Different states/regions based on chosen store with different stock.

        • Ah didn't know that, will update to Vic only unless people in other states can confirm.

      • Clearance product and each state will have different stock levels.
Out of stock for Sydney NSW and Cairns QLD.

      • Yep, looks like In Stock from a Vic point of view, but not for those in Brisbane.

  • out of stock for me but otherwis e good deal

  • I seem to have one in my basket still (in Brisbane). Oops…

    What an ugly camera.

    • I like it.

Would go nice with my Hot Wheels media player.

Agreed, this is the kind of camera you give as a present to someone you don't like

Brisbane buyers - Kmart at Chermside had the Pentax K-x for a similar price (sub $500). Saw that on Thursday night, 5 July. I know its the older model but they are virtually the same spec. But only in black, not red!

    • +1

I'd rather the red one. At least it will take faster pictures.

The K-R and K-X are not virtually the same spec though both good cameras. The K-R is a better model than the K-X. Here are some of the differences, based on a quick Google. I have had the K-R for a year (black, not red) and its a great camera.

      Screen size 3.0" vs 2.7"
Screen resolution 920k dots vs 230k dots
Light sensitivity 12,800 ISO vs 6,400 ISO
Startup delay 300 ms vs 600 ms
Continuous shooting 6 fps vs 4.7 fps
Battery life 470 shots vs 420 shots

That IS virtually the same spec. Have a quick Google and compare a K-r with something like a Canon d5 mark 3 and THEN you can tell me that they are not virtually the same spec. None of the things in your list make the K-r a "significantly" different camera to the K-x. I notice you left out the things that the K-x does better than the K-r such as:

Supports 24p - Get that real film feel.
Slightly lower noise at high ISO 811 ISO vs 755 ISO, the K-x has a slight edge (0.1 f-stops) in low noise, high ISO performance.
Smaller 123x92x68 mm vs 125x97x68 mm, around 10% smaller.
Slightly less shutter lag 97 ms vs 105 ms, around 10% less delay when taking photos.
        Slightly lighter 580 g vs 598 g.
        Wider dymanmic range.
        In-camera HDR.

        BTW, I don't have a either a Kx or a K-r.

        • Both do In-Camera HDR and the K-r is better at it, especially when handheld, because of the micro-alignment process…
(Also note that neither offer full HD progressive, 720 only, and that the Pentax K-r does 25P which is technically "better" in terms of information gathering but, in practical terms, unnoticeable to the average person)

        • "25P which is technically "better" in terms of information gathering but, in practical terms, unnoticeable to the average person". The 24p must be noticable because so many camera review sites pick up on it as "good" feature.

Anyway, if the K-r is available for the same price as the K-x then go for it …. otherwise slip into Kmart and pick up a K-x as they are definately a bargain. And bargains are what this site is about. THAT's why I mentioned that the K-x was available cheap alternative with similar specs.

I have this camera and its great. Good price here too

Great camera at great price - those who didnt get this deal, might be worth checking with major stores for price match.

  • Just checked. No stock in NSW… sad… That price is too good to be real..

    • That web comparison is a joke. The sensor in the Panasonic is 1/2.3 compared to the K-r's APS-C size sensor. The Panasonic is not even in the same class as the K-r.
A more realistic comparison for the Panasonic would be a Canon Powershot.

I'm not a pro, but my point was there are many non-SLR options in this price range with better features and image quality. The sensor size is not everything.

        • Short answer - No. Sensor size is everything when comparing something like a 1/2.3 vs an APS-C sensor when they are both in DSLR type bodies. Yes, the Panasonic is feature packed but it will never have the image quality of the K-r. Do some pixel peeking at dpreview.com, I'm impressed with the Panasonic's sharpness but the colour saturation is missing because their are just not enough pixels on the chip to carry all the information.
