Bissell SpotClean Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner 4725 $179 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

360

Another variant of this carpet spot cleaner. Looks a basic one. May only have the one brush as that's all I can see in the photo's (that's all you need).

https://bissell.com.au/products/spotclean

I had one of these for a few years before it broke (the liquid pump is pretty tiny and plastic, almost designed not to last) and it's ok. You have to be careful using it on car seats as the chemicals can bleach dark cloth a bit (might have been worth going over it a few more times filled with just water). The basic idea is one tank has a mixture of water and carpet cleaning chemicals which gets sprayed on and brushed (how much brushing is up to you), then you run over it in vacuum mode to suck it out.

You'd probably be better off using a hand spray pack and a proper wet & dry vacuum as that will last longer. Just a bigger thing to lug out of the cupboard.

  • I had posted one for $10 less on Amazon, but because the seller didn't have much feedback it was taken down. I suppose the thinking is low feedback means more unreliable seller, but isn't Amazon backing them up? Anyway there's one pretty much the same (that definitely has two brushes).

  • Need turbo version for under $280.

    • Do you mean the bigger Pro one? I do wonder if it has the same pump and vacuum, just bigger tank.

    • +2

      $287 @ tgg commercial

      • Ah, The 'Turbo + Antibac' version - $287. It's 750 watts (the one in this post is 330 watts). A more powerful vacuum, but I'd want to know if the water pump is any better.

        https://bissell.com.au/products/spotclean-turbo

Also the Vax version of this one which looks very similar and for $149.

        • The Vax one is better.

      • how do you get a tag commercial account?

      • Exactly why I need it for under 280, because it's always 287 on TGGC.

        • +1

Exactly why? Why exactly? I dont get it? You need it for under 280 because its 287? 🤪

          • +1

@Herb Utsmellz: Because it's not a good bargain if I can get it for $287 every day at TGGC, I need a cheaper price to intice me to pull the trigger.

            • @CheapBrah: Hypothetically, they drop the price (new regular price) to $270… do you bite?

            • +1

@CheapBrah: Head into store and tell them the TGGC price, they are likely to price match (they do at my local), then you pay with discounted gift cards. Under $280.

    • That's the one that's $149 at The Goods Guys Commercial. Slightly more powerful vacuum motor. Given that it looks very similar you have to wonder if they both come from the same source.

Would this unit be too small to clean a couple of couches, a set of stairs, maybe a rug? Can this be used for that purpose or are these only for spot stains like when you drop some food on the carpet?

    • +13

I don’t understand how people are stupid enough to downvote genuine comments. Shame on you.

    • +1

Yes, you could use it for that. It has quite a narrow 'wand/brush', so it'll take a while, but you don't want to rush a couch and that size might be beneficial. The one thing with the cheaper smaller ones is they don't have a powerful vacuum motor, so leave more of the solution behind to soak in. Probably doesn't matter on stairs, but may on a couch.

I'd be inclined to at least get the bigger type like the 'Turbo + Antibac' one purely because it has a more powerful vacuum. Also more brushes (wider ones) so stairs won't take so long.

      • +1

Thanks for the info. I might wait for the turbo version to go on sale. This seems like one of those items few people buy, but many people will borrow.

  • Hmm I just bought the Vax Spotwash Go from BigW for $189, still in the box. Would I be better off returning that one and get this instead? They dropped $10 right after I got the unit lol They all look the same too.

    • I'd keep it if you're just wanting one of the smaller ones. Probably nothing in it between these two brands. I reckon different skins on the same product.

      • Thanks :) Will unbox it tomorrow!

    Say no to hardly normal.

  • Heaps of comparisons on Youtube. This one is very good. The Hoover one in it looks like a rebadge of the Vax one and he didn't like it.

  • I'm guessing the purple one is better?
not sure what I'm basing it on other than purple vacuum tends to be the higher end model

    • No. You get the same machine. The difference is which brushes and mixtures of the cleaner solutions that comes packaged with them. You really only want the smaller brush. Some have a wider brush but that just makes it harder to work on a spot.

Going by a few YouTube I've watched it's worth going for the bigger one (Turbo + Antibac). Just started watching this one:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZcSMvePBJg

He's only using the Bissell for vacuuming off. Sprays using a manual pump pot, scrubs with a brush on drill.

    • Um…is that your own personal voucher from joining/rejoining ebay plus? I almost got confused by this.

      • It is their voucher. I'm only getting $15 off with XMASHG. Already used my $80 voucher

  • +1

I compared the Pro ones on the Bissel site. They all have different brushes and sample containers of cleaner goo. Ignoring the sample cleaner pots - In order of best bang for buck:

TGG Commercial (by far the best buy) $287 for 6 tools
Harvey Norman (Domayne and Joyce Mayne) $399 for 6 tools
    SupercheapAuto $439 for 5 tools
Amazon (UK imports) $330 and $349 a couple of tools (not completely sure what's included with those ones)

I've had the little spot clean for years now 6+. Still going. But the short hose and tiny tanks it is a PITA.
Recently I bought a 12L wet/dry vacuum, and a generic upholstery attachment (clear head). With two $6 pump sprayers one for water one for solution.
For under $100 in total it does a much better job in the cars and around the house.

I can do an entire 6 seater + chaise lounge in one hit.

    • That's what I reckon I'll do, looking at the youtube above he uses a quality hand pump spray, drill brush (might cause more damage than a hand brush) and the Bissell, but a Wet & Dry must do it better. Just doesn't spray AND vacuum.

This bloke has some good YouTube, including this comparison between Bissell Pro and a shop Vac with extracting head.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tiYaNnRJ3I

      • +2

Yep, can confirm it is as good as the spot clean. I have box of drill brushes I bought of amazon ~$30 and they have been great!

        Spray solution
Brush in if necessary e.g. floor mats
        Extract
        Spray water
        Extract.

Same job for 1/3 of the price and not much more faffing about, the time gained by having separate spraying is saved buy not having to empty the waste tank every 2 minutes.

        • … and you don't go [as] deaf because the ludicrously short hose doesn't mean you need to keep the machine right beside you.

I have one of the Bissels from SCA, and I hate it. So very over-rated. Like you, I realised it's just a rubbish "wet and dry vac" setup with a sprayer and I've done as you have done. It's miles better.

Yet the fanboi's usually descend on these threads and sing high praise for them. Thank you for not doing that.

          Edit: Fix autoincorrect.

    • Definitely. I guess this Bissell one is only for people who don't have access to power point for their cars (e.g apartment block).

    • Where did you get your clear upholstery attachment for the wet:dry vac? I have been trying to find something for a while now but everything seems to be online only.

    • That's what I'm looking to do at the moment. Which attachment did you get? I'm guessing when you say clear head you mean like the ones on eBay around the $13 mark?
Can only find those, or more professional ones with a sprayer (that cost more than I paid for my vac).
Thinking of adapting the Bissell small brush tool to fit too, spray will still be separate but prob handy to have the brush built in

    • Question: where do you empty the wet and dry vacuum? Do you still put it in a rubbish bag? Or do you do the dry run first, empty it, then a wet run and empty into the toilet or something? Would something like Ryobi 1500W 30L Wet and Dry Vacuum work?

      • I dry vac first with a hand held then wet vac and tip into the sand or down the drain depending what/how much.

That vac would work fine, pretty much any wet/dry vac should do the job. I am using one of these (though haven't got a proper attachment yet, but have cleaned small spots with the crevice tool or bare end and leaves it fairly dry)

        • Thank you. I might get that one tomorrow just to test out. The spot cleaner I just bought turned out to be leaky so I now have to return it. Sigh.
