Battery is more expensive than the tool… waiting for a kit deal 😅

    • +2

Not when Bunnings price beat alliance hardware. Ends up at $151 for the 6ah which is normal price for the standard 18v non flex battery. Bought 3 batteries last week.

Yes I got a kit deal a few years back https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/490454
then purchased adapter for all my older Dewalt gear https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333564815832

Can you use a standard dewalt 18volt battery with this?

    • The sales rep told me no.

      • +1

Thanks, good deal if you have a battery

    • 18v/54v flex battery only which charges in a normal 18v charger.

    • -5

Yes you can use standard 18v

      • +4

Incorrect. It is a 54v tool. Just tried an 18v battery and it will not fit. 18v/54v flex batteries fit both 18 and 54 volt tools but 18v standard batteries will only fit 18v tools.

        • +2

For the info of anyone interested:

Just to confuse matters further dewalt do a flex advantage range of tools that are 18v and will run on an 18v battery but deliver up to an alleged 77% more power when used witht the flex 18/54v batteries.

Maybe if you 3d print an adapter and join three in series.

  • anybody using one of these can comment on the vibration? Ive got the old battery model which goes well with an adapter for the new batteries but it really shakes, rattles and rolls when it gets going;(

  • Bizarre. I bought one this morning before it appeared on OB.
    1 left at Blackburn.
Im only new to the flexvolt stuff so hopefully it works well. The saw is a ripper running on flexvolt batteries so here's hoping this will be as good.

Just had a play with it. She's a big mutha.
Probably overkill for me who was mostly happy with my 18v Milwaukee recipro for what I need it for.

    • Curious why you did buy it then?

      • +1

Ive got a shed demo to do then a new one to erect. I'm never one to need an excuse to buy a power tool.

Realistically the Milwaukee is much better balanced and can easily be used one handed. The wife loves it as a pruning saw. The 54v dewalt makes the Milwaukee look like and feel like a childrens toy. I can't see me using ithe dewalt much after the job is finished.

  • Btw this is an old model. The DCS389 is the current model and can be had with $100 off when you trade in a cordless tool. Still expensive at around 375 with discount.

  • I've got a non brushless unit. Pretty good as a pruner and general cutting. Can grab purning blades via eBay. Plenty of juice on mine and it's non brushless. Can only suspect this is a lot better.

  • I bought this unit about 18 months ago. Have used it extensively. It is a bit heavy, however that lends itself to gravity pulling it through wood vertically.
The flexvolt Batteries are required for this, the 18V do not fit.

i don't know what it is, but it's pretty cheap, so bought it.

  • Does bunnings still have any stock for a price beat?

    • +1

      Bunnings doesn't carry this model.

  • Big boy wrecking toy.

  • Thanks OP. Got one from Clayton store.

  • Appears to be sold out for online order - now store stock only.

    • I bought mine out of store stock at Maitland via telephone ,they emailed me a payment link and then it was sent free delivery.

  • Damn, bought a ryobi one last week. If only I had waited..

    • +1

Honestly for 80% of what you will probably do with it the ryobi will be the better option.

      • Yeah, the ryobi has a slightly lower RPM and saved $30 compared to this deal. Though it dig bog a bit when I was "pruning". Thought the 54v might give it a bit more beans.
Just trying to justify my 54v battery purchase haha.

All I can say is that if anyone's considering the cheapest ryobi recip, don't. Get the next one up. With the cheaper one you have to hold the safety lock button in to operate it, the next one up the switch can be locked on.
Much easier to use and worth the extra $50~ for that alone in my opinion.

        • I didnt have to try hard to justify the flex battery purchase after buying on of thr 18/54 flex advantage saws. It was pretty good with a standard 18v battery but way better with the flex battery. I then went out and bought the grinder version of the saw which uses both. Another excellent tool. As mentioned before. If you quote the alliance hardware price for the flex battery to bunnings (and they are in a good mood) you get the flex (18/54) 6ah battery for the same price as a standard 5ah
