What Kind of Milk Do You Put in Your Coffee?

I used to use normal cow’s milk, but currently I’m using Bonsoy, recommended by a friend. The first time I tried bonsoy I thought it was nearly as good as cow’s milk. Now that my taste buds have adjusted to Bonsoy, cow’s milk tastes weird (sour).

Oat milk tastes ok but doesn’t froth well. The interesting thing about Bonsoy is that it doesn’t have any added oil, and despite being quite low in fat, it still produces excellent foam. Aldi’s soy milk is not bad as a cheap substitute for Bonsoy, and Vitasoy is OK. I’m not a fan of almond milk. Haven’t tried anything else.

Soy gets a bad rap (most likely driven by the dairy industry) for the alleged estrogen in it. But it's phytoestrogen (plant based) so isn't really utilised in the same way estrogen produced by mammalian glands would. So if you prefer Bonsoy but are worried about hormones - have a think about it. Some low level plant based structurally similar estrogens, versus a full set of constantly engorged breastfeeding cow hormones which produce estrogen (and are probaby given extra) along with a whole lot more.

Bonsoy is delicious, I can't find a better soy milk substitute for it.

    • Agreed, so much misinformation and the ignorant parroting each other about this. That, and the a few decades of brain washing by the dairy industry. One day it will phase out hopefully, an increasing amount of plant based milk choices every year.

Bonsoy is the best soy, when on special at Amazon etc.

For those who use full cream, anyone recommend any high fat options?

Pauls Farmhouse Gold Full Cream Milk has the highest I've seen (4.7g/100ml) and makes my Lattes so much nicer than regular full-fat.

But I'm chasing even more fat.

      Just add cream.

    • Add some double cream for more fat. If still not enough add butter

  • Milk comes from a gland, juice comes from a plant. Marketing.

  • 'Now that my taste buds have adjusted to Bonsoy'

unfortunately the special seaweed extract or something that gave Bonsoy its luxurious mouth-feel has been replaced by tapioca syrup and job's tears (like barley) - https://spiralfoods.com.au/product/bonsoy-soy-milk/

apparently, a 2010 thyroid scare about the kombu seaweed - 'the Bonsoy milk with added kombu was found to be the only product with excessively high levels of iodine. This product was also recalled in the UK, Ireland, Singapore and Hong Kong.' - https://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/safety/recalls/bon…

Bonsoy before that was my favourite - now it no longer tasted good to me - so I stopped buying it since.

  • Vitasoy Oat Milk unsweetened for the win, any bit of Full cream and I will poo myself. $2.90 on Amazon with S+S for $2.60 a pop or so.

  • I went from 2% fat Paul’s milk. Then after having so good soy milk, taste better.
But then soy milk doesn’t last long. I found Australian Norco milk full cream taste the best. I drink Nespresso.

  • Soy milk! I had almond milk for nearly a year, but go tired of it. Tried rice milk, didn't like it.

I don't have fancy tastes buds (not a foodie), so brand is irrelevant to me.

I avoid full cream milk simply because it is not great for me :(

  • Bonsoy and OMG Barista Oat Milk.. cant find many other milk alternative wothout seed oils. OMG uses olive oil, but Bonsoy is still better in terms of tastes. Love the nutiness combo in my coffee!

  • dissapointed not to see "Malk" as an option

No option for fancy cow milk? Unhomogenized specifically - tastes like milk used to/ought to….
