Maybe, but I think prices will keep dropping in the mean time, its win-win for consumers either way.
Anyone on Sata 2/3 will notice huge jumps in speed over HDDs.Pity they don't speed up PS3's or I might consider it.
I heard they bump up the speed on menus etc? I read somewhere it helps with typing messages
My crucial M4 256GB (from Amazon) makes my boot menu to windows user login 14 seconds in win 7. It's so nice. My sata 3 hdd was around a minute on a clean install.

Look through these optimisation guides and see if you can that down from 14 to 7 seconds :)

The major SSD players (Intel, Crucial etc) are triggering a price war to force the smaller players out of the market. Much like what Woolies and Coles does to supermarkets and petrol stations in oz.
I wouldn't expect there to be a new model any time soon. They've hit the limit of what SATA3 can do. Without the next SATA standard(?) any new models will be limited in gains (unless you go a PCIe solution). So aside from speed, the only other thing they can improve on is reliability and warranty. All are aspects that Crucial and Intel have covered.
Yep wait for the model with thunderbolt connection out http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/thunderbolt-performance-…
It's been this price since a short while after Amazon dropped their price to $399… still not as good as the $350 + post it was going for temporarily at Amazon though, hopefully it gets down to that low again soon.
Wow, I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed for that. I've just ordered some RAM from Amazon but they don't ship this SSD to Aust. been looking for somewhere to order this..
Anyone with a crystal ball can tell me when is it going to $350 again? ^_^
I do. It will happen the day after you buy one.
AKA Murphy's Law.
Do Crucial accept warranty claims from outside of America?
The warranty section is titled:
CRUCIAL TECHNOLOGY TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE
NORTH, CENTRAL, AND SOUTH AMERICAThere is no Australian Crucial RMA centre.
IF your SSD fails, apparently you need to request an RMA number by contacting them for them to arrange the RMA procedures.
That applies even if the Crucial drive was purchased locally in Australia. Sucks huh…
What do you mean price drop? It is always this price on Amazon. They just don't ship to Australia.
It's the cheapest avaliable to australia (without 3rd party mail forwarders)
This is not true. I don't know why people are negging my comment. You can buy it from bhphotovideo.com and ship to Australia for USD $422.46 = $389 + $33.46.
bhphotovideo.com Nice find whish I knew about them last night…. Oh well still better than local prices.
My comment was more about there was a price drop from the orignal post
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71612Well you mentioned it was "always this price at Amazon" which is an irrelevant comment to justify a neg, since Amazon doesn't ship them to AU.
What chukkii said still applies, because this bhphoto thing you didn't mention originally when you negged. That was not properly justified, and now your reason for negging is because BHP is selling it for a couple of dollars less…
That should explain why your comment was negged.
At least I know if I buy directly from Crucial, when I need to do RMA they won't give me the run around like a middle man would.
Don't buy for your MacBook Pro unless you like beach-balling. Also take the benchmarks with a pinch of salt; the latest firmware (which has been out a few months) halves all prior figures.
Care to expand on both those comments? Does the M4 give the rainbow wheel of death when others SSDs don't? Why would Crucial release firmware that halves the drives performance?
I just got an email from them saying there was going to be a delay….
Thank you for your recent order. We regret that due to increased demand for the product you selected, we do not have sufficient inventory to fill your order at this time. Your order is currently on hold, but should ship within 7 to 10 business days.
Might have to wait a whole extra 10 days I think I can do that to save about $250 from buying it local :-)
How does this compare?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768810-REG/Crucial_Tec…$413.45 delivered to Australia. Also includes data transfer cable and software.
I don't understand why they have the same drive
here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/874566-REG/Crucial_Tec…
and here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768804-REG/Crucial_Tec…
but have two different prices?
They are two different drives … notice that the model number differs in the last digit … one is a SSD1 and the other is an SSD2.
What's the difference? About 1.5mm thickness … one is designed for ultrabooks and the other for a standard 2.5in form factor.
Thanks for the explaination
Ta that was confusing me a little.

Here's the forum that states the difference…
I know that I am being cheap, but please drop even lower! xP
Does anyone sense a new model coming out soon? I mean it's a great price! But isn't it about time Crucial came up with a newer product?
(Not saying wait for the new one, just wondering where the world of SSD is going)
