A backpack or duffle bag would be lighter.

    • Thanks. I was looking for something with wheels , that can fit some clothes/ makeup Kira etc and that is easier for my wife to travel with. I usually just carry my duffel bag that I bought from Aldi special buys couple of years ago.

      • You can buy a duffle bag with wheels, don't know how heavy they are but they exist.

  • I moved away from softshell as I'm sick of them tipping forwards when packed. My Samsonite carry on handle broke on my second trip when i fell down a step, let go of the bag with the handle extended and it fell on the ground. After the first trip I had to get one of the pockets mended as there was a hole (covered by warranty).
Applite used to be rated well by choice magazine i think, and if lowest weight is your priority then it's a good choice. Seems like a good price at the moment, I haven't seen any amazing deals on luggage like there were in the past!

  • Mine always tips forward also! But I like having an outside pocket for my passport or whatever so its a bit of a dilemna.

    • Antler came out with the "Clifton pocket" version of their Clifton line which i thought looked interesting, however some of the reviews say it still tips over…

Thanks everyone, bought the American Tourister one from Strand Bags with Cash rewards.

  • Let us know how you like it since I didn't get one yet, now I'll have to wait until boxing day.

    • they called me to inform me one of the item was out of stock (20 inch) and another 65 inch one turned out to be too small so
I returned it. will have to look for it again on boxing day.

      • Hi did you end up getting anything?

@Joytank: Received the smaller one yesterday and the bigger one will arrive on Monday.
Smaller one looks very nice and sturdy, not too heavy. I like the design, I had delivery address at work and coworkers who saw the suitcase were surprised that it only cost around $100. I'm happy with it. Don't have a trip planned anytime soon so can't ay how it will hold. As long as it lasts me around 10 trips, I'll be happy. It weighs 2.3 kg, wish it was 2 or less but that's fine.

  • I bought this one after a lot of research trying to find the lightest one possible. 1.8kg
There is a 4 wheeler, but I preferred the lighter weight and bigger volume.

  • Lightest I've ever seen for hardshell and wheeled is one I used to own - Samsonite lite-shock - 1.7kg, four wheels (granted the wheels were tiny)

But now have sold it off and leech off my wife's July carry on light expandable - bit heavier at 2.2kg but much more volume
