There's cheaper petrol chainsaws but if you're already in the Ego system this is the cheapest I've ever come across for this entry level Ego electric chainsaw - the 35cm CS1400e. TradeTools also have the same chainsaw with a battery + charger for $359 but that doesn't seem as great in terms of value.

Product Description from website.
These Trade Duty Cordless Chainsaws are one of the most powerful cordless chainsaws on the market. Powered by the industries first and most advanced 56 Volt ARC lithium-ion battery, which is cleverly placed underneath the handle to offset the weight of the Hi-efficiency Brushless Motor giving you better overall balance to provide a smooth cut every time. • I understand its 56v, but, how is it compared to Victa 82V?

basic math says 82v is better, anyone has any experience with these two?

    • +7

Basic math says it is higher, not better.

      • True but its about Watts and Watts is Volts x Amps. So 82x4Amps=328. 328/56=5.9Amps. Less current draw from a battery is a good thing etc.

My Sthil was 80V from memory

  • Was on the verge of buying the ozito one but this just swayed me to up and get something far better. Cheers OP!

      You're welcome :)

I was in the same boat - had a couple of trees come down a fortnight ago in some storms and had been looking at the Ozito but then came across this one.

Don't forget The BUZZ promotion - spend more than $700 in one transaction for redeemable goodies

  • I have the Ozito brushless equivalent and it's surprisingly good. 3 pairs of 4Ah batteries lasted me an hour of active cutting through redgum. No regrets

Assuming the Ego range has similarly large batteries, then this would be a good deal if you're already in the ecosystem.

    • Yep, I’ve got a 7.5Ah battery from my ego mower that will come in handy if I need a bit extra.

  • is this like an actual chainsaw for cutting big trees or just a small one like https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/698573

    • It’s got an extra 10cm, but it’s still not on the large side.

In saying that, this could be big enough for most home use.

    • That's for small trees and branches. This is for slightly bigger trees and branches. It's got almost 50% more cutting length (350mm vs 230mm). I can't find any comparisons on motor speeds though. Could be pretty similar as this is the entry level model. If you need more power you're probably better off with the 40cm Ego.

I wouldn't recommend it for cutting large trees (>30cm) or for taking out for long trips cutting wood. The beauty of these cordless chainsaws are that they can quickly be taken out of the shed and without much time wasted on mixing fuels or starting issues, you are up and running cutting small wood items around the house. Also, they aren't that noisy so good for neighbour relations. You can tackle larger items but it was problematic for me.

My 16" Ego would frequently yet randomly cut out half way through a cut on anything above 25cm. I had to release the throttle and start again. The battery charge light would commonly turn to red when it cut out, which usually means it was out of charge. But it wasn't and this occurred on fresh batteries and even with different amp hour rated varieties.

Ego were puzzled and after a lot of correspondence they allowed me to take it to a service centre. The service centre was a little odd as it was a rough looking computer/tv/security camera seller/repairer. The guy never had seen an ego before. Anyway, after a month he replaced the motor and passed it back to me. But the problem still occurred. Ego eventually refunded my money.

My theory is that it was drawing too many amps when under the heavy load of cutting half way through a large log. Strange thing is, I struggled to find anyone else with the same problem besides one guy in the US who made a review on the Ego site.

I would also like to mention two other issues for me. These don't have a metal bumper spike but a plastic, almost toy looking, bumper. I think that gives you some idea that this is not meant for large logs. Also, the battery wouldn't last half a 6x4 trailer load of cutting. I would suggest a few batteries for long trips.

But as I said, they are great devices for quick pruning or home owner tree cuts. My mate has the Dewalt version but it also struggles with large logs or extended time on the job. I have the Ego blower incidentally, and after several years, it is still in my opinion, the best cordless blower out there.

      • Yeah there are some good electric chainsaw comparisons on youtube and the EGO saws didnt perform that well until the 18inch bar model come out which is 1 of the best if not the best on the market, but these smaller ones were quite underwhelming. Still $209 for a camping saw is tempting .

The problems you described was to do with the voltage drop due to high current draw. Battery circuit rely on cells voltage to estimate remaining capacity and will cut out if voltage drop below certain level. Under sustained high load voltage will drop faster than usual and the battery usable capacity is also drop significantly. This is particularly problematic for smaller battery pack like the 2.5ah one where they only have 1 bank of 14 cells connected in series. Larger pack like 5ah or even 7.5ah can handle heavy load better as they have more than one bank connected in series so each individual cell being drawn lower current at the same operating conditions

Got one as no one wanted to price match it

  • Need a deal on the pole saw attachment.

    • has there ever been one?
There is a VIP night coming up in 2 days at total tools

  • thanks, need a new face

  • Bought. All I need now is to plant some trees to cut down.

  • anyone have a co.park to the Sthil,.it's the only battery saw I have used, was.pretty impressed (for what it was)

I need.to replace.it (burnt to death in the 2020 bushfires when we were taken out.

I have no ego ecosystem though, so battery etc ? They have other stuff like decent blowers etc ?I have a Trade Tools shop within walking distance of me.

  • Bugger.

"OUT OF STOCK OR UNABLE TO BE SOLD ONLINE - PLEASE CONTACT FOR MORE INFO"

    • Hmm… Still works for me. Where do you see this?

    • worked for me.

  • 55.19 shipping to WA kills the deal for me.

I have one works well needs at least a 5ah battery if cutting anything thicker than 15cm. I have cut trees 30cm thick no problem. I use canola oil in mine.

  • NVM, working now.

    • Managed to get one at the local shop, thank OP. Will make a nice addition to the toolkit so I don't have to juice up the big Makita just to do small jobs. :)

Bought one, thanks. Had been looking at these for ages, already in Ego ecosystem (mower, blower and powerload trimmer). Excellent deal.
