Depends on what you drive?
For a watch that should last a lifetime, no batteries to replace, vs tech watches, doesn't make it too bad for me. Sure it's not an everyday purchase, but has a place. My Longines watch with ss band is 15 yo, and still as new, despite daily wearing, ocean, pool, everywhere.
Thanks for the post op.
Citizen has Eco-Drive ones, no battery replacement either. Different class tho
eco-drive has special rechargeable capacitor battery that needs to be replaced when it no longer holds charge well
@dcep: Thats why you dont believe everything on the internet and do your research.
It's people like nuker that cause so much misinformation in this world.
@SpeedRunnerLink: Lol, lemme check.
@dcep: Yea, in 20 years
Yes it does need it. My 7 year old eco drive died and now they want $300 to fix a $700 watch :(. What you hear is not true.
@Sometingwong: Checked, people on Reddit have it for 10-15 years without problems. Technicians say 20 years is not a big stretch. Your case is just bad luck or some mechanical shock.
@Sometingwong: Does that include service?
They should ideally have the oil replaced every five years or so.
Citizen are boring as bay shIt.
While the watch itself is quite lovely, I question the size of the overlap between people happy to drop $2k+ on a watch and OzBargain users.
$2k very affordable in terms of lux watches….
I'm not saying it's not a deal, otherwise i would have negged it. Just saying that it's somewhat amusing to see.
Still dont understand why its amusing to see.
People dump thousands on computer parts which become obsolete after a few years and drop in price quickly.
But a carefully crafted watch can last a lifetime and hold more of it's value than many things.
I'd have more respect than someone spending 2k on a quality watch for proper use than gambling, smoking and drugs/alcohol.
@SpeedRunnerLink: You say this as if I also don't find people spending $3k on a GPU amusing. Again, I'm not saying it's not a bargain, I just find it amusing.
@Wontons: I never said $3k or specifically a GPU. or that you find it amusing
Now that is what I find "amusing" because you were able to make up a lie and try to claim I said that.
@SpeedRunnerLink: Ur life is amusing
what's truly amusing is the assumption that all ozbargainers belong to a specific income bracket that rules out being able to buy a $2000 watch.
This comes up every now and again on high priced items. It's like, it's not a bargain for me so why should it be a bargain for anyone else. Yes amusing, very amusing.
Self winding?
As opposed to automatic?
I dont understand your question.
If you're asking if Self winding is the same as automatic then the answer is no.
Self winding watches need to be wounded each day and their benefit is that they are thinner in design than an automatic.
Automatics (some models) need to be winded up first but after that get charged up as the moving rotor inside winds up the spring from movement while wearing it therefore does not need to be wound up again unless you dont wear it for some time.
Anyways all this information has been on the internet for years so you can look it up if you're genuinely interested.
Have you confused self winding with hand / manual winding?
I thought self winding = automatic
From Wikipedia: An automatic watch, also known as a self-winding watch or simply an automatic, is a mechanical watch where the natural motion of the wearer provides energy to wind the mainspring, making manual winding unnecessary if worn enough.Actually you're right.
Self winding = automatic.
I spent all my energy on Wonton and not thinking straight ahaha.
Time to sleep.
Longines Australia had 40% off Conquest VHP quartz watches until 29/11. For under $1000, watch accurate to 5 seconds per year. My mechanical Longines kept poor time from day 1 but within spec. Servicing cost high. It looks great after more than 15 years but not accurate whatsoever. Horses for courses.
Genuine question, why would I buy this over like a Seiko or an Orient? Don't they also make beautiful mechanical watches with solid movements, but at a fraction of the price?
Longines is a great brand but is it better quality than your Seiko? Probably. Objectively speaking it would have a more accurate movement compared to the Presages. It would also be finished much better. But if you have to ask the question then these watches probably aren't for you because watch purchases are just one of those things - You buy it because you like it.
Anyone can vouch or has experience purchasing from Linda & Co? It's not a direct purchase but you have to submit an enquiry instead? Feels like getting vetted to be a worthy buyer lol.
