Another aspect to consider is the workflow. NZ has the best and the easiest of the workflow compared to DF64 where you would probably need to mod a few things and deal with static to get the best out the grinder. Having said that I think having both DF64 and NZ is a dream setup for me. FYI i have DF64.

You can get the DF64P through Amazon from MiiCoffee for $739 with next day delivery available.

I got one but the grind adjustment was really stiff so I returned it. Return process was easy through Amazon.

    • what kind of power cable did it have? AU?

    • On sale at $699 now on Amazon!

      • +1

it's because i hit them up on amazon and told them that it's much cheaper on their own website than on amazon so they dropped their price. i bought one, will report back in january…won't receive it before I goto the bahamas. I hear there is a large mansion that has just been listed and it's going cheap…i will check this out, may be a (oz)bargain

  • Another one looks very similar to the DF64E from Amazon for $529 Grinder

    • Don't know about this one. Would rather buy from an established seller personally. $529 is also just improbably cheap. If you want to risk it for the biscuit, you can, but I wouldn't.

      • I am happy with my Eureka Specialita since a year ago.
Yes, this seller is new on Amazon and has no review, a bit suss! I guess if its scam or dodgy item, you can get refund from Amazon, but may be not worth the hassle, if you had to wait few weeks for an action..

  • @redrich2000 who did they send the grinder to you through? a courier company i assume?
