NBA League Pass Indian Rupee ₹1999 (~A$35.66, Indian VPN Required for Signup) @ NBA

230

I was able to add the premium subscription to my existing account with VPN connected, and am now able to watch without a VPN.
Connecting with a 'Smart' VPN showed the subscription fees in Swiss Francs (CHF), but once I connected with a traditional VPN to an Indian location it worked fine.

Steps:

  1. Create account
  2. Connect to India VPN location
  3. Open NBA site in incognito mode and sign in
  4. Sign up to service
  5. Watch Lakers lose (again) on any device in the house!

Turkey and Argentina was around $30 AUD when I sign up at beginning of the season, you may check them up too.

    • I could not get the Turkey site to work, it kept showing the currency in Swiss Francs (CHF) and wasn't any cheaper. That might have been my VPN providers fault though.

  • I thought NBA shut this down? I couldn't renew my indian subscription at the start of this season

      it's back, baby.
just a temporary payment processing issue.

    Pelicans looking good this season.

    • I have a feeling that they will decline as the season progresses, they lack experience.

I just tried Turkey for ~$26. I guess you wait and see what happens when the 7 days trial finishes?

It's back to normal, most of the people tried at October/November got charge in correct currency/amount.

    On a different note… APP IS SHIT…

You cant disable closed captions on the ios app. The button toggles but does nothing.

Their Android TV app is trash too. When you choose a live game and choose the ‘watch live’ option (as opposed to ‘play from beginning’) it still plays from the beginning and you have to fast forward to catch up to the live timeline.

      • the app functionality has gone backwards.

I cant seem to watch condensed games and also encounter the same issue as you.

      • It really depends on the device.
It was terrible on my Hisense tv (2021) but works perfectly on my Chromecast with Google TV or FIRE TV 4K

      • Also have to press hide scores every time. Shits me if I watch a game that's finished and I see the final score show up 1st thing.

I do like the app playback function more than the old one. You can minimize video now and multitask.

  • Which VPN did you for India OP?

    • Getflix VPN works

    • I used SmartDNSProxy.com and connected to their Mumbai endpoint (Bangalore didn't work).

  • I tried 5 or so VPNs only a month ago and had no luck, all came back as blocked IPs. Anyone have a specific VPN thay works? Most companies seem to have no, or only virtual indian servers after the Indian internet laws changed?
Im not an expert though, any advice on how to get it going would be appreciated!

    • Try Turkey or Argentina, they are cheaper - around $30 AUD

      • I couldn't get Turkey to work though, it kept coming up with Swiss Francs (CHF) as the currency.

    • I used SmartDNSProxy.com and connected to their Mumbai endpoint (Bangalore didn't work, I think this is a virtual server).

  • Is there an Android TV app for this? I'll grab it if I can run it through my Nvidia Shield

  • So they changed the T&C for India then. In the past Indian League Pass requires you to be connected to India VPN while watching.

    • the new league pass rules ban the use of VPN while watching games .. so people can't avoid restrictions.

  • For iPhone users

Follow this method. No VPN required. Just buy Apple gift cards from Amazon India using your Aussie Amazon account. Links on the post.

  • It didnt work for me, tried the 7 day free trial. You still need to turn on location when watching on the app. I connected using hotspot shield vpn, whats a traditional vpn?

    • My 7 day trial had already expired before I signed up, don't know if that makes a difference.
What I mean by 'traditional' VPN is that the provider has end-points actually located in the country you want to appear as. My VPN service also offers what they call 'smart' end-points which have an IP at that location, but no actual servers.

  • Maybe someone can help. I have an Argentina league pass. I've logged into my GoogleTV Chromecast NBA app and I can't access my league pass. it wants me to pay. Anyone know how to get around it?

    • just start watching games, forget the prompt for a subscription.
as long as on the PC you can see you have a subscription it should be fine.

      • This ^
Also wish Microsoft would remove the ads once you have the paid subscription - did we have ads in the old app?

        • i haven't seen any ads, but I do use an adblocker

  • Obviously with a 7 day trial they won't charge straight away so does anyone know what happens when the free trial is up?

    • usually they charge
      but sometimes they don't.

      lots of options ;)

      • I guess I should clarify that at the end of the 7 day period they realise I am streaming from Aus and not India whether they will charge Aus or Indian or just cancel the sub completely?

        • they'll charge the amount agreed to in Indian Rupee, but converted to AU
I've had subs from South Africa, Argentina and Turkey.
They know where you are streaming from, it doesn't matter.

          • @bohn: I can connect via desktop but in the app it asks me to start free trial and attempts to bill my Google Pay even though I am using the account with a subscription. Do you know a way around this or whether I just proceed with the free trial again as I already have a sub?

            • +1

@shaughan12: Just ignore the prompts in the app.
If you have a subscription (as shown on the pc) then you'll still be able to use all the features of the app. Just sign in and watch games
