half decent quality/pricing
If you buy during the boxing day sales you can get good quality and excellent (clearance) pricing, it's a good way to build up a bigger collection ready for an all in ational lampoon's Christmas style adventure
Sounds like I'll need to take a trip to bunnings.
Start small and grow it as boxing day sales start
Keep in mind that you used to be able to snag some ripper bargains for Christmas lights after Christmas, but it feels like Bunnings have got real smart with forecasting demand vs. supply and the last few years, you'll find nothing left on the 26th. At least that's what I've experienced after getting some decent deals long ago.
I seem to recall actually picking up some bargains on Christmas Eve a couple of years ago. Depending how much time you have to burn, wandering in in days leading up may be the way to go.
I have mostly used lights from Big W, the cheapest you can get. I haven’t had any issues with the low voltage or solar varieties but Bunnings does offer more higher quality and larger scale lights. I do have one set of lights from Bunnings and they are significantly brighter and feel more durable.
If you got the cash, Twinkly brand lights look freaking amazing for a 1-stop end-user centric highly customised animated christmas light. Starts from around $300 for a starter kit.
Probably quite a few years until the Chinese can rip this one off and bring to market an 'affordable' clone.
As much as I hate to say it, don’t leave it too late. They can run out of stock fairly quickly. We only do light on from 1dec and I often find it hard to get stuff when I find old ones from the stockpile aren’t playing ball
Wide question.
You can certainly pick up some cheap and cheerful lights at Bunnings.
