Techy types should be aware that 5G Home Broadband uses CG-NAT. Carrier-grade NAT (Network Address Translation) is a type of network that assigns services with a private IP address, instead of a dynamic public IP address. Our network will then translate that private address into a public address. This means that the following items (which depend on internal NAT) will not work on 5G Home Broadband:
*Port forwarding
*Hosting web, email or file servers internally
*Smart Home systems (e.g. accessing security camera footage remotely, home automation and printers)
*Remote Access (i.e. accessing your home computer or devices from another location)

Carrier-Grade NAT can give you a strict NAT with some online games.

Modem non-return fee will apply if service is cancelled within 36 mths of first connecting to 5G Home Broadband or if your order is withdrawn by us, and the modem is not returned.

The non-return fee is calculated as $17 multiplied by months remaining in the first 36 months. For example, if you leave after 24 months you would pay $17 x 12 (the number of remaining months), a total of $204.

“No lock-in” could be misleading here?

Seems like you’ll get charged if you cancel before your 3 years are up, OR if they withdraw your order and you don’t return the modem?

    • If you have your own 5G modem then “no lock-in” is not misleading.

maybe you can just return their modem ?

      • Yeah, they gives couple of days to return the modem, I tested their 5g and didn't work well for me.

    • Stay away from iiNet if you can.

There service is now terrible. Way worse than Telstra or TPG, who now own them.

  • Owned by TPG. Might as well just go with TPG.

    • TPG doesn't provide access to Fetch TV either through their plans. :(

      • You can buy Fetch without going through an ISP. In fact you're arguably better off doing it that way.

TPG owns Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, AAPT, Internode, Lebara and felix.

        Covid

        • -7

          yes one aspect of it..

        • ? COVID is triggered by 5G?

          • +2

@wtfnodeal: Some people here believe that.

            • @jv: Yup. There was the joke that, after my Vaccination, my 5G reception improved enormously.

I think it was just the melange of nutcase views these people had just got rolled into one steaming pile of ordure.

Does anyone have 5G Home Broadband experience? How does it compare with the normal NBN?

    • +3

Depend how closer you are to the 5G tower. I went back to NBN after few days.

      • I am not gonna try my luck then. Thanks for the info.

    • I sit now on Telstras 5G broadband, gets about 250-300 down and 25 up, but because telstras netgear 5g modem faulty and terreble Telstra's customer service wasn't able to get new, use now old telstra smart moden v.2 with 4g backup, just insert 5g sim card, get 110-150 down and 35-50 up.
Decided to stay on this 4g rather than pay $600 for new 5g modem.

  • Can you still Have a landline with 5g internet?

  • is there any reason to go 5g if you have FTTP at home???

Edit: Meh, its only up to 100mpbs

  • How about just having a normal price ffs

  • Unlimited data?

This is answered in the Critical Information Summary.

  • hands up who can get this 5g deal, if none, call it dud….
