Sony A95K 65" QD-OLED 4K TV $4880 + Delivery @ VideoPro

40

Edit: I originally made this post around Black Friday. It appears that this price is still active at VideoPro after the sale but am unsure for how long.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale ends tonight (28/11/2022) at VideoPro. This appears to be the best price for the A95K currently.

I was able to successfully price match this price in-store at JB Hi-Fi over the weekend (26/11/2022) for $4880. I am in WA so this was a welcome surprise considering its a QLD store.

Hopefully this helps people that are looking to pull the trigger on this gorgeous TV!

  • Holding out for this TV but won’t pay more than $4400

Sony had 12% cashback at CR recently, although now 4%
That will work out to cheaper than this ($4813.36). Sony also has Free Shipping.

  • Is this better than the C2?

    • think it's the best there is at the moment
shame it doesn't come in 55" in Aus.

    • I was looking at one of the two (Samsung/Sony) alongside the C2 in a JB last week, can't recall which brand QD-OLED. Obviously at mercy of the store who set them up…. but I'd be taking the C2. Cheaper and IMO on the quick look, appeared nicer. I was hoping/expecting a big difference between the 2.

      Was disappointed honestly.

I'm not gonna say these aren't better yet though, I'd like to spend better time with them, but price is a big difference… and I'd never get the first of it's kind.

      • Stores almost always never have the same content on screens from different manufacturers so it's hard to compare, but the Sony is statistically the best OLED based TV that exists. Next is a toss-up between LG G2 and Samsung S95B with C2 marginally behind.

        • They had identical footage at the same time, obviously settings could be an issue though.

I do know, read everywhere, watched YouTube etcetera that the Sony is the best TV atm. But I was expecting something much better.

I went with the G2 for the 5yr Panel warranty after tossing up the C2/G2 and the A95k and the S95B.. I was keen on the QD-OLED but it's a bit first gen and will get better over time yet still, but the 5yr panel guarantee was the clincher for me after seeing some friends deal with 1yr warranty's on tv's and ACL etc. might make things a bit easier..

If the sony was same price as the G2 then i'd be a lot more keen on it but the warranty was a dealbreaker for me with the investment.

      • You do know the 5 year panel warranty is only for parts for the final two years. Labour cost to repair anything is on the customer from then. Keep that in mind if you have any issues later down the line and get a surprise from them, saying you still have to pay the technician for the labour

        • ACCC would like a word about a two year warranty on an expensive TV.

          • @NoApostrophePlurals: Dont think you can count mate. 5 minus 2 = 3 years.

            • @Whisper Quiet: Hahaha my bad! Was late! But the sentiment still applies.

              • @NoApostrophePlurals: Probably but after 3-4 years theres less certainty of it being covered under ACL. A lot of the time you would have to pay a partial amount to repair issues. As many LG owners found out, obviously some were fully covered, depending on model and cost etc. Usually buying a Sony gives a higher percentage of it being reliable well over 5 years which is sometimes the cost difference of getting a warranty with another TV.

Buy the samsung for $1500 less. Just took delivery of my s95b 55” and it’s incredible. Same panel as this Sony, how wrong can you go

    • How do you find it handles upscaling like watching say sports?

    • The Samsung was $2000 less but yes agree get the Samsung. The Sony is better but not for almost double the price.

      • The only thing missing really in the Samsung is Dolby vision.

        • Agree, I mulled over the Samsung for a few days but bought it on the weekend. Hopefully I don't regret the lack of Dolby Vision.

Got the Sony, it's better, but up to you whether its '$$$' better.

I like the build/frame/stand better, as well as the interface. I'd suggest the motion effects (smoothing etc. [yes shhhhh unless you've tried it out…]) are much better on the Sony also.

I also prefer Dolby Vision over HDR10+.

Lastly, no warping panel issues on the Sony and no ABL.

Many people have had issues with the new Samsung. Its why the price has dropped so much. Gaming features not working, bent screens, flickering issues, screens only showing half, etc. Hopefully its all good with your set. When its working well its the best picture you will see. Shame that Samsung dont have the best QC though. Constant Firmware updates have been ruining it every time. My advice would be check the firmware model if its 1304 or earlier dont update it lol.

    • Isn't there a known function in the S95B that it uses an auto-dimming feature to address the potential issue of burn-in?
Meaning when you watch tv shows or movies that have long scenes of a similar colour palette the panel slowly dims down the brightness.
Whereas the A95K doesn't need to dim the brightness to avoid burn-in, it has other measures to avoid it.

All OLEDs do that. A95K just doesn't do it on medium bright scenes. Higher brightly lit scenes it still does it. Called APBL. Because the Sony has a heat sink it can push the panel a bit more for those kinds of things. Almost impossible to get that on normal content though, unless its a video game
