I'm told that somewhat ironically, 'sample pots' of paint usually do not actually contain an actual sample of the company's paint. Instead, they contain something analogous that is designed only to enable you to 'sample' the colour you are interested in; mixed in some other sort of medium. Can anyone who knows about such things (like a professional painter maybe) clarify whether this is true or not?
The sample pots sold at bunnings at least are just smaller pots of the paint sold on shelves.
That's ridiculous. The whole reason for sample pots is so you can paint a larger area (say, a single wall, or a single cabinet) and see exactly how the paint looks once it's dry, with your chosen method of application.
Rolling will look different to brushing will look different to spraying. Having a whole different analogous medium would be such an obscene waste of resources when the paint shop can simply mix up some actual paint.
