AcePlayer was just updated and I note it is now free again for a limited time.

Previously very popular on OzBargain .. and a favourite app of mine now.

Guide to setting up samba

right click the folder you want to share, go to share > share with specific people…
add the user you want to share the folder …

open aceplayer,

host: your pc ip/share_directory (e.g. 192.x.x.x/movies)
port: leave default
user: user you allowed to access the share folder
password: whatever the password is for that user

      sorry that was copied from the old post… they do say MusicX is free but I can't find it in my search. Interesting as it seems MusicX is AcePlayer plus a LED flashlight app. Odd combo. I get the feeling these guys made an awesome app now they are stuck trying to create 'something' else to sell, with all thier other apps seemingly to be derivatives of the main AcePlayer App.

    Another good free option (always free) i stumbled on yesterday is:
    '8playerlight' http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/8player-lite/id383221354?mt=8

    Cant seem to find any limitation to the app even though it's titled 'lite' and there is a paid alternative which is a little confusing. Although ace player seems to be a little quicker scanning and opening files, just slightly.

    I must say this is a really good app when it comes to play your flac music files. I've got HD quality (3200kbps/96khz) flac files that play flawlessly with this app. My dedicated mp3 player (Cowon J3) can't even play that file!….

    Air Player is also a good alternative….both lite and full. runs beautifully on Apple TV too.
