[SUBS, PC] Dune Spice Wars Added to PC Gamepass @ Xbox

230

Been wanting to play this rts game for a while and following the announcement few weeks ago that it will be added to pc gamepass, it was added yesterday. Has mostly positive reviews on steam. Enjoy!

A review video and beginner's guide

About this game from description…

A 4X real-time strategy game from the developers of the critically acclaimed Northgard. Set in Frank Herbert’s groundbreaking Dune universe, you must lead your faction and battle for control and dominance over the harsh desert planet of Arrakis.

Spice is the most valuable resource in the universe. The spice extends life, expands consciousness, and makes interstellar travel possible. Found only on Arrakis, it is sought by the most influential forces in the universe. Play as one of several factions, including House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino, the Smugglers, and the native Fremen, and compete for power over Dune and the spice.

Scan the landscape for wormsign or risk losing your troops and spice harvesters to titanic sandworms who will burst through the dunes to swallow and devour them whole. Crush your opponents in combat, best them through political intrigue, and undermine them with your network of illusive spies.

Need to look into gamepass, I don't have an Xbox but I have a PC with a 2070 super so still think it has a year or so to go

Search for earlier posts in ozb to get a 30-35 month gp ultimate subscription for about $70-80 through eneba gift cards.

Mate, you're a legend. I just crawled out of the rabbit hole you sent me down with 3 years of Game Pass. Cheers!

Hi mgexiled, did you purchase use the turkey 'MTCgame' method or something else? Also looking to get 3 years of gamepass but unfortunately these deals seem to have died.

  • Looks pretty similar to the Emperor dune game from 2001… anyone played both & can confirm?

    • it is from the same dune series. i did play dune 2000 on ps1 😅. The gameplay for both is slower paced than that of a other rts games.

      • Yeah, I replayed Dune 2 a few years ago using the Dune Legacy upgrades… actually quite a good game with modern res/controls.

    • This game is not similar to that. This one is closer to Stallaris or CIV. It's great fun, I highly recommend it. You can smash out a game in about 2 hours total.

  • when selecting the game on the xbox app, still pops up with a sad face emoji tho, cant download

    • Try a bit later at a different time perhaps. Xbox pc app is simply the worst ever gaming software manager I have ever used. Took me several hours to download the game which is just 3.5GB in size.

this is a preview Game.. the classic Dune game was simpler to play.. this seems Civillation + RTS.

    • they advertise it as preview because they are making adjustments to final gameplay through community feedback and balancing. Other than that the game has no issues. Yes its got more moving parts than a traditional rts or 4x game but the combination makes it very interesting. ymmv ✌️

  • For anyone on the fence about this, I can highly recommend it. It's a bit overwhelming in the first 5 mins because there isn't a tutorial explaining all the mechanics, but it's reasonably intuitive. There's an emphasis on strategic economic decisions, politics and espionage over military tactical decisions. There's even a stock market. In my campaign, I played as the Atreides and made it my goal to strangle Harkonenn by becoming so economically big that all their raids were eventually meaningless.

    • Great! Been exploring as Atreids focussing on economic expansion. Absolutely amazing. It’s bit complex to learn all the game mechanics without a full on tutorial but you’ll learn these as you play.
