actually i disagree… i asked about warranty and coming from overseas if warranty would be an issue but no reply..Im not willing to buy a drive i cant send back to the local manufacturer. The reason being is because sometimes when they buy bulk drives through a company they get special deals and can only get warranty in that country. This has happened before to me and after months of emails and sending the drive back i finally got it resolved, this is why im weary of this group buy. Who wants the hassle - not me.

          • @Retarded Lunatic: The group buy price for this drive is $333 - it's cheaper to buy 3 of these drives from the group buy than it is to buy 2 drives from this deal.

            I think you're over-valuing the warranty - it's adding over $200 to the buy price !

@Nom: i was looking at the 20tb drives - but to put it a better way ill just quote what was said below "The issue is 2-3 years down the track when the drive starts throwing SMART errors and is about to die. Warranty becomes much more complicated. After 30 days of you receiving your item, Amazon or whoever you buy the drive from generally washes their hands of the situation. Roughly the same timespan you have to put in a return request. After that point, they usually refer you to contact the manufacturer for warranty claims.

If you can get the manufacturer to accept your warranty claim, you will have to the ship the drive back to its country of origin. And then comes the fun part to get the manufacturer to ship the replacement back, they often refuse to ship internationally. In those cases you will have to deal with a postal forwarding company. The cost and hassle quickly adds up unfortunately." also in some cases the manufacturer wouldn't offer warranty because of how they were bought from the supplier overseas which happened to me.

I get that it is cheaper but in the long run of hassles and soforth ill look local for a cheap price rather then a importer buying bulk (not knowing warranty isssues until you have problems) then sending them out which i assume what the group buy seller is doing.

Re the Amazon comment, in case anyone is interested: We ordered 5x 18TB Exos from Amazon US for work. All of them were in cardboard boxes with plastic hard drive spacers and in black anti-static bags. They came in lots of 2 + 2 + 1.

Weirdly one of them was badly dented and didn't work, like someone had taken it out of the box and dropped it multiple times. RMA process with Amazon was easy, I think we were out of pocket about $10 for postage as they only gave I believe $15USD coverage for return postage. We ordered a replacement and it came within 4 days. All drives show the full 5 year coverage on the Seagate warranty check.

That sort of damage related to shipping is always handled extremely well with Amazon. Never had a problem with those sorts of issues myself when purchasing an item on Amazon US or UK via Amazon AU.

1000000% agree but its not limited to amazon and its also under what conditions the drives were bought too.
