is it good for basic gaming like Fortnite and AOE 4

  • -2

If for gaming only I'd buy a steam deck or console instead(that is if we're comparing this towards a i7, 2080 series laptop) if for productivity like Photoshop, a bit of blender, a few games nothing special, or editing you'll suffice with this device and definitely good price.

    • +3

Well, 1650 is still much better than the van gouh igpu. Deck is more of a 40hz machine.

      • -3

I'd recommend you the Mac book Pro, because you seem like a 🥀

    • 720p LCD 60hz screen vs 15" FHD 144hz.. easily better enjoyment for Gaming

  • +2

Despite it being old, low specs etc etc, I reckon it's pretty impressive to see how far Laptops have come. Especially for a reasonable quality one. Wouldn't have been that long ago anything under $1k didn't really have a dedicated GPU.

Add a decent capacity SSD, high refresh rate display etc etc.

  • +1

Good price but personally would pay $200 more for newer cpu/gpu (ryzen 5000/ intel 11th gen with 3050/3060 graphics)…

    • +14

Here’s the thing. Where do you cut the line? Going 200$ more will get you a 3050/very seldom a low powered 3060 deal but nothing with a new cpu, going another $200 on top of that nets you one of the many deals with an updated cpu and frequent low powered 3060 deals, going another $200 on top of that nets you an even better cpu and high powered 3060 maybe good screen at that like the kraken, going another $200 on top of that nets you mux switch and better build quality and panel, going another $200 nets you a 3070…the cycle continues forever

If their budget is $800 better keep it at 800$ and not a bit more. So many people got a beefy rig just to read reddit and youtube and whats the point in that.

      • Definitely a valid point haha! I sometimes always want better only to realise id just be playing low intensity games or browsing youtube anyway. Games like fortnite and apex legends etc can run pretty decent on low settings.

      • +1

That being said, a 3050/3060 is a humongous upgrade if you're into gaming. Not only does that mean running post 2017 games, it also means that lower powered games will consume less battery.

I agree with the idea to not bother with trying to chase specs, but there's definitely benefits that comes with the extra 200

      • I think the Ryzen 4000 version has been on sale for about $100 more, which is a better option in more ways than one
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/723809

      • +1

I agree in the sense that the upgrades never end, It’s certainly good enough for Fortnite, CSGO, Valorant, LoL, Autochess, MMORPGs etc any kind of game made to capture as many players as possible.

However people purchasing this laptop with the intent to play certain AAA titles will surely be disappointed. There is some hope for older titles and titles released for last gen consoles though. I’d just stay away from high fidelity competitive fps titles such as Apex Legends, Warzone, The Division 2 (It’s fine for R6, PUBG etc)
I’d also recommend simply getting an AMD laptop and just use the igpu. It’s enough to run most of those games, is far lighter, more affordable and power efficient. Particularly if it’s a title where high refresh rate and frames isn’t required.

a bit expensive for a toaster

  • are there 1k laptops with 3050?

    • +2

Yes for example the JB HiFi Asus TUF A15 in this deal https://imgur.com/a/i9NWGwP

      • Is that a good configuration? With TCN gift cards the cost will come down to $893.

      • its already available for $1049, but it seems the processor is from 2020?

  • +8

As a uni student this is a bargain. Study during the day, play some Dota at night. Thanks OP.

I got this laptop on the last deal for $799 here > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702226

My laptop came with a single stick of 8GB of DDR4 SODIM at 3200Mhz CL22 running in single channel mode.
Got myself a stick on Crucial 8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 SODIMM from amazon for $37.00

  • Is this better than ryzen 5 mobile apu ?

    • +1

YES.. the NVIDIA GTX1650 4GB GDDR6 is over 200% faster then a ryzen 5 mobile apu

I can play Elden ring at 1080p 60FPS … the Ryzen 5 mobile APU would be lucky to get 30FPS

The Ryzen 5 CPU is faster :) but without a dedicated GPU its not going to run as fast as this Asus Tuf laptop

  • -2

Runs hot. Sounds loud. Asus Tuf are a bit of a joke to be honest.

    • +3

I've had mine now for over 6 months.. ZERO issues.. runs cool, runs quiet and is very fast/snappy.. works very well….

I think the higher up models with GTX3070/80 ext may run hot but thats the same with all high end laptops…this one is only using a GTX1650 that sips power.

ASUS have also fixed issues picked up by hardware unboxed when this model first came out… :)

      • +2

Take your real world experiences Out of here. I want hyperbole and rumours!!

      • +1

And we have had three all with the same issues. Heat and noise.

1650gtx no less. Glad you got one that doesn't sound like a jet engine.

      • My 505DT can not be used with the lid closed and running an external monitor. It will heat up and shut down.

It also will spin up the fans to full boar as soon as the GPU starts doing some actual work, but the noise is far from excessive.

I added an extra 8GB of ram and reaplced the wi-fi card in mine. Runs like a champ.

  • How much of a disadvantage is it that this is a 10th Gen i5 as opposed to 11th gen (which most of the other clearance deals have currently)? Is there a significant difference between the two in practical/user noticeable terms?

This laptop any good for Genshin impact?

  • -1

i got a used laptop on facebook marketplace, near brand new for 450, was a gaming hp omen laptop with 1560TI, just threw in an extra ssd and upgrade ram to 16gb. its only a year old.
it was like never used, no dirt in keyboard. and im using it as a spare for when i travel, as i have a more powerful laptop anyway

  • What’s the nits and sRGB of this screen? Personally I would wait for a 3060 minimum deal

    • 1650 is great for games that aren't demanding or if you're happy to dial settings down down

HL2 or Portal/Portal 2 will play at 300fps FullHD on 1650 no problem

also here's on colour space coverage: sRGB:62.5%

long story short: colour space no good

      • +1

In fairness a potato can run HL2….

        • very true. I happily played HL2 on built in graphics on a i3-7130u on an ancient Latitude laptop.

but on 1650 you can max it out and get 300 fps

as an owner of a 3070Ti laptop I would never touch anything where dedicated graphics start with 10 or 16, although I must admit 1660Ti is rather serviceable on FullHD. 3050 should be the new minimum, even though I would argue that one should st least get 3050Ti with above average wattage for better resale value down the road

  • Can this be charged via USB-C port?

  • How's the durability of the ASUS TUF series? Just bought one of these and but I immediately found out that the screen was cracked internally.

    • "How's the durability of the ASUS TUF"

Ignore the name.. it will break if you drop it :)… The TUF = components are a little bit better with a longer lifespan rating under excess heat but this is not a military grade product and can not be abused like a Dell Latitude that would probably also break if dropped

  • +2

The Ryzen 4600H hexa core variant of this F15 TUF is available at Bing Lee eBay - $747 with code SNSNOV
Wait until they refresh the delivery and store stock as it looks to be limited

  • If you want to plug it into a TV… what's the highest resolution?
