If you want to buy a robot vacuum that has a terrible app, constantly loses its map, adds phantom walls or open areas that can't be removed buy an Ecovacs.

I wish reviews focused on how absolute shit some of these products are to live with long term. I absolutely hate my Deebot T9+

    • Thanks for the info. Was contemplating buying it. Will look for next version.

@squiddles88 hates the Deebot T9+. This is a Deeboot X1 Omni, completely different. I know someone who is happy with theirs.
I am just posting the deal as I came across it during my discoveries, that's it.

Same mapping technology, same app. Same Ecovacs garbage.

          All of them are shit.

I watch it aimlessly hunt around the house looking for its dock, even though the app shows where it is, and where the dock is. It won't even go to the right room.

My old 1st gen Roborock vacuum that just had basic slam mapping worked significantly better.

          • @squiddles88: I run a T8+, and the way it determines where it is, the dock location etc seems to be based on the map, wifi strength from the router and direction of the router.

I had similar issues like you occasionally, but it was due to my router having an issue with its 2.4 GHz wifi failing (not even able to reliably connect if my phone was upstairs. It could not tell where it was, constantly recreated new maps as it could not match the saved ones and couldn't find its docking station.

I replaced the router with a new one, wifi signal was totally improved and the Deebot T8+ also found its location/map/dock reliably.

    • Is this a widespread issue? First time I’ve seen such a scathing review of Ecovacs (then again I don’t look at robovac reviews much).

The vacuum itself does its job fine, its the smarts behind it are so so so bad.

I spent the time to let the robot go around the house, build a map, label all the rooms, set up the exclusion zones. It works great for a week or two, then all of a sudden it thinks its in a different location than where it is, it adds on a bunch of new phantom rooms and gets completely lost. You can then decide to reset the map to the start (and then label all the rooms again, set up the excusion zones again), or delete the map and create a new one.

I had a sheet hanging over my dining room chairs, which made it think the room layout was different and that it must be in a completely different house. It created a whole new map and then proceeded to use that map for the next few weeks, skipping all of my exclusion zones and vacuum power preferences.

This is on a device that cost upwards of $1000+.

When it sits there right infront of the dock, just randomly smashing in to it and finally gives up and says "Please help. Unable to find dock" I have to fight back the urge to pick it up and frisbee it out the (profanity) window.

        • Good info. I'm glad I actually have the Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra instead. Looks like I'll buy the same for my parents in this case.

😬 Sounds like a huge waste of money.

Completely agree, I have had the T9+ since launch and it has had ALL the EXACT same issues, you think there would be a firmware/app update to fix this by now.
I logged a complaint directly to ecovacs and they said to "restore" the deleted map each time, (which usually doesn't work anyway, and doesn't resolve other issues you mentioned).
Also had the mop attachment fail on me, but after many pictures and videos sent to ecovacs, they eventually sent me a new one (took a few weeks though).

Can't wait till it finally breaks and I can justify buying, hopefully, an iRobot to my wife.

    • My X1 has been fine. I’m coming from the roborock and it’s been similar. I run it everyday without issue. Never gotten stuck or lost.

    • I can totally agree with this , the shitiest app ever and worst mapping , phantom walls etc , avoid at any cost in my opinion

  • I've had the N8 Pro and havent had any issues with the app once I had connection issues sorted out with my wifi network. I didnt have any issues at my previous residence on that wifi network so I suspect a lot of it will come down to your home network setup.

  • The fact it won't even cross a carpet when the mop attachment is on makes this a non-starter for me. It seems to defeat the purpose of a hybrid mop/vacuum. I'm curious to know how those who praise it handle this - do you just accept you'll constantly be attaching and re-attaching the mop attachment?

    • I don’t have the Omni but the x1 plus or whatever it’s called. I run the vacuum daily on a schedule. Once a week I run the mop. You need the wash the mop anyway so you have to take it off after regardless. Only takes a second to swap attachments.

      • +1

I thought the mop was self-washing? Isn't that the main selling point? Not being snarky, I am looking for a reason to get this one since the Roborock isn't near as discounted!

        • The Omni auto washes and dries the mop pad.

          • @vtml: Ah. Yes, I can see for the non-self washing versions , the swapping is needed anyway. But having to do that defeats the purpose of the omni , which is meant to keep you from having to fiddle with the machine.

        • Oh yeah forgot it self washes. Then yeah I can imagine the carpet avoidance would suck.
