PSA this is product marketed as a STAX/Audeze product but built entirely with plastic and is bluetooth wireless. It is made by Edifier and from the shape it seems like the design is based on one of their older bluetooth headphone models. These https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-Bluetooth-Headphones-Over-Ear…
After reading through the page this is a bit of a what the heck product in my opinion.
I thought about posting this in forums but I think it will get more input and exposure as a deal.
Posting this deal to start some discussions and help inform others about the product. Seems like there is a common issue written in reviews already that say after awhile of use the entire headphone starts to make creaking plastic sounds if you move even a little bit while wearing them thanks to it's all plastic build. Some of these reviews say this creaking plastic not something they expected from a pair of $600 headphones.
I am really confused at this product. First of all I looked up STAX headphones and they make expensive Electrostatic headphones not Planar magnetic and the marketing for the Spirit S3 mentions Audeze multiple times which is another headphones maker. Confused.
STAX makes really expensive premium headphones, but they slapped STAX on the name of the S3 and made it an all plastic build bluetooth headphones?? What the heck?
Also something weird about the headphones is they don't have ANC which I think would have made it an actual competitor to other premium ANC headphones. It also has a feature called "Snapdragon Sound" which doesn't have any explanation on what it is and what it works with. I think it's like a new version of LDAC so high quality bluetooth audio but I am not sure.
So what do you guys think? Can anyone share any other info and feedback they have learnt about these weird expensive headphones?
Personally I think if they were going to put STAX on it and have it be planar magnetic, it would have been better off as a $480 to $600 pair of wired headphones with more premium quality using mostly metal and leather etc. Then maybe it would make more sense.
STAX Japan died twice. Edifier owned it since 2012. According to the introduction of this video review of the STAX S3 HP, STAX no longer makes its own products.
