says something really bad about australian business if you have to pay 33% more for the same item just because its sent locally

i'd bet that even if your China sourced tablet went bad during warranty and you had to pay to ship it back $50 would cover it

your call but i'd rather have $50 in my pocket

Shop around people, this can be had for a LOT less if you do your homework, but warranty might be an issue if something goes wrong.

  • +4

The price premium is a little hard to swallow, especially considering the tablet is a minor brand. The Toshiba Thrive tablet deal back then was much better.

This isn't a bargain at all, the more like advertising.

obligatory Google Nexus 7 will slaughter these China tabs comment

      Not without an sd slot….

      • +1

That's what stopped me from buying it. Google want you to use their clod storage and force you into it. :/

        • +1

Yea, stopped us getting atleast one too, such a pathetic marketing decision, I wouldn't have a problem using their cloud storage, but I'm not even getting their product in it's current form.

        • +1

to be fair to google, they are taking that playbook (LOL!) from Apple and Blackberry

they force you into more expensive models with a bit more memory but 25% more cost

i can expect a company like google to be a bit good with consumers but i don't expect miracles

        • +1

Can't you just get a USB adapter and plug in a flash drive? Thats what I do with my G Note if i need to transfer files on the go.

        • +1

Usb OTG is currently unavailable for the Nexus tablet. However with root access one might be able to hack into the tablet to enable the feature.

        • I shouldn't need to carry around a hard drive to have to transfer on and off whatever multimedia that I may feel like using at any given time. With a 64GB micro SD card, it would allow me to take enough to keep me going regardless of trip length without reliance on external devices. Expected better from Google, but I guess they had to draw the line somewhere, making a loss on the tablet and all.

        • I heard somewhere that if you buy directly from Google Play, they break even.
They make a small loss if you buy from a retailer.

        • Well sooner or later you will have to find alternatives because more devices are moving away from SD cards today, so soon we won't have that luxury.

because more devices are moving away from SD cards today

Uhhh… proof? I don't see why we're moving away from expandable storage. Unless a very large majority of the population (globally) have access to fast, unlimited internet, the Cloud is not yet a viable alternative for mass storage for a lot of people — especially Australia.

Australia is still pretty ass-backwards in terms of broadband technology. While the NBN is coming, it doesn't look very cheap.

Google didn't include an SD card slot because they wanted to promote their own cloud storage service (Google Drive) and online streaming services (Movies and Music). They also want you to splurge more on their 16GB tablet, since they make literally no profit from selling the tablets.

        • What about Sony Xperia, HTC One X, One XL, the list goes on and on with this years lineup. Anyway, why do you think Apple never included it in the iPhone? Because SD cards has its limitations. It causes bottleneck, its slow and can cause issues to the phone performance. Google doesn't like it because of this and app compatibility as apps stored on the SD card can't load automatically on a device restart. Anyway I'm not against it as its convenient, but I'm just proving my point on why more manufacturers are trying to moving away from SD Cards.

Or even the Kogan Agore if you want a bigger screen and save $100.

  • +4

Why would anyone buy this for this price?

    • +2

Because noobs who only shop at Harvey Norman think they will save $800

features look great so if you can get this under $200, then it would make a really good media player for train trips.

I posted one for ~150 a couple of weeks ago.

I don't get it. If nexus 7 is selling for $250 then these China tablets should be some where around $100? Or they hope ozbargainers haven't heard of the nexus 7 yet?

    • +1

      nexus 7 is $250aud but only $200usd

right now its in the release period so of course they want to milk it

  • +1

it's 150 elsewhere and the nexus worth getting is $300

Same tab that Shaw posted a deal on last week.

I read the following on an Ainol forum this morning, almost made coffee come out my nose:

Great, I think that Jellybean will be great update for Ainol devices.

or some sort of gag you pull with a flashlight while camping.

  • Good tablet but TOO expensive

  • rubbish when nexus 7 is around the same price and infinitely better these only worth considering if sub 100

  • Nexus 7 is cheaper, even with 3G and whatever else this tablet offers, it's no longer worth the cheap build quality.

  • Not that I think anyone will care, but it seems they have dropped this to $189.95 + shipping which is still too much.

  • Down to 179.95 … a couple more days at -$10 a day and you'll almost be competitive!
