We've all seen the movie, now read the book!

A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas, commonly known as A Christmas Carol, is a novella by Charles Dickens, first published in London by Chapman & Hall in 1843 and illustrated by John Leech. A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Enjoy!

I wonder why on earth is Santa on the cover for ‘A Christmas Carol’ when he has absolutely nothing to do with this story and is not even mentioned in the text, haha.

    • Now thats an original comment 😀

I'm going to play the (profanity) here - is this a deal?

Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol is in the public domain. Thats why we see a never ending stream of movies on Scrooge - eg. there is no copyright restrictions on A Christmas Carol. Its always (or should be) free on amazon.

https://libguides.bcu.ac.uk/copyright/creative-commons - this is a good resources on why its free to use A Christmas Carol.

There are a lot of public-domain works sold on Amazon. I suppose it makes those works easily available to people who only have a Kindle as a reading device.

But in reality, most of those listings look like people trying to make a buck out of selling something that should be free. They haven't added anything significant to the original work, so I think the fee should be negligible or zero.

    • This book has been free on Project Gutenberg every single day for the last 30 years, it was added in 1992. And yes, there's a Kindle version.

Only a freebie offer for anyone already subscribed to the Kindle Library service.
It will be delivered to your library so only readable via approved apps or Kindle devices.
You can get a short trial membership to the program but Amazon start charging fees pretty quickly.
This is one of the most blatant bait and switch programs I've seen in quite a while.

Not so. Anyone who has an Amazon account can purchase for free, with or without subscribing to the paid "Kindle Unlimited" service. I just purchased for $0, and I've never had a subscription.

only readable via approved apps or Kindle devices.

You can read on most web browsers. Go to read.amazon.com and log in with your Amazon account credentials, and your library is presented to you. This also works for AU Amazon accounts.
