Resell Tesla PreOrder 12 Months Ago

Ordered a Tesla Model 3 twelve months ago and it is now ready. I have purchased a new car since then.

Before proceeding with cancelling the order, just wondering whether it is worth reselling this order? Where can we check the resell price for brand new Tesla Model 3 car?

I'm certain there's a site online, based around sales of cars, which would let you know the market

    The name alludes me tho

You mean like a ā€œCarsalesā€ website? Well, stone the ā€œGumtreeā€, sounds like a great ā€œMarketplace.

What could also be helpful of prices is if we had like, a little book, say, a ā€œRed Bookā€ for searching these things. Or for looking with your eyes, a ā€œGlassā€™s Guideā€.

Shame we canā€™t think of any names off the top of our heads.

What is your total delivered price?

I will give you an extra dollar to make it worth your time.

  • What you buy instead?

This is OzBargain, so hopefully a secondhand Camry.

  • Sell it back to Elon.

    • Musk too busy f**ing up Twitter.

I think you are better off cancelling. With all the new Model Y owners selling up their Model 3's, it has started to tank the Tesla Model 3 used car market. The fanbois are starting to come to terms with the realisation that their NFT of cars, just isnt worth what they think it is. This has the knock on issue that if you buy it, you wont be able to sell it for anywhere near what you paid, even if it is 0km and brand new.

Another option would be to see if any friends or family are waiting in line for a Tesla and just give them your spot.

You could try some of the Tesla websites/forums/groups and post up that you have an order and don't need it now as you have another car and see if someone will give you anything for it, but from what I have heard, you may get a bite, but there will be a lot of complaining about "scalping" and they take a pretty dim view of people who order just to sell their order.

Lastly, you could just put up an ad on Fartbook or Scamtree and offer your spot in the queue and for pickup ASAP and someone might offer you a few gold coins for it…

Will dealers generally allow you change the name of the buyer at purchase?

e.g. 'or nominee' when settling on a property purchase.

    • +1

Yep, there's an absolute glut of them on the market right now. Looks unlikely you'd really turn a profit on one

Why would you order a car, then buy something else in the meantime? Appears you didnā€™t want it in the first place so you might as well just cancel the order.

Iā€™ve been waiting for a new car ordered in January. Not gonna buy anything before itā€™s delivered, Itā€™s what I want. If our current vehicle dies or gets written off Iā€™ll buy a $2k banger until the new one arrives.

then buy something else in the meantime? Appears you didnā€™t want it in the first place…

I am banking on that this was their intent the whole time. Get on the pre-order list and sell their spot in the queue once the car got closer. I reckon that a large portion of Tesla orders are made for this exact reason.

The deposit was pretty cheap if I recall. Ball park of ~$500??

Edit :Just saw below it was $350

  • +1

What do you lose if you cancel your order?

  • +2

Not worth the hassle. Just cancel and lose the $350 deposit. Tesla apparently are looking out for people reselling immediately.

What can Tesla do about it or care?

It's not like Porsche, Ferrari or Ford (GT40) where you have to be selected or approved to buy certain limited edition cars and then agree not to re-sell the car within a certain time frame?

      • What can Tesla do about it

Probably a litany of little things via software just to screw with you. They disable supercharger support for battery packs repurposed to EV conversions. Wouldnā€™t be surprised if they can do all sorts of things to the OS.

        • +2

You might cop a bit of hate speech on Twitter.

They disable supercharger support for battery packs repurposed to EV conversions.

Isn't this like the definition of anti-competitive behaviour?

  • Market place. I once checked out an ad of someone selling their model 3 upon delivery and now I can't stop them from appearing in droves. So me thinks heaps of people are doing this right now for various reasons.

  • Upgrade it and get a performance model 3. ;)

There's a special place in hell for people that flip car reservations so as to only increase demand.
    Covid money is quickly disappearing.
Luxury items are coming back down to earth and yes that includes cars.

9~10 months ago, I had a watch alert set on Carsales for Tesla Model 3, up to $55k… and nothing… months went by and now it seems every other day I am now getting "a new car has been added to your search"… Prices are coming down, and it seems fairly quickly.

  • The waiting time for a new Tesla is like 3 months, less then basically any other manufacturer.

I'm sure you maybe able to find SOMEONE to buy it but really the model 3 is facing some competition these days and most people would prefer a SUV.

  • purchased a new car since then.

    what did you buy ?

  • you won't get far

    • +2

It's delivered with a flat battery?

  • Tesla has Model 3's in stock, like right now, so I'm going to say the price is below retail. I found one today that was almost identical to what I had on order so I'm buying that instead.
