TP-link tapo has been working great as a baby monitor, currently $52.77 and they have an extra 10% off when buying 2.

Also doubles as a standard CCTV after baby has grown up.

Bought the Cubo a few months ago (Prime Day iirc) and have been using for a while. Unless you have a huge house with the master away from the nursery or bub sleeps on another floor, the alerts/notifications are somewhat redundant as you're likely to hear the little one cry before you notice your phone buzzing. It's good as a monitoring device that you can use if you're outside or in the living room etc. and the white noise effects seem to work well but I'm not sure of the real value of the sleep analytics etc…they're either asleep or they're not. The attached thermometer appears inaccurate compared to a standalone one we purchased. YMMV, but I think these are a bit overpriced for what is essentially a white noise machine with remote camera viewing.

    • Yep agreed and they are now trying a Ultimate subscription model (also more in comment below)

Don't buy this. If you internet is out for any reason at all you won't get notifications. In their infinite wisdom they didn't include a "lan" mode. Internet out/down or router/AP out your baby could be crying all night and you'll never know.
Secondly, there is no real AI. It detects any loud noise and alerts you. Bird call outside… that's your baby crying…
What the Devs needed was some of their own AI. This product is almost dangerous for the first line above.

  • I bought this for a second child. My main reason for purchase was that I was curious about it. I would tend to agree that it is not needed. Our first child we used a cheap audio only monitor and that was sufficient.

Another friend mentioned that they wanted a dedicated video monitor. I may solve this by using another phone.

Regarding using a Tapo, the app is not really optimised for a baby monitor - you may find it OK. Good value though so it’s worth trying out first.

    Pros

    • Notifications work well
    • Camera quality is good
    • Video of events
      • A relative likes this feature as she can see what their child did during the night
    • Remote access
    • Automatic logging of sleeping/crying
    • Mounting options - Stand, cot attachment, travel

    Neutral

    • Accuracy of cover alerts
      • We haven’t had any issues, but a relative said they disabled this function as it wasn’t accurate

    Cons

    • Cost
    • Internet connection required
      • I have a reliable connection and am not concerned
    • Speaker is a bit harsh. I’ve only tried white noise, but prefer it from the Google Home
