  • Having just gotten my first (cheap) mechanical keyboard recently, I think this is a good price.

(Yesterday, I ordered some Akko jelly purple switches to replace the cheap red switches that came in my "MageGee" amazon board… seems like Akko is delivering value for money, from what I have read/heard)

    • How is the MageGee keyboard holding up? I almost bought one myself. I don't want to deal with Akko and their switch names.

      • +1

Well I've only used it for a few days, but so far so good. That said, I did a little modding already to get some better sounds out of it - used some of the packing foam that came with the board to go into the tray under the PCB, used tape and foam around the tray so the fit was tighter, used vaseline on the stabilisers to reduce a bit of the clacking. However, I'm looking forward to getting the Akko switches and some PBT key caps to improve the sound further.

Was on sale since Black Friday - great price for one of the best starting 1800 boards. Got the Akko PC98B instead from PCCG even though it's not on sale since I need something wireless and had store credit. If I were to buy a wired board it would be the YUNZII Keynovo IF98 - was on sale for $150 on Amazon during the same period.

  • I've been looking at Akko keyboards recently, are there any downsides of the hotswappable ones versus the normal ones you can't change?

    • +18

Yeah, the downside is that you have upgrade options and your wallet might not like you.

      • The hardest part is having so many options, I want a linear keyboard that's full size. And Akko seem to have some great options, but then there are so many different switches….

        • +2

The good thing is you get to swap out the switches if you don't like them, as opposed to needing to replace the whole keyboard.

  • +1

Any chance of the full sized equivalent going on sale any time soon? https://www.pccasegear.com/products/58009/akko-dracula-castl…

I have the Ocean Star 1800 with Jelly Blue. The tactile switches are great. If I buy a full sized hot swap, I'll be thinking hard about getting Jelly switches… leaves my Razer TKL for dead

    • Waiting for the same!

  • +3

Why is it called Dracula castle?

    • +1

It's just the name for the keycap set

    • +3

features a Dracula Castle themed design

  • How does this compare to the gamakay LK67?

  • +1

Well for one thing, this isn't a 65% size.

I bought the madcatz strike 4 from officeworks a few weeks ago for $49 and loving it, unfortunately my old keyboard feels mushy now :(

  • Hoping the brains trust can assist - as I know nothing about these things. My son wants a hot-swappable wireless 65% RGB keyboard. I can't locate something that seems to match that's a local supplier. He wanted a Keydous NJ80. Any suggestions on something similar at PCCG or other local supplier?
*Edit - he wants bare ones so he can build it himself with linear switches, already has a HyperX TKL board which is wired and switches cost a bomb

    • +2

      I think the NJ80 is a 75%.

Maybe have a look at the Akko 5075s kit on PCCG FOR $99

      Or a TH80 on aliexpress

EDIT missed the wireless part. Don't think these are

      • +1

The TH80 is wireless, both Bluetooth and 5.1GHz. There are other alternatives to the TH80 on AliExpress like the Next Time 75 or the Feker variants too

Keychron are nice. I bought one recently and only took a couple of days shipping to Brisbane.

      • Ditto - extremely happy with my purchase.

  • That seems like a really good deal! The key caps alone almost cost that much, I'd know because I want them.

I picked up an Akko 3084B during Black Friday for $135 and I am very impressed with it. The per key RGB lighting customization on my Ducky board was much better but since I use this board mainly wireless across 3 PCs I have just turned off the backlight and haven't had to charge the battery yet.

It's so nice having a wireless mechanical keyboard!

    • ah drats you're in melb… would've offered to go halfsies or something haha.

  • Just bought a Keychron Q1 for $279
Don’t need this but tempted to just get it

    • +1

Lucky I didn't pull the trigger, just realised no END or HOME key

      • Good find. It's a pity.

        • I thought the akkos were programmable? Surely you could add the HOME/END to a function layer (eg Fn + PgUp = Home).
Or change the defaults and the keycaps so HOME/END is default and INS/DEL is on the function layer?

  • Hard pass on pc case gear. Bought a keychron, had nonstop repeating key issue after a few months, RMA’ed, sent me back a brand new one, same issue straight away. Sent them an email, no response this time.

  • +2

    This seems pretty solid. Respect

  • This or Keychron C2 for work?

    • Either are decent pickups, both are hotswappable and share many of the same features if I'm not mistaken

      • What would be you preference? There's only going to be a $15 difference between the two. My Logitech K780 just died and in need of a replacement.

        • Probably this Akko board, it's really good value for money IMO. The Akko Jelly Pink switches are probably on par with the Gateron G Pro Red switches, which are factory lubed. The Akko board does come with an ASA profile keycap set, which may take a bit of getting used to if you're used to Cherry profile or other shorter profiles. If you don't like it, you can always swap them out for another set. I can't really comment on after-sales support as I haven't dealt with either company personally, though both are pretty highly regarded.

  • Im after a keyboard for my sons first gaming build. I know nothing about this stuff.. is this a good keyboard for him to learn on. Any advice appreciated.

    • +4

Should be, yes. He'll be able to swap out the switches for different types if he doesn't like the feel of them, or the keycaps if he doesn't like the look of the keyboard. This is much better value than any of the Corsair, Logitech or Razer boards out there.

      • Thanks for that. How does it compare to this keyboard. Its the otherone i wqs looking at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739920

        • +1

That won't allow your son to swap out the switches if he doesn't like the feel of the switches, which is a high possibility. That one is wireless, this Akko board is not though wired keyboards perform just as well if not better than any wireless keyboard. I would personally go for this Akko board; it'll last longer and give your son plenty of options later down the road should he be interested.
