How Much Does It Cost to Install an in-Ground Pool?

How much does it cost to install an in-ground pool nowadays? Not the cheapest, but a decent length. Are they expensive to run/maintain?

Thanks

    So many variables.

How long is a piece of string sort of stuff.

  • A good filter will save you money, as pool filters can be expensive to run.

    Aqualink are usually good.

    In Melbourne?
Had a pool in a previous home in Melbourne; the biggest waste of time, money, effort, etc. Would never recommend.

      100% agree… Got rid of mine and put up a 9x6mtr shed…

  • Price to install a pool

    $35

    (includes call out fee)

If you're asking you can't afford one.

Cheap for sandy soil. Expensive if granite is found.
Cheap on flat land. Expensive on a hill. Mega on a cliff top.
Cheap of 1M depth. Expensive for 3M deep.
Cheap if no trees need removing. Expensive if a huge gum tree needs to be removed.
Cheap of the access allows big equipment to excavate and take the soil away. Expensive if you only have a walkway on a slop to use for getting the equipment and soil out.
    Cheap if…

As you can see there are allot of variables and as such no one can give an answer with the lack of info supplied. Better to get three quotes and then come back.

    Yes.

  • we did a smallish above ground pool and we didnt see change from $90k after groundworks, slab, pool, pumps, heater, decking, glass.

Think about everything not just the pool, plus you may need to get council DA approval and surveys done which are not cheap either.

Thanks everyone. I won't be installing a pool.

    • Now you won't come home to unknown 'neighbours' in your pool.

    Site clearing costs are ?
The hole in the ground is a cost which has variables such as interior finish - glass or ceramic tiles, pebble-crete etc.
Then, do you want paving around the pool - allow about $200sqmt for cost and installation.
    Fencing - glass or metal?
    Extra plumbing, electrical ?
    Landscaping?
Solar heating around $4,000-$5,000. Solar will raise the pool temperature around 6-8 degrees in Melbourne
Pool cover to retain heat in the water.
    etc etc etc
Our 8x4 pool had a base cost of $65,000 and an all-up cost of $100,000

Yes. Much cheaper to pay to go to a pool.

$23K 16 years ago 8 x 4 fibreglass, magnesium pool, wouldn't even cost $300 a year, solar on house runs the pump, rain fills it up rarely put water in it, don't use a cover tried annoying and not convenient.
I havn't bothered with solar/heaters, gets to 26-30c north coast nsw with out it.
Hand vacuum actually enjoy it takes 10 mins.
It's surround by rocks and gardens and 2m walk off our back patio and dive in.
Can be seen from all living areas of the house, sparkling blue water.

A large water tank is a cheaper option. Plus it has the added benefit of keeping the sun off.

Don't forget the ongoing maintenance costs and it being out of action for 60% of the year
    * Just realised you're in Melbourne, maybe make that 90% of the year

But yeah, i've heard between $30-$60k depending on ground conditions, quality of pool, size, hot water system etc.

  • Inflatable pool from Big W is a serious option if yiou just want to cool off with a BBQ and few beers.

Neighbour has had one for 4 yrs… put up for few mths, take down, let grass grow

We put in a fibreglass inground pool 10m long , concrete surround plus fence/gate for around $30000 a few years ago. Very easy to maintain and costs a couple of bags salt each year and a bit of electricity to run the pump\fikter. Would never live without a pool

  • Most important thing is a Council approved Fence.

  • My parents had a pool. I had to help maintain it. Never again.
