You might have noticed all air conditioners and fridges became "inverter" over the last 5 years. That's the equivalent motor type to "DC". Much more energy efficient motor types but needing more power electronics - more expensive upfront, lower running costs.
This fan objectively sucks. The one I purchased requires you to change the region in the app to China in order for it to function as a true "smart" device. It is unbalanced and wobbles, and honestly for the money is dogshit compared to the Xiaomi one I have. Avoid at all costs, and save up for the Xiaomi one with the battery.
I am still using it, right now in fact, but I'll be almost glad when it dies and I get to toss it out. One of my worst purchases off Ozbargain yet. And I have a drawer full of Eneloops.

I just use my existing Xiaomi app and no need to change region.

I have no problem, no unbalanced and wobbles, I am not sure why some have this problem, check to make sure you installed it correctly.
Anyway, I also have Xiaomi, yes Xiaomi is better.
Perhaps the batch I bought it from, Aldi sourced as "China Mainland" (I've had this one for about a year). It's a known problem, as is the unbalanced nature of the fan.
which xiaomi fan are you guys referring to? Is it a smart fan? link please
@ozbargainerlife1: This one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-smartmi-pedestal…
I have had mine since Nov 2020
Can potentially postpone by a year here in Melbourne as summer looks unlikely :-/
Just wait 2 hours and it will change
Just share my experience with this fans and others I’ve purchased
Viomi- Build quality is just okay, it come with remote with 4 speed controls, app’s control is okay with 100 speed, very quiet at low speed to mid speed only. Max airflow is okay but not wow.
Xiaomi 2- much better build quality but no remote, using the same apps as Viomi but control layout is totally different and much better.
Kogan premium DC fan (new)- build quality is between Viomi and Xiaomi 2, stronger airflows at max speed (12 speed?) and come with remote.
Kogan premium DC fan (old)- Build quality is similar to xiaomi 2, 30-40 speeds, max airflow similar or stronger than new model. Better remote than new model.
Cheap basic AC fans- it will get the things done. Just less features and less speed control. My thoughts, if you want fans with remote control, low speed/quite at sleeping time, timer ect. Probably just go for this Viomi. Even this is not the best DC fans but this is one of the cheapest DC fans with most features and remote. If you willing to spend $100+, there are better choices. If you don’t care all the features or you satisfy with 3 speed? Get the cheapest fans. Kogan premium DC fans (old) is pretty good, but no longer available.
which one would you recommend for $100+
Not much stock at Ferntree Gully. Managed to get 2, see how this goes.
Just picked one up and this is my 1st DC "smart" fan and I'm actually impressed by it. I have 1 Dyson pedestal and 2 Dyson tower fans so I can compare.
Viomi plastics are better than I thought. Not great not terrible. It's definitely better than those buy and throw fans from Kmart. Base is sturdy and does not wobble during operation. App is easy to set up with my existing Mi app and no region change required like someone mentioned earlier. The Viomi is definitely not as loud as the Dysons at full speed. Air output is more or less the same when both are at 100%. I'll be using the Viomi for indoor bike trainer so noise is not an issue for me as I wear noise cancelling headphones.
If both Viomi and Dyson are at 50% speed, the Viomi is a lot quieter and more suitable to run in living rooms and bedrooms though nowhere as good looking.
Dyson pedestal fan's height at its lowest setting is about 100cm from the ground to the center of the fan and highest setting is 120cm. The Viomi is fixed at only about 72cm so keep that in mind. My wife said the Viomi looks disproportionate and awkward.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the Viomi. For $70 I have no complains and would buy again.
Agree with above. Also bought 2 yesterday, partly as a precaution in case one a dud. More than happy with it. Noise, airflow, features, appearance, setup all equal worthwhile purchase. Keeping both, would recommend.
Bought two, one was great, the other had a distinct rattle. The advantage of buying from Aldi is that we took the rattler back and swapped it, no questions asked, and the replacement is whisper-quiet.
Still working on the Google Home integration so it can become part of the bedtime/morning routines over summer…
Anyone having issues trying to sync it to google home, every device i have from Xiaomi is there, but the fan. On the Mi App its there though.
Bought one and keeps rattling… Damn it
Wow awesome, thanks op. I just popped into Aldi and saw these, went to add to ozbargain, and saw I was very late to the game. Great fan. I use these in a van setup, wired straight to the 12v battery. It's perfect for my needs and has more than enough airflow for a small to medium campervan/caravan. Low energy use, extremely quiet, app so I can control it from bed… I'm still waiting for a good deal on the xiaomi ver with battery, but for the price and convenience of grabbing locally, I couldn't pass it up.
What app do you use for this
Xiaomi home
Has anyone been able to setup on google home?
i've had them last 10 years.. i stand by all other points made above
if yours last 1 year, just get a refund under warranty?
Does anybody else have an issue where the fan wont stay at 100% speed and dip to 99%?

In a nutshell, much much quieter and much more energy efficient using on average 80% less energy.
If you find out the technicalities on why, please come back and let us know
