Epson EH-TW7100 4K Projector $2174 Shipped (Normally $2899) @ Selby

40

I've been shopping for a while for a replacement for my 10 + year old Epson Dremio TW2000, and this deal caught my eye.

High brightness,
4k signal (fake 4k display of 2k + 2k pixel shift)
Good contrast, assuming a dark room of course.

I've been a fan of projectors for a while, given the price for ~100 inch screens, ideal for the football world cup!

Technology
Projection System: 3LCD Technology, RGB liquid crystal shutter
LCD Panel: 0.61-inch wide panel with MLA (C2 Fine, 10 bit)
Pixel Number: 2,073,600 dots (1920 x 1080)
Resolution: 4K Enhancement (1920 x 1080 x2)

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

Paid about the same at HN with price match about 12 months ago. Really happy with it so far.

Are these being usurped now by the short throw laser projector things? Or are the lasers better / different, and if so how?

Hope someone can pitch in who may have used both?

Lasers are generally better as the bulbs don't give out, however having said that I'm on my 3rd bulb in ~10 years and I used to use it heavily.
Short throw kind of need a decent (and expensive) screen to get the most out of them, not a laser thing, but a distance thing.

Oh, and the cheapest decent laser is up around $9,000 , so you really cannot compare…. for the price.

Epson do what is considered the best 4k laser for home, trouble is it weighs 20 kilos (not easy to ceiling mount), and is $8999, the next cheapest are pushing $20k.

I'm afraid I don't know much about the short throw, but frankly you might be better off with a decent TV if that's a thing.

      • I got a $700 100 inch screen from Alibaba, acceptable for the Samsung ust , but definitely not acceptable without a screen compare with my Epson 6700

      • Thanks for the response. I thought I'd seen lasers down at $5k, but probably mistaken.

        • I cannot say I've been looking , but you could be right, not sure they would be 4k though as the cheapest "true 4k" used to be $20k plus and I think the epson 12000 is the newest/cheapest true 4k laser around $9k

  • Got mine from videopro as there are not many that fit the throw distance I have. I love it.

  • I’ve got one. It’s great, super happy. It’s mounted on a high platform near the roof and uses the lense shift ….
    Nice and bright

There is a New version. Epson 2350 It was 2k shipped from bhphoto.

    • Assembling my thoughts better ! - This one cannot be shipped from bhp photo if you look at their site, so not sure where you're getting a "shipped price" but that model does not seem to be on release yet. Thanks though, I have parked my order for the 7100 as it's likely to be a similar price and does 120hz for gaming, which is desirably to me.
Given I have a TW2000 at the moment I can afford to be patient. There is no listing or price for AU for the epson 2350 yet in epsons official pages, but I expect it'll be at RRP for quite a while when it releases.

If it matters, the 2350 will not do 3D (like I care) but the 7100 does.

        • You're winding me up, I tried and it says "manufacturers restrictions, cannot ship blah blah"

You're not concerned it'll be 110v and have the wrong cables?

Due to the manufacturers restriction, we are unable to accept orders with the provided shipping address for the following item(s):

Clearly you're not actually trying to BUY, but you cannot, it rejects at the final hurdle.

          • @DisasterArea: Sorry mate, I dos not try to buy Just went to last step before.

            • @Dienk: No worry, you seem to have stopped me making an awful mistake anyway, so I thank you.
The 7100 doesn't have the lens shift I'm used to with the TW2000 (90degrees) , so I'll have to be more careful looking at specs.
I think it would be ok…

But the 2350 or similar, no horizontal lens shifting is absolutely unacceptable, so I'm glad BHP photo order failed to go through, I'd be mad as hell to unpack that from USA and find it offcentre to my screen :)

Those new projectors from epson are ALL interesting, but for the lack of proper lens shift.
If you've ever had a projector and had to deal with keystoning, YUK. ruins the picture.

              https://www.projectorcentral.com/Understanding-Lens-Offset-a…

you cannot buy something "4k ish" then rely on keystoning…. so I think on balance the 7100 remains the better pick at the same price point.

        • What about this one : this actually CAN be ordered : https://www.amazon.com.au/Epson-EH-TW6150-PRO-UHD-Technology…

          OR : more info : https://www.justprojectors.com.au/epsonehtw6250.htm

Worth noting that these are TWO different new projectors and "ultra short throw" - may not be useful to people who were looking at the 7100, designed for very short projector to screen distances. thanks for playing.

So many things to consider, these NEW projectors have very limited vertical lens shifting (60%) and ZERO HORIZONTAL - this is not good news.
You would pretty much have to align the lens dead centreline of your screen which is VERY hard to do.

I knew I must be missing something fundamental. I'm glad I could not order this "2350" now, it would not have worked on my ceiling at all….

I'm 4.2 m away with 85" screen , but importantly the image starts at about the height of the projector, a 60% lens shift vertically would not do it, and horizontal of 0% would be a total fail. Good job I didn't order the 7100 too, would not have worked well

          Current "TW2000"
Vertical: 96.3% max. (upward & downwards)
Horizontal: 47.1% max. (Left and Right)

          TW7100
Lens Shift (Manual) Vertical: -60% to +60%
          Horizontal: -24% to +24% <very very important

TW6250 No horizontal shift AT ALL, just keystone (shivers)
