Plant Minding Service in Melbourne

Does anyone know of any plant minding services near the melbourne CBD?

I'll be going away on a holiday for a month during the summer, and have a couple of potted plants that i'd worry would dry out while i'm gone.

Basically, just a place i can drop off the plants and they'll water it every couple of days.

If it's just water, it'll probably be cheaper and better to get a device that has a "timed release". That'll be reusable for your next holidays too.

    • that might end up being the best solution, i'll look into it

    Airtasker?

    • I did briefly look into that, seems most watering services are in home; and i'm not overly keen on letting strangers into my apartment while i'm away

      • Fair enough. I thought that may have been the case (or they were for private medicinal use).

    Neighbour? Friend? Family?

    • Family is about an hours drive away, and i don't really know my neighbors so it's a bit weird to ask them to look after a couple of plants for me.

Good opportunity to get to know your neighbors!

Could you drop the plants at your family’s place and collect them when u return?

        I agree with Boioioioi

Most people will be happy to look after a few plants, just give them instructions.

  • If it's just a couple of pots, can you leave them with a friend or family who can help?

Otherwise, you may be able to find a gardener's service through your local magazine/community/advertisement. Maybe even ask if you can leave the pots with them so you don't have random strangers entering your place.

The anti social hermit method is soil moisture sensors and a smart tap with irrigation kit. Kept my tomatos and chillis going while I was working overseas for a month, watering based on weather forecast and soil moisture levels via home assistant.
    Parts needed:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/LinkTap-Wireless-Water-Timer-Gatew…
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Gardena-13000-20-Watering-Starter-…
I used these but they need the weather station unit…probably can find stadalone solution if preferred:

Alternatively if not an anti social hermit, you could take the other posts suggestions :)

    • whoa, that must've been some setup.

      • Hey like zem chillimatoes!

How many plants and how big are we talking here?

    • there's 4 of them, not that big; about 20-30cm?

  • Are you certain they even need watering that often? My plants only get watered every 2-3 weeks. Otherwise their roots rot

    • you're right, one of them's a succulent that doesn't need much watering; every couple days is a bit of an exaggeration i guess.

Get a bucket of water (or 2), cut fabric into a ribbon, bury one end in the pot plant and put the other end inside the bucket. I used this for a one month period last summer.

    • interesting idea; i might end up resorting to something like that too.

      • Test that it works before you go away, just in case. Other alternative (if they definitely need watering that often) is to leave them in the bathtub with a few cm of water in it

  • Just leave them outside in the rain.

  • I'm happy to help in East Brunswick anytime after 20th Jan :)
