DJI Osmo Mobile 6 $189 ($50 off) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Harvey Norman

131

This is the first time I've seen this Gimbal on sale.
It's a very new model to hit the market and I believe it might even be a pricing error as mostly only OM5's have been on sale. (The older model)

I've ordered one and will let you know if it arrives.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

Ah $50 off - $189. Got excited there for a tick

  • How does this compare to the Smooth 5?

  • +1

Price matched through online chat earlier at JB in case you still have a $10 perks voucher to get it to $179

I just ran as fast as I could chasing my grandchildren with a pixel, stabilsed it in post and it's smooth as silk.

Don't know why you'd carry an expensive thing that much bulkier than your phone to achieve the same result.

    • it does cut off the frame to be smaller to compensate on the actual movements.

      • -4

The newest iterations lose barely anything becuase they're baking in gyro data . Some ULCE's also do it, you can use the gyro data to stabilise in software such as DaVinci or PPro.

Soon they'll compensate on the fly and adjust composition in real time also.

Shoot just a little bit wider and stabilise in post, so much better than dicking around with this thing, but if your OK with bulky equipment, then use a proper camera for even better footage.

    • agreed I think these will surely die out soon with decent software stabilisation becoming commonplace

    • It's good that you can do that, but you neg it because it's a bad bargain?

      • -3

It's not a bargain if free software is a better solution to the problem it claims to solve.

        • +3

It's not really a this vs. that sort of situation. Stabilization in post works well for you, other people want to clip thier phone onto a piece of hardware that does the same thing. It also gives them a selfie stick, timer, lapse options, tripod integration, etc. etc.

Hardly worth a neg because you don't want to use it, the price is discounted and a valid deal.

          • @corbz: None of those points of difference are benefits over software though, all decent camera phones have or have cheap/free apps that offer time lapse options etc.

            1) You can clip your phone onto a tripod without a $200 worth of landfill that requires additional power and time and makes the recording device less compact thus less useful.

            2) The device doesn't talk to the recording device so it doesn't stabilise as well as software that provides data for the specific purpose of stabilisation, so it's statistically worse.

            3) It doesn't stabilise all all axis, especially the one that is the most jarring.

            4) A selfie stick isn't/shouldn't be $200 lol

But hey, you (everyone) can spend (waste) your money on anything you like. I'm not selling you anything, I'm just offering detailed advice as an alternative with detailed information as to why I've made my recommendation.

The only stupidity here is begging someone comment that provided useful information that won't be seen by anyone who wants to make an informed choice.

What this difference over the previous model? They just kept churning out new model every year…
