Reject shop has really good mattress
zzz Atelier Assured firm (also known as Super Firm Mattress with Extra Firm Pocket Spring) , often avail for $200+ for queen from their ebay store during past ebay sales.
Their official site selling at standard price to cater for full sales service/supports. Whilst their ebay store is their 'outlet' discounted price.

Just had a new mattress delivered this week (mine is medium) Special at the OMF {original mattress factory) and also Aussie made. Was $1930 on special for $1270 and so far so good but to be fair have only slept on it 2 nights! Was a pleasant experience to buy (no pressure) and could take our time trying them out. They advised us to only compare 3 on the day to avoid confusion and if we couldn't decide to come back and try same 3 or different 3.
If you want firm then you need the base to support the mattress properly as well, very much doubt you will be able to get both for 1k.
