Anyone with a Zzz Atelier 'Assured Firm'

I know the Zzz brand is very popular on here, but has anyone tried the 'assured firm' range?
I need a 'human' explanation of how it feels.

I'm looking for a bed that feels like a hotel bed.
You know, when you first plop down onto it, it's truly 'bouncy' and springy.
Your butt sinks in slightly, but the rest of you is very supported?

Obviously it's hard to describe beds; But am I safe in assuming most hotels would be using a 'Very Firm' mattress?

Opinions welcome! :)

  • I have had the Chiro Black and paid $345 King Size on eBay back in 2017
It wasn't too firm as it has a little softness (pillow cushion).
The ends of the mattress are not hard and sink when you sit on the edge

It was great for a single person but when two slept in it, it sagged considerable in one area. The center.
It's good for a cheapie and a (substitute) for a "real" mattress.

After 3 years, it sagged and I got a refund.
You will see many on ProductReview posters mentions sagging over a period of time..

    For $345 and receiving a refund after 3 years, I can't complain …..
However eventually complained about a sore back.

Don't waste your money on it.
Spend the money (reasonably) and get a mattress that will last and your back will love it

    • That black range is the one that goes on special here quite often yeah?

Ive acceped thats not the one for me. Mixed reviews, and possibly some fake ones leave me wondering.

Also im a bit suss on anything that needs a pIllow top to be comfortable.

The "assured firm" range just lists some features that cant be faked. It relies almost entirely on its extra thick spring design, so im keen to know that one specifically.

Thanks for the reply though :)

  • Disclaimer: Work in a bed shop

    takes off bedshop hat

You will not get a hotel bed feel from any of these beds, Koala,ZZZ etc
You get what you pay for and given hotels pay a LOT for their mattresses you are going to struggle to find that kind of quality feel in a bed in a box style mattress.
I am not against BIB at all, in fact had a koala myself for a long time (before my career change)

    • OK, this is good advoce. And although im probably going to try a Zzz if they go on special again, im willing to get an "I told ya so".

Therefore, what do hotels look for?

Whatever the, mantra range uses, is what I want.
They're certainly not pillowtops, and they're well built enough that a 110kg man literally jumping on the bed, doesn't fully compress the mattress (not that Id know…..achem).

While I believe you, that they pay "a lot" for their mattresses, I have a gut doubt that they're splashing out for 2k+ "bellissimo" range mattresses in $100 suites….

What do you think they value? And do you know who makes them? (I know mantra is a, bIG chain)

      Thanks for the reply!

      • Not sure about Mantra but i know that Sofitel Australia mattresses are made by Sleepmaker and Hilton is paying in excess of $2000 per mattress (and thats Wholesale)
I will ask our reps if they know who makes Mantra mattress.

oh and FYI you could also ask Mantra, they would usually be happy to tell/sell you their mattress

Thats not the worst idea in the world :D I could certainly email them. I bet they're bored at the moment :p

I have a sleepmaker right now,

Its a "sleepmaker - SportSupport Comfort".
Any idea what hardness this is? It predates companies 'needing' to be online, so theres zero info.

Its about 18cm thick, has several springs snapped in half, a collapsed edge (I sleep the other side), and is a confusing firmness. I feel like my butt sinks far too much, however I don't have back pain from it.

I do remember it was cheap; and I think from Amart.

          • @MasterScythe: Quite a few hotels now sell mattresses as they have found many guests are asking after their experiences at the hotel. If there’s a particular one you like, doesn’t hurt to ask as some mattresses are made specifically for a hotel brand.

          • @MasterScythe: "Comfort" is usually a plush when Sleepmaker sells it
Sport Support would be their coil mattress range, they are called Physio now i am pretty sure.

            • @jimbobaus: So, likely firm springs with a soft foam?

you've always been able to feel individual springs by hand, even from new.

My best ever sleep was on a cotton futon on a tatami floor in Japan. So I think I like a firm sleep….

    • Yep, infact some hotels SELL their mattresses

I stayed at the Langham in Melbourne twice and loved their beds so much I ended up buying a mattress through them. It's a Posturepedic and I believe they are custom designed for the hotel. Cost me about $3k but it's been worth it!

We bought a queen size chiro black atelier in late November 2019 (just under $250 delivered). Previous mattress was a Snooze bedmatch thing where each side was a different firmness according to their machine saying what each of us would need. Wouldn't recommend those - didn't like the cliff edge in the middle of the bed.
Anyway, the Atelier is every bit as comfortable as the previous one so far. Only 6 months in though. For $250 I'm quite happy with it. Though I too would like to know what the firm version is like. My back isn't great so the firmer the better. I think it's half the height of the chiro black though?

    • Thats OK my dustmite cover only fits 24cm anyway; my current sleepmaker is 18cm, so the 'assured firm' at 23cm sounds better already.

Im really tempted, because the only negative reviews seem to be "not firm enough", which for a 9/10 firmness mattress, suggests it probably has some give.

My best ever sleep was on a cotton futon on a tatami floor in Japan. So I think I like a firm sleep….

  • I bought a super firm mattress as a daybed. It is super firm as advertised. The bed doesn't conform to the shape of my body. I lie on it for a couple of hours each week so I am unable to confirm if the bed sinks after prolong usage.

    • From this company?

May I ask your height\weight (or a rough guideline if you're shy)?

      • Sent you a PM.

  • I recently bought 2
super firm and its really firm. I am 6 feet 4 inches with big built and heavy enough to ruin a other mattress in few months.

    • Do you still sink SLIGHTLY?
I guess I'm just concerned about ending up with a mattress that's as hard as a click-clack sofa\futon.
I want to feel like I'm sleeping ON the bed, but I still want my ass to level out :P

      • Yes. Due to a soft layer on the top.

        • Oh OK, so the assured firm range also has a soft layer? Thats nice.

For $200 or so, its sounding like a good buy.

The springs must have SOME compression also?

  • I've bought the super firm one.. and lets just say it felt like sleeping on hardwood floors for me haha. I had to return it!

    • Did they take return after you opened the mattress and unfolded it?

      • Lol surprisingly yes. I had to airtasker it to some sketchy warehouse with no signs

        • What reason did u gove for return?
I ordered from ebay and haf rst night sleep. You are right. Its like sleeping on hardwood floors. I am thinking to add some mattress topper or return it and buy aome ither mattress.

          • @JohnyEnglish: None, just not a good fit. The warehouse was still closed even when I just left the mattress (wrapped in plastic) outside their shutter doors.

The whole return process was sketchy af. No one answered their phones, no signs, no persons around at 11 on a Saturday.

But I did get a refund.

Apparently they only work afternoon on sat.

  • I just bought this assured firm mattress. The firmness is good but mattress thickness is hrdly 20-21cm. Which looks odd on my bed as my previous mattress was 36cm thick. Also i see 1-2 cm gap on all four sides.
I am looking to order a mattress topper of 5 or 8cm thick to increase thickness. Any suggestions?
